Just before Thanksgiving, freshly-relocated Carrie and I went to Unique Thrift, this crazy gigantic Wal-Mart sized thrift store in Virginia. I've been super-careful with my budget this fall but have been itching for a thrift store trip to spice up my winter closet a bit. Santa must have known I've been good this year, because I stumbled upon this Christian Dior striped sweater right away. It's quirky and in perfect condition and 3 dollars later and it was mine, all mine. Now that's what I call holiday magic.

I'm a bike-riding bookworm in DC trying to make better use of a sometimes-vanilla closet. You can read a little more about this blog

Also, love those oxfords, I have been dying for a pair, but just can't seem to find one that fits!
Wow! Lucky! Great look.

Holiday magic, for sure!
That's a lovely sweater and a lovely price. :)
And the skirt is very cute.
I LOVE Unique! We went there for the first time a few weeks ago, and I found these gems.
preethi

Amazing find! You know I love a good stripe, and this sweater suits you to a T. I was just thinking we'll have to make another trip out to Unique the next time I'm visiting my parents, and this just seals the deal - will you be around for the next major batch of holidays? :)
What a great find! Was this at the Falls Church location? I've been to a huge Salvation Army in Manassas but had never heard of this awesome place.
Sarah--yes, I believe it is (here's the info for it: http://www.yelp.com/biz/unique-thrift-store-falls-church). It is truly awesome.
Emily--I'm taking off on the 19th--when are you getting here? I'd love to hang out again (obviously).
sweet score! I live about a mile from Unique and I go every couple of weeks - I always call it the Thrift Wal-Mart! They can have great finds, but its almost overwhelming.
That sweater is amazing! I was hoping it was new so I could go buy one!
Oh, boo, I have a big deadline at work on the 20th so we're probably not heading down until the 22nd or 23rd. I've no idea how long we'll visit for, but I'd say maybe a week? Obviously I will just have to make another trip down sometime soon...
that sweater is beautiful! COngrats on the great find :)

oh, you lucky duck! and that's the perfect holiday outfit too. i love it :)
That is indeed a Christmas miracle! I have put myself on a shopping ban since my engagement to save up for the wedding, but when I hear stories like this, it makes me want to change my mind. ;-)
Your so cute! I love this holiday outfit. xo, rv

I love finding a designer find at a thrift store! Even if it's not actually "worth" much it's always a nice thrill.

aaaamazing find. i love that sweater and this outfit! it does so much with so few items. xo
So when this post popped up in my Google Reader, and all I could see was the top half of the first picture, I thought, "I don't care how much that sweater costs, and I don't care that I'm pregnant, I'm going to get me one." And then I found out that I CAN'T. Boo. It is adorable, and I lovelovelove this outfit.
Oh i want that sweater :D SO cute!
BTW LOVE your blog :D You now have a new reader :)
Love Love Unique!! It's about an hour and a half away but we go there as often as we are in the area. Usually the overprice (for a thrift store at least!) expensive items, great find!
What a find! And, to top it all off, the jumper's subtly seasonal too! A winner all round.

Great thrift find, lucky you! Btw, I saw these lobster earrings and I thought of you and your lobster love again. http://www.etsy.com/listing/85954624/i-love-lobster-earrings-with-free
I hate you more than a little bit. :)
Oh my gosh, what an amazing thrift!! I am in love with this outfit, you look so lovely :)
Wait, there are huge thrift stores in the USA? really? Why are these behind-the-moon-living-germans not having such a thing? I absolutely need to go on holiday to the states, as soon as possible ;-) besides that: cool sweater, and i love the combination of this a bit boyish shoes with this not to girlie-skirt! xxx Anita
I thrifted a pair of oxfords almost exactly like that awhile ago, and I can't find them anywhere now. Rats!
That sweater is an amazing find. Looks perfect on you :)

Bravo, madame! I've never been to Unique Thrift. I'll have to look into it.
Ah, I'm so jealous! I've yet to find a good thrift store near my teensy winsy town. But I shall live vicariously through you. Gorgeous sweater!
That sweater is a miracle.
Christian Dior?! what a huge score!
As a fellow cycling grad student, I have to say I love it! You must have the best thrift stores to find those kind of treasures though! I'm very jealous...

Love the outfit, especially the sweater. Would the fashion gods smite me if I said that the sweater (loosely) reminds me of an Old Navy sweater I have?
I have a very similar necklace to that, but mine is in a gunmetal color.
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE that sweater! NC State tailgate? Yes! My 4th of July birthday? Yes! Christmas? Yes! Whoop! Whoop!
shug in boots--hahaha, best comment ever!
flyingpurplehippo--no one would smite you, i bet people would be happy to know that something similar is available at old navy!
wow, what a great outfit and amazing luck!
I adore your sweater, so please don't read anything into this question:
Have you seen any ugly Christmas sweaters at Unique? I've been searching for over a month (2 ugly Christmas sweater parties this year!) and nothing! Am I going crazy? Do all the little old ladies get to them first???
:) Jen
Awesome find! Such a cute classic sweater...looks great!

I have been to that "crazy gigantic Wal-Mart sized thrift store in Virginia." It's awesome, right?
jen--hahah, this sweater is just one embroidered christmas tree away from being an ugly christmas sweater!
i did see ONE ugly xmas sweater at unique, but there was an overall devastating lack of ugly sweaters. don't they know that everybody wants one this time of year? i think maybe a grubby goodwill would be a better bet (perhaps they are less picky?) but i'm not entirely sure. i'll keep you posted if i see any...
what? i'm a devoted thrifter from alexandria, how do i not know about this thrift store??? where is it?
Unique is near where Gallows intersects with 29 and 50. The parking lot is a PAIN, and it is faaaar away. I can vouch for Christian Dior finds, although I've never found anything in my size....
so happy to see you're wearing it! you know, not that i thought you wouldn't, but happy to see it looks great on you. i'm down for more thrifting anytime! it was fun :)
Unique is actually a big chain of thrift stores and there are a bunch more in the DC area — all in Maryland. They're just as great as the Virginia location!
