In my family, we celebrate both Christmas and Hannukah. Usually I miss Hannukah at home because it often falls well before Christmas, but this year I'll have spent all eight nights at home, which is a rare treat. I wore this on Christmas Eve (and the fifth night of Hannukah) but with all the candle-lighting, present-opening, game-playing, and eating, I've been pretty well occupied the past few days and am just getting around to posting it now. Hope you all had a wonderful past few days, no matter what you do or do not celebrate.
P.S. What are you wearing for New Year's Eve? Secretly, I really want a dress exactly like this but have had trouble finding it, so I might just go with a black dress and sparkly belt. Most of my closet is just right for a trip to farmer's market or library, but it seems a bit off kilter to wear a plaid button-up and pencil skirt to a club on NYE, so share your ideas and save me from my own vanilla-ness.

I'm not wearing this, since I will probably be at home with my child and in bed before 10, but it reminds me of your inspiration dress!

Love your red skirt! I've always wanted to wear a sequin dress for NYE...so I finally splurged this year and got one. We have an engagement party to go to...so hopefully I won't out-sparkle the bride to be. Oops :)

Always vintage for me on New Year's- you can wear something spangly, tacky and bold and it's perfectly fine!

You are cute as a button in this outfit! I love the coat and you wear high waisted skirts so well! My plans for NYE involve a small dinner party at home so I have no idea what I'm going to wear. But, if I were going out on the town I would definitely wear something sparkly, whether it's an entire dress or a sparkly belt. Whatever you wear I'm sure you will look great!

sounds like a good time with the family!
and that is a great dress - i hope you find it!

Girl, I love that hat! I've recently learned to (barely) knit ... .I have dreams of being able to make such hats. Awesome! :)

That's the skirt you sneak peaked on twitter? So cute! And it looks great on you.

Sparkly belts are always a good idea!

That sparkly dress is divine! I vote yes for that one, but in a pinch you can never go wrong with a black dress. This NYE I'll be wearing a lovely plum bridesmaid dress -- with pockets! -- and some sort of wedding up-do. My roommate is getting married and we'll be celebrating with champagne!

I have the same problem! My clothes are more office-appropriate than club-appropriate...tweed pencil skirts and white button-ups don't exactly say "night on the town."

What a cute, dressy, casual outfit. Love the boldness of the skirt color against the navy and super cute hat! You totally pull it off. Happy you had a great Christmaskuh!

There are some great ones on ASOS but they're expensive, and certainly not going to arrive from the UK in time...I'd go to thrift stores and see what you can find! The normally awkward 80s sequined dress can work great on a night like New Years!

I don't usually dress up for NYE, but I kind of wish I did. The coral and mustard colors look nice together.

That Sounds great! Lucky you, i couldn't only spend Four Nights at home....
Beautiful outfit and p.s. what concerns new year: i have exactly the same problem ;-)

A girl can never go wrong with stripes! Love the color of that skirt!

Ah, NYE...truth? I've grown to resent NYE in a way. There's always too much pressure to do something epic. I think I'll spend my evening having a nice meal with my love, followed by some kitty snuggles on the couch!

I love the hat and coat combo.

@onaquilt--eee, that sounds like so much fun! and you have the what-to-wear problem completely solved :) congrats to your roomie!

@santina--i hear you. a few years ago, i spent NYE at home sewing with my mom and drinking white russians.

@bridget--you are right; gotta find a sequin skirt or something!

This year, I have decided not to buy a New Year's Eve dress (a tradition of mine) - instead I'm just wearing all black, accompanied by a pair of ultra-fierce glitter pumps from Bebe.

I actually found a great silver sparkly sequined number, even though we're going to a white party. I think silver is close enough to white right?

Love the cozy look, and hooray for being at home with your family! I love the sequin dress, I too would love a NYE party dress like that one!!

Even if you can't find a sparkly dress, you can always find a sparkly top and pair it with a pencil skirt. That would be a fun way to spice up your wardrobe! Good luck!

Love your outfit! Totally inspired me for an outfit like that with a few things I have in my closet :) My boyfriend got me this dress http://pinterest.com/pin/80853755779775868/ for Christmas and I will be rocking it on Christmas Eve in Florida :)

Forever 21. It's complete sensory overload when you walk in, but you'll find sequins galore. Good luck!

NYE calls for sequins, and your dress is pretty much perfect - too bad you can't find it, or I'd be buying one too! :(

I'd say wear as much sparkle as you want, including makeup-wise! ;)

Kiley Kate said...

I love sparkle as much as the next girl, but the velvet and colored lace trends have caught my eye for NYE too.

The stripped top with the skirt is looking pretty much fine.

don't you have a gold sequin top? wear that with the bow skirt! or something. ha. i'm not good with outfits, but i agree that new years should be the night when you can wear something a little fancier than normal :)
