One of my blog-related new year's resolutions is to be a little more daring with color. I wear and love a lot of neutrals but it feels fun once in a while to mix brights, especially during the darker days of winter. Today I'm taking my brightly-dressed self to the coffee shop to prep my syllabus for classes next week (I'm teaching another online class, which I've talked a teeny bit about here) and to eavesdrop on various strangers' interesting conversations about the upcoming election at neighboring tables.

I'm a bike-riding bookworm in DC trying to make better use of a sometimes-vanilla closet. You can read a little more about this blog

I love these brights together! That crinkly skirt is so cute. I passed one up at Goodwill the other day because the zipper wasn't working. :(
What do you teach online?
These colours look so good together! Glad you're experimenting with colour cause it gives me tons of inspiration. Hope you have a good day at the coffee shop, eavesdropping and people watching are some of my favourite activities.
You dressed in a few of my favorite things (mustard and teal and leopard, oh my!) and i just noticed your coat! Is it by Tulle? Because if so, we have the same one! If not, they're ridiculously similar!!
What a gorgeous colour combination! Love your skirt! :)
Noted: do not buy wool tights from J. Crew. :) I love the idea of dressing brightly during gloomy weather, and I love your outfit!
love the mustard and the hunter green; happy syllabus week, I'm in the same boat!
You're so adorable!
Mustard and Green is one of my favorite color combos! Lookin good!
love it. these colors suit you really well!
Love that skirt! You look great in that color :)
wow i love this outfit! i also made the resolution to wear more colors ;-)

@rebecca--i'm just teaching a writing course. it's pretty much the same one i taught when i was at the university, but now i'm doing their pilot online program.
@talley--no, the coat is jcrew or jcrew factory i think (not totally sure, the tag is mangled). jeremy's sells overstocks/slightly-damaged clothes from retailers and designers, so i picked it up there a few years ago.
That's a great outfit for syllabus writing. I've been writing mine in my pjs...
Pretty! My own new year's resolution regarding my wardrobe is called "Project No More New Grey and Black Clothes For My Work Wardrobe", so this is a nice bit of inspiration.
@bettina--ha, it's a hard thing, isn't it? i'm probably gray's number 1 fan, it seems to end up even in my most colorful outfits
Haha people watching (and listening) is one of my favorite things! (guess that makes me super creepy...)
Very pretty skirt!

i did some awesome people watching there last week. a couple had just gotten engaged! and then spent the next 20 minutes trying to figure out how to tweet about it :)
I hope to be more brave with colors too! I decided to start off my new year with a whole bunch of brand new and very colorful scarves to incorporate into my wardrobe! :)

Love these bright colors together! :)
So cute! Good luck teaching your class and eavesdropping political conversations. love the skirt!
I love this colour combo! So pretty.
I'm wearing the same green and yellow today! And what a classic coat!

I really like the skirt. I want a similar one, a little shorter in kind of a dusty rose color, but they're just so difficult to find!
love this color combo! i am a huge fan of mustard right now, and i love the contrast in fabric textures, too.
OH I love this! The colors are fantastic together! Way to break out of the mold and try something new.

Oh gosh, I am so guilty of wearing too many neutrals and not enough brights. I tried, but just can't do it. It's like I'm being someone I'm not. But good for you for brightening things up because you look great! I will just have to get my bright colour fix through you :)
@sweet laundry--i know exactly what you mean! i am still a neutrals-girl at heart, i definitely feel at home in them :)
@chris--sorry to be late to this comment! no, i did not get the coat recently. it's probably about 5 years old. i know jeremey's still sells lots of great coats, especially starting around february
I love the green and yellow together, Tania!
