Turns out I am feeling a little under the weather, so here is an outfit from last weekend, when Christopher and I went to Baltimore to see my grandparents, who were in town for the weekend. Christopher would be horrified to know that I greatly admired much of the style I saw among my grandparents' friends--piles of jewelry, big plaids, head-to-toe monochrome. I love that so many vintage styles are back in stores (and of course, in thrift stores on the cheap); all the old ladies on the street look especially stylish these days.

I'm a bike-riding bookworm in DC trying to make better use of a sometimes-vanilla closet. You can read a little more about this blog

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well - I hope things turn around too. Elderly ladies have rocking style - I know that sounds ridiculous but I totally think it's true.

Love this look. And I'm also constantly finding myself admiring the classic styles of senior women on the bus, at the grocery store, etc.

I hope you're feeling better. this outfit is super cute, specially the necklace.
Aww get well soon! Also, love how those jeans aren't ridiculously low like most skinnies tend to be!
This outfit is all sorts of fun! I have been enjoying wearing some of my grandmother's old jewelry, and it makes me now think I should NEVER throw anything away, because MY granddaughters may be able to wear it in about 50 years.
Feel better soon!!
I hope you feel better soon!!! I love this outfit. You look so cute :)
I hope you get better. And I completely agree with you. Vintage styles never get old. I love how you were able to make your outfit look both elegant and simple. I love it! :)

Perfect for grandparent visiting! Now go drink some tea...

I'm having the cold + allergy thing as well. I couldn't decide which one it was but I think they've entered a symbiotic relationship and are feeding off each other in my sinuses. Have you tried a netti pot?
I think I've mentioned before that I, too, love old lady style: clunky two-inch heel vintage shoes, some gaudy costume jewelry, and Mediterranean floral print kerchiefs! I try to incorporate these as much as possible now, but know the direction I'm headed into for old age!
This is such a great outfit! Ugh, I want (scratch that), I need red skinnies!!

M--yes, it is symbiotic! they are just making each other worse; it's awful. i've never tried a netipot, but i've heard wonderful things! have you? do they work for you?
You look particularly lovely in these pictures. Is your hair darker?
I hope you feel better! I adore all different styles as well and nothing is greater than spotting a classy, fun, stylish older woman. I love your trench and red pants.
thank you, pamela! my hair was kind of dirty that day, which might be why it looks a bit darker (that or it actually is getting darker as i get older!)
Seriously, yay for gramma chic being back "in"! And I seriously love this sleek, simple, classy look. So lovely!
love the mix of gold and silver!!
Feel better! :(
I love this look on you!
i'm a lover of old lady looks, too!
where in baltimore did you visit? i'm originally from there, and i think the look up there is pretty different than here in DC.
Do you read Advanced Style?? It's a fabulous style blog about old people! They're mostly chic ladies in Manhattan. http://advancedstyle.blogspot.com/
Love these colours together!
Sick days are not fun. This outfit is lovely though, must have been a nice visit! =D
Cute!
I used to work in a bookstore and one of our regular customers was an older lady. I always admired her masses of rings, bracelets, necklaces ... So I'm glad to find another old-lady-jewelry lover!
Feel better soon. :)
I agree. Im addicted to The Good Will!

Honestly, ever outfit you feature reminds me about the beauty of simple, clean looks. Loving the red pants here - they add a wonderful pop of color to the look. I also love the statement necklace for the polished and classy touch it adds. Thanks for much for sharing! Absolutely love your blog!

Why do you look so good in sweatshirts? It's not fair. :(. Hee, okay, just kidding. I mean, you do and it isn't, but I accept your general hotness. :)
I lovelovelove this outfit! So minimal but chic!

I absolutely love this outfit!

I totally wore an outfit like this this weekend - a grey, slouchy sweater shirt, slim coral pants, and brown wedges. Great minds think alike!
I also hope you're feeling better :-(

Your outfit is super cute. And I totally agree about older ladies being super stylish. I was at Target yesterday and there was this older lady with a great outfit on. It was monochromatic without being super matchy (not sure how to achieve that yet). Good to hear I'm not the only one who sees style in the older generation.
I NEED a slouchy sweater such as this!
