Shine On
works cited: UO skirt; j. crew sequin tank; cardigan from jeremy's in berkeley; target scarf and boots; hue sweater tights; thrifted belt

The day after Thanksgiving seems to be the marker of the beginning of the holiday season, so yesterday I broke out my festive-and-much-neglected sequin tank top which Jenna Lyons told me to buy last winter swearing by its versatility which I have yet to discover adequately. However, I did see a really cute girl a few months back wearing a sequin tank top with a similar-toned scarf and cardigan, and it seemed to mellow out the sequins a bit by blending them into a neutral color palette. I tried her trick yesterday and liked it, even if I ended up looking a bit like a brown bear preparing for a disco ball. The weather was gorgeous, so I rode my bike to Georgetown to meet Kelsey, Eric, and Megan for lunch and to do a little holiday shopping for family members. Then I lugged my sparkly self back up the hill for a quiet evening preparing for the madness of end-of-term grading, dissertation editing, and freelance work that awaits me in the next few weeks.

I think you did a great job mellowing out the sequins. It is a perfect pairing.

These colors are quite fetching on you! If you want to play around with this outfit, I think the top, sweater, and scarf would make a great outfit with jeans and boots as well. xo :)

This is a gorgeous outfit! I love it - I would never be brave enough to wear sequins on a "normal weekday" - or in fact at all, but you're encouraging me to at least try them for a festive occasion...

I think it would looked as good in this combination as it will look in jeans! the burgundy goes in my opinion perfectly with gold sequins, but I would never have dared to combine brown with it - but it looks really good on you! perhaps i should give my brown vest a try with my burgundy pants tomorrow ;-) xxx Anita

I love sequins! I say the brighter and more noticeable the better ( a trait I think I pick up from my mom.) I would never think to tone it down but I have to say I am quite fond of your look here.
Every time you write about your bike it makes me miss mine which is sitting in a lonely storage clear across the North Atlantic and then some. Keep riding!
Cheers,
Bre

I love this! I don't own a sequin tank, though I've tried them on and considered purchasing them a couple of times. They always feel scratchy against my skin and I just can never do it. Love it on you though.
