Paging 1998

Paging 1996

Paging 1996

Paging 1996
works cited: target dress and socks; j. crew belt, boots and sweater

As the weather turns, I've held out on wearing my coat by bundling up in wool sweaters and scarves. DC's fall weather is much more temperate than the midwest, and I've loved the slower pace of the leaves turning and the fact that I haven't yet had to wear tights. It also helps me continue my 90's-themed outfits--floral dresses, socks and boots, cargo jackets, big sweaters. Maybe it's just because I wore these things growing up, but I'd be thrilled if flannel, floral, and Doc Martens resurfaced for a second round in the style spotlight. Not to mention the great indie rock, a flood of coming-of-age comedies, low unemployment, independent bookstores in the pre-Amazon years. The only thing I'd leave behind are the too-short spaghetti strap tank tops I wore throughout 1998, shudder.

LOL - it's funny you mention the DC weather, today I walked outside this morning (granted it was 6 AM) and said - I will be wearing tights until the next season hits! Love the sock/boots match!

ha now that you mention it, the 90's weren't too bad after all. especially all of the perfect romantic comedies that came out in that period. flannel, floral, and good ol rom com's. i wouldn't mind if it all came back :)

Your outfit is great. So pretty. My favorite fall thing to wear is boots with socks. Always a good choice.

Ah yes the too short spaghetti strap tank tops, I still have one of those. Although it's only worn as a camasole now because I don't really want anyone seeing my belly button these days.

See also "Generation Catalano" www.slate.com/articles/life/culturebox/2011/10/generation_catalano_the_generation_stuck_between_gen_x_and_the_m.html

And I totally had a copycat outfit of Liv Tyler's from "Empire Records." Those Docs are still in an attic in Baltimore. I'm scared my dad will tell me to clear them out.

Oh my, you must have dressed WAY better than I did in 1998. I have lots of pictures of me and my roommates (it was my first year of college) wearing oversized wool sweaters, boot-cut jeans with hiking boots, and, well, flannel. But not cute flannel.

I just read that "Generation Catalano" article that M. posted. I love it--someone's finally writing about those of us stuck between Gen X and the Millenials!

Doc Martens!! I had the most amazing pair. My best friend was pissed at me for days because I copied her. (omg that's such a hilariously 8th grade fight.)

Love your cute outfits as always! I need some over-the-knee socks. They're so cute peeking out of boots!

I saw that dress multiple times on the rack at my local Target. And I hate myself now for never picking it up. The color and bold print is fabulous. I love how you dressed it down for fall with the cardigan and socks. Lovely!

I love the thigh socks with knee boots and short dress: but somehow the window for this sort of outfit never appears here! It's either too warm or too frickin' cold! Looks great though... P.S. Name-checked ya here: http://cakesandshakes.wordpress.com/2011/10/26/my-personal-blog-oscars/
