Fording the River

works cited: secondhand sweater; thrifted skirt and belt; target boots; both bracelets gifts from friends

I found this maxi skirt on an expedition with Emily a few months ago and while I really like it, I've been a little nervous about how to pull it off. If I wear it at my waist, it's just a little short at the bottom, a length I fear makes it fall within the range of What I'd Wear for an Oregon Trail Pilgrimage or possibly Are You Visiting 19 Kids and Counting? So today I just tugged the skirt down to give it extra length, and just to mix things up (har har), belted at the waist. It seems fitting to celebrate a blog anniversary by wearing something I might have balked at a year or two ago (long skirt) with something that's been a staple in an embarrassingly huge number of outfits (belt). And speaking of celebrating, I'm just two fat portfolios away from a finishing a big stack of grading. Hip hip hooray!

Happy blogiversary! I love the maxi skirt and boots look for fall. And I have a very similar long navy dress that I would totally wear where I to meet the Duggar clan.

Congrats! And I love how this skirt looks unexpected and totally fresh on you (maybe because I'm not used to seeing you in things this length?). Very chic, yet totally unfussy.

I love that it's now cold enough to wear maxis and boots. It's my cold weather staple!

Your belt right there makes you look super skinny! Congrats on the killer new outfit!

This is really pretty. Great outfit to wear on your blog-iversary!
It looks great, perfect length, pretty with that red top, and the belt, which is the same for me, always a must.

I just got a long black flowy maxi skirt like this too and now I can't wait to debut it. xo

i especially like how you pushed up the sleeves to show at least a little skin, and the bracelets complete it. you look gorgeous, as always :)

Those two colors are perfect together. Thanks for inspiring me for my outfit today! I blogged about it and gave you credit. Check it out and let me know what you think!

The 19 Kids and Counting look runs more towards jeans or cargo skirts so I think you're on safe ground with sheer pleats.

You've managed to look remarkably un-Dr. Quinn in this skirt, and I respect and admire that! :) I love its flowly flowness and how you paired it with such simple things. I want to haz that skirt. You will share? :)

Yay, thrifted scores! I still haven't worn that sort of purpley-taupey one I found on the same trip, for many of the same reasons! I'm also a little hesitant to sport a maxi skirt at work, they've always seemed just a wee bit too casual and summery for the office. I may just have to try mine out with a sleek sweater like this though.

I'm all about a good sweater over a maxi skirt or dress. Very simple and cute!
