Get Low

thurs

thurs
works cited: thrifted pleated skirt, bag, and belt; vintage ring (so cool, next time I'll get a close-up); UO flats; gap denim button-up

When I first thrifted this skirt, it felt very long compared to a lot of the skirts in my closet and I compensated for the loss of leg by wearing it with super-tall heels. Eventually, I've gotten accustomed to (and fond of) longer skirts, and I've happily worn them with flat shoes and without anxiety about looking shorter. Although I like a pair of wedges now and then, I walk so much that I truly prefer the comfort of flats with almost any outfit and this morning there was no doubt that flats would look just fine with a longer skirt. Plus the two stand up to windy days in the city and cover one's bum on the train--can't say "no" to pluses like those.

I just LOVE this skirt

I actually love the length of this skirt - I feel like it is the mid calf length that makes legs look stumpy!

What a brilliantly versatile skirt! Xo

It's juuuust long enough to cover your kneecaps. Perfect length for a little romantic swaying. You're so adept in putting together lovely, simple, put-together looks. Envious!

You have the best luck thrifting. Do you ever have to alter anything to fit, or do you just find the magic pieces that already work for you?

You're such a remix master! I love all the ways you've worn this skirt!

paige, actually my luck is really hit or miss! and i have to alter at least half of what i find (i should do some before and after pictures). this skirt, for instance, was enormous (a size large) and it hung off my hips and was too long. instead of hemming it (nigh impossible for an amateur seamstress and a skirt with pleats) i just took it in at the waist and sewed all the way down the skirt to make it smaller and thus fit at my waist and thus shorter. good thrifting is a lot about seeing potential in garments that you can alter easily, i think. i haven't found a new seamstress in DC but back in illinois i had a great one who helped me alter lots of garments i was afraid to mess with myself. so i'm not actually just lucky in finding things--i often have to mess with imperfect items to make them work :)

love it. this skirt is so classy, but with the denim shirt, it's good for just a day around town. cute and simple: just your style :)

This skirt is adorable.
I totally concur on Ki's mid-calf length argument. If it hits just at the knee like yours, it's perfect, but any longer than that looks stumpy on me. I'm really scared of this new long skirt fashion actually! Please can we go back to above or at-the-knee length?

It is hard to look both casual and classy, but you are certainly both today! I love the length of the skirt - and so easy to dress up or down!

I love the chambray shirt with that skirt. I may have to steal this idea sometime.

I love the way the skirt looks with flats, and that you conveniently put the remixed looks right at the bottom of the post! Reading that you frequently have to alter things makes me feel much better about my thrifting luck! :)

I love this outfit. The skirt makes it perfect and pleasantly surprised that it's thrifted. In my hunts through various thrift stores, I have been looking for those longer skirts, too. Don't they just feel so pretty?

The flats look super good with that skirt. I would do the same though cause it's so long, I'd think that I'd look short, but this shows me that it'll look good anyway :D

I can't wait to hit the thrift shop again. I was only there for an hour and I got so many pieces already. :)

Looks great to me - I like how you wear it up higher on the waist and belted, will have to remember that as I have a similar skirt I don't wear, but for similar reasons : ) P.S. How's the weather where you are? We are nearly at 'tights wearing' stage here, you are brave in your bare legs!
