Today I really wish I were floating on an inner tube on a big sunny lake reading Julian Barnes's new novel and wearing a big floppy sunhat. Oh, and I wish I were blissfully free of all this work. Instead, I am looking like a grown up and sitting in front of two computers and two monitors (burn your eyes and make your synapses fire frenetically in half the time!) while I try to weed wordiness and the phrase "the ways in which" out of my own writing. Normally I try to keep this blog on the bright side of things, but the brightest I can muster today is the hope that this week zooms by quickly so that when it's over I can at least lie in the bathtub reading Julian Barnes's new novel...possibly even with a sunhat on.

I'm a bike-riding bookworm in DC trying to make better use of a sometimes-vanilla closet. You can read a little more about this blog

I love this outfit. :)
Good luck with accomplishing your wordy tasks this week!
Oh my goodness, that blouse is gorgeous! Structured, but also rich in texture and color; it looks so soft! xo
I understand you, really! Just go on, and time will pass and you'll be finished and ready to relax :) And maybe you're not wearing a floppy hat, but that blouse is amazing!
I know how you feel - I just got back from vacation and would give anything to have a few recovery days. Alas, the real world awaits.
Stupid real world.
By the way, I love your outfit!

I know things are busy, looking especially cute should brighten your day! PS - I laughed that you feel you look like a lake...I felt like I looked like grass (green + brown) yesterday, lol.
Keep pushing onward!

I love your blouse! :)
On the bright side: fab outfit. Love the way the belt works on this one. I know how you feel about all of the work, but you make dissertating look fashionable.
well, at least you look adorbs while working yourself into the ground. cheers to a quick week!
The color of that blouse. Wow!!
Well at least you'll look super cute while working :) I love this blouse and skirt combination. Good luck with everything you need to accomplish!!
Those colors look fabulous on you! And the picture you painted in my mind looks wonderful too. Especially since the weatherman said to expect snow tonight..
two words: happy hour :)
The color of that skirt is so pretty and you do have a nice, calm, lake color scheme to your outfit!
i love those flats..and sitting on an inner tube sounds incredibly amazing right now. maybe a bubble bath is the next best thing!!

This look is so cute, I'm a big fan of the color combo.
Fall has me feeling overwhelmed too, here's to getting through the work week and having some time to yourself on the weekend.
I love your high waisted skirt - so cute! I wish it were warm enough to still go bare-legged where I live. I'm a newer follower.
love your skirt, it looks gorgeous!

Well even if the work is tedious you look fabulous. Seriously. I love the texture of the skirt with the silky appearance of your top. Love your blog.
I am with you - I'm all for positive thinking but this week can be over now, thank you very much. I think I will reward myself with The Sense of An Ending when (or if) I make it to Friday and I'll bury myself in the pages until Monday. I hope you're able to do the same - and yes, please wear your sunhat. It's only right :)
I love your new flats!
Let the waters calm you, woman! That's what I try to tell myself when I'm stressed out...except normally I'm not next to the water or wearing the colors of, so maybe I'm full of crap? Probs.
I'm so glad that you like the skirt and that it fits(ish)! You l ook so great in it, especially w the blue top. Fantastic color scheme. It's so fun to put together packages and then send them on to people who I know will be excited to get them. Yipee, mail!
Hope the work doesn't kill you. I'm buried in work, too, and would throw myself off a cliff if there were any to be had in Chicago. Thankfully (or alas?) there aren't. :)
How DO you weed out the phrase "the ways in which??" Because the ways in which I use that phrase in my own writing occur far too often.
Two monitors - oh goodness! What do you do for a living? And you are right, this week isn't passing quick enough. I no longer suffer the mundane work life of corporate America, but staying home with a toddler really isn't fun in the sun either. Hey, at least you've got a cute outfit on :0) Cheers!

That is a great skirt! You look great in a high waist and belt--makes your legs look longer (that's my trick since I'm only 5'4").
i've got a presentation at work today...eek! so i am feeling how you are...wishing i was on vacation rather than a responsible grown up. good luck to you!
yuck being a grown up. but you look beautiful. those colors go perfectly together :)
amazing! God bless you more!:)
