For a quick coffee run to Tryst (where you can find some of the best americanos outside Seattle) on Sunday morning, I went for wintery layers, corduroy, knits, and slightly-chilly ankles. My desire for a dose of coziness with my caffeine is unfortunately rooted in the onset of my yearly early-winter cold, which I spent the day trying to ward off with vitamin C, lemon water, and time on the couch working on my advisor's book index. Whenever I don't feel well, I start to miss being a kid and having my mama bring me toast with jam and peppermint tea, and read me A.A. Milne's poem "Sneezles" from Now We Are Six, which we reserved as a special treat for sick days. She also would feed me lots of vitamin C tablets, which remains a strange family placebo remedy for colds. Any magic cold-dispensing remedies in your family? (Not that the vitamin C isn't working, Mom, I'm sure I'll feel better any second now...)

i swear by zinc...cold-eeze makes great zinc lozanges but you could always just take zinc supplements. it will dry you up in 2-3 days!
for being sick you still look super cute! i love your hat, it's so adorable!

Boil cinnamon sticks and drink the water! It's disgusting (you can add a bit of cane sugar) but it really clears out your head.
I don't have any cold remedies, because I much rather like to barrel through a cold head-first. In other words, stay deep in denial "I'm not sick ... I'm not sick..."
My mom is a big advocate of zinc tablets. They're pretty effective, but only if you take them RIGHT away. If you have the sniffles for more than a day, you missed your window.
Hope you feel better!
You look super cozy and cute! A perfect outfit for a coffee run.

My mother's remedy for everything now is Airborne, she absolutely swears by it. The father in My big Fat Greek Wedding and Windex = My mother and her love of Airborne.
Loving the pastel pink sweater, and americanos are my go to drink!
I swear by Zinc too. I also think chicken noodle soup and naps are a necessity to recovery.
I hope you feel better soon - my family's solution for earl cold cures is lots of OJ and taking Nyquil even before you feel sick to make sure that you get the maximum amount of sleep.

zinc! that's genius, can't believe i didn't think of it. christopher always takes it when he's getting sick. i've got to get some.
@courtney--secretly i love nyquil; the only good part of being sick is getting to take it in the evening and feel so lovely and drowsy.
hot ginger water is the magic-remedy in our family - just a few slices of fresh ginger, boiling water and honey. Then wait for 15min and enjoy (it tastes really good!)
well perhaps you should also avoid "bare" ankles ;-) altough i love your outfit! xxx Anita
I don't have any home remedies to share. I just wanted to share the fact that I can't drink peppermint tea because it was my mom's remedy for a stomach bug. Once when I was in elementary school, I had a stomach bug. My mom brought me mint tea, I took a sniff of it, and I immediately had to throw up. I know they weren't connected (I was throwing up about once an hour, and it just happened to coincide), but it gave me an aversion to mint tea that I haven't been able to get over.
Cute, so need that hat!!

Cold Eeze. They really really do work! It doesn't eliminate the cold, but it definitely makes me feel better faster and the cold doesn't get super nasty.
Aw, hope you feel better! While I don't have any family remedies passed down, I now immediately start eating every piece of produce possible as soon as I feel even an inkling of the ickies coming on. I especially love making green smoothies (spinach with a bunch of fruit and flax), and any soup I can find.
Love this outfit. The muted colors seem so warm & cozy. My aunt (who is a nurse) told me to just take something ridiculous like 2000 miligrams of Vitamin C every 4 hours when I feel a cold coming on. So when that's the only cold remedy I have, with a little green tea + lemon. Hope you are feeling better, and got your tea and toast :)
Oh pretty!
Lovely greetings from Berlin.
Well... At least your hat is really cute!
@fashion flirt--yes, there is that! nothing like a cozy hat for a sick day.
@loren--sounds so much like my mom!! she basically overdoses me on vit. C anytime i seem remotely sick. she swears it works like a charm.
You look darling! I hope you're feeling much better now! XO
The light colors here are so cozy...and you actually might get to try some of my family's cold remedy today!
my family starts pounding the echinacea! my dad swears he hasn't had a cold in years because he takes them twice a day every time he starts to feel a little sick.
The colors in this outfit are genius! I've had my eye on those same cords from j.crew for months but I've held off on buying them because I wasn't sure what I would wear them with. They're sooo pretty with cream and mustard! I hope you feel better really soon. My counter-cold strategy always includes lots and lots of gatorade, water, and tea and sleep, plus a once daily bottle of Vitamin C Machine juice from Naked Juice.
Echinacea and zinc are good, but I can't take either of them anymore because they interfere with my meds! My husband swears by cinnamon tea, but I prefer black tea with honey and lemon. OJ is nice when tea is too hot to handle.
Oh yes. Seattle Starbucks does make excellent Americano's. Glad you found a replacement.

Hmm...I like vitamin c and zinc although I've tried a couple of the remedies on this list too,

Your outfit looks so comfy.
My remedy for colds is a green smoothie(usually spinach or kale + banana + apple or pear + cinnamon and lots of ginger). I have 1-2 a day and I always feel better. That, and lots of hot tea, water with lemon, and vitamin D.
I love that you look so cozy and wintry but you're all in light colors. Great juxtaposition!
I really like the soft colors of your outfit! Perfect for an early winter day!
I hope you feel better soon!

Ummm, I have this same sweater and I am not sick and you still look way more amazing in it than I do. NOT COOL, Tania. Not cool. ;)
i'm loving this!
diggin' the mix of corduroy and knits and the neutral color combo, hope you feel better soon!!
My sick day treat was a reading of Charlotte's Web. I still take out my old beaten up copy whenever I feel awful.
little family traditions for sick days are so sweet. i remember we'd lay in the office on a couch, eating saltines and flat ginger ale and watching Adventures in Wonderland, the tv show about Alice in Wonderland. loved it. being sick makes me so nostalgic :)
Cute!
i love how adorably comfortable you look in that outfit.
Drink lots and lots of liquids. That helps. :) Also: I know this might sound weird but one of my "favorite" things about being sick is being taken care of when I literally can't get up/take care of myself. It's like being a kid again and having an excuse to not be able to cook, clean, etc. It only lasts a day, but when it hits and I need it I feel warm and fuzzy knowing my husband helps and takes care of me :)
Love this color pallate on you!

Oh no! I just had my yearly cold too. Blech. Lots of sleep and whining did the trick for me, haha. I hope you feel better soon! If it's any consolation, you look gorgeous!!
I hope you feel better!!! I love the layers of neutral colors in this outfit - very cute :)
Dope outfit!
I like how everything matches (even the drink in your hand!)
Love how your hat add's a splash of color.
This look defines casual sunday.
