I wasn't so sure about this outfit until Christopher told me the blocks of color reminded him of a Rothko painting. Then I was sold. And it seemed a fitting reference for today, when I'm meeting Amy at one of the Smithsonians, to remedy my dissertation/DC loneliness. Us workers-from-home have to stick together!
P.S. Thank you SO much to those of you who left comments yesterday with hair-suggestions. I devoured them and they were incredibly helpful! If you're looking for volume suggestions, the comments on yesterday's post are an encyclopedia of amazing suggestions.

I'm a bike-riding bookworm in DC trying to make better use of a sometimes-vanilla closet. You can read a little more about this blog

I love them shoes and that skirt is really cute. HAHA yeh you do look like Rothko painting :) x
Oh, wow. I would've never made that connection on my own -- but, yeah, you do look like a Rothko.
Love that cardi, it's so cute! :) really nice colours in your outfit.

Love this outfit—especially that cardigan. It's darling! And, like Rebecca, I never would have connected the dots on my own, but you definitely look like a Rothko. Nice catch, mister.
I just love Megan's designs...they are so flattering and easy to wear, but so cute! Love the sweater you've styled it with...very "girl next door" 1950s look! Darling.

I love this look! Have fun at the Smithsonian! I'm about an hour outside of DC but know the area well if you're ever feeling adventurous!

The Smithsonians are AMAZING! If you haven't been, National History and Natural History are really cool. I get lonely in DC, too, it's great that you get the chance to go out. Have fun!

This is such a cute look! I love all the colors. I was absolutely no help yesterday. I have curly hair that won't hold a curl. What the what? Anyway, I think I'll go back and read some of the comments and try my hand at "waves" as well!
How fun! I'd love to be at a Smithsonian today instead of cooped up working.
Can I just say you have the best collection of coats?
You look great! I do love the colours in the outfit and your shoes are pretty awesome :)
Perfect look for museum strolling.
Cute outfit! Glad to see you're fully embracing the use-more-color resolution :)
I love that skirt! I have a pair of blue/red polka dotted heels that have needed a skirt just like that for years. Unfortunately, I've been unable to find one :(
Do you really?! What do you do there? I'd be thrilled to get insider tips!
Ha I know! I feel a little 50's today all I need is a poodle skirt :)
I really love the Megan Nielsen skirt! You know, I am beginning to think that maybe Rothko was the king of color blocking...
So fun to wander around airplanes with you today, my dear! We will stick together, that's for sure--that's to the cure for a serious case of the lonelies!
PS...I may or may not be trolling Zappos right now in search of Danskos like yours...just saying...
@amy--ha, they are the most comfortable shoes ever! someone just told me they looked orthopedic :) but my feet are in such comfort heaven that i could overlook anything, i just lurve them.
Love Rothko! That Megan Nielsen skirt is quite enviable. It seems incredibly versatile. I know this is super random, but how do you keep such a tiny figure? Is it just genetics or do you work out, eat healthy, etc.?

@ani--yes, the skirt is awesome! as for the other question, i think it is 1/3 good genes, 1/3 trying to eat veggies and fruits, and 1/3 the way i dress that tries to flatter certain parts of myself.
So cute! Love the little buttons on that skirt : )
I absolutely adore this outfit, especially the detail on the cardi. It is very americana.
No More Sweatpants
Love the two colors together!
Oh *sigh* that is a wonderful color combination. :)
I love the Smithsonians! Which one did you go to?
Love the color combo! you look great :)
I like this color combo! The cardigan is very cute.
Make sure you spend HOURS...DAYS in the art museums! I love the Smithsonians.
Ah! That's my dream red skirt! Have been hunting for one like this for months. I love it paired with the sweet, sweet cardigan - the embroidery is delicious!
i looove the cut of that skirt! so cute!
This is just too precious. I love how often you wear dresses/skirts! Often, I feel like I'm getting strange looks for wearing dresses and skirts instead of boring slacks or jeans, and you inspire me to continue wearing them!
Love your blog! I frequently pin your outfits to Pinterest.
Your looks alaways are so effortlessly cute! I love the simple combo of shirt, cardi and skirt here! Lovely!
You are adorable! I especially loved your/Christopher's Rothko reference. Gotta love those Abstract Expressionists! xo
What a compliment. I wish someone would tell me my outfit looks like a Rothko painting! That skirt is so cute!
The colors looks great together! And what a great compliment from Christopher, not everyday does a girl get compared to amazing paintings ;)
