Friendspiration

friendspiration

friendspiration
works cited: dress c/o spotted moth; anthro sweater; UO flats; thrifted bag (which Sue tells me is a kyondo and the tag tells me made in Kenya, where hopefully in its first life was a fair-trade bag)

I wore this over the weekend when I was celebrating the last few days of summer--white dresses! bike rides in the park! a trip to Eastern Market! eating on open air patios!--and while I'm not particularly invested in the white-or-no-white after labor day rules (snooze), I do feel a little less inclined to wear my summery white dresses once it gets into September and I'm in the mood for a different color palette. On another note, I shamelessly copied my friend from grad school (miss you, M.) who bought this dress in navy blue and looked so smashing in it that I had to have one of my own. Friendspiration is the best inspiration, if you ask me. Hope you had a lovely weekend; I have so much fun stuff coming up this month on this blog that I can't wait to share! XO

Ahhh, I love this dress so much! It bums me out that Spotted Moth only makes stuff in small-ish sizes. I especially love the white with yellow - coming from Pittsburgh, it can be hard to pull off yellow without looking like a sports fan, but I think the yellow/white pairing might do the trick.

I know what you mean re: color palette. I'm all about matching my clothes to the season/weather. Also, love the strips with the lace dress. I have a cream lace dress & never thought to pair it with a stripe cardigan, so thanks for the inspiration!

I love that dress! Speaking of friendspiration, I had a group of friends buy the same flats in different colors! You're right it's the best inspiration :D I love that you paired it with yellow! Can't wait for you to share what you have instore :)

I have been eyeing this dress for ages! I remember they had it in peach on ModCloth for awhile but I hesitated too long in buying it.. So I was thrilled to see it in so many colors on spotted moth!! Do you mind if I ask how tall you are though? I'm 5'11 so I'm worried it would be too short on me and I can find a length on it for the life of me.

I can't to hear about/see all the cool upcoming blog stuff - and I am glad to hear that you are enjoying the last few weeks of summer. I'm scheming to cram in a camping trip before fall takes over totally.

My mom has two purses just like that (I may have taken one for personal purposes) but I love it. Ours don't have any tags, but definitely have the makings of being handmade. It's one of my favorites...

This is such a sweet little dress. The pops of yellow stand out wonderfully against the white lace. Perfect for wrapping up the summer with! I think you did wonderfully by drawing inspiration from friends! Sometimes the ladies in our life have the best takes on fashion. I know that's where I sometimes turn for ideas and advice. Love the outfit and thanks for sharing!

Yellow is my fave. I will miss its brightness in the fall months. I love your white dress and I totally agree with you on two aspects. One, friendspiration is the best and no white after Labor Day rules are lame!

What a lovely dress! The lace and waistband and gathering make it look more structured and sophisticated than a normal jersey tank dress, wonderful! And you wear it so well-- the yellow would never occur to me, and it works so well!

May I ask how you like those flats? I tried something similar from UO on this spring while I was looking for slightly-more-grown-up-than-but-just-as-comfortable-as-flimsy-Target-shoes and waffled over them severely. I'm waffling yet!

rachel--i like the flats a lot, but they did take some breaking in (esp. around the pinkie toes) and they have no arch support to speak of. I have a huge stack of inexpensive flats, because they are so easy to stick in my bag and travel with.

It always makes me happy to see gorgeous gals in yellow - you look radiant!

You always look so nice in springy/summery colors! Who knows? Maybe you can rock the white dress with some opaque tights.

Just stumbled across your blog and got that 'cha-ching' feeling of having hit blog gold! I too am a lover of fashion (shallow) despite being a bookworm, wordalist and all-round deep thinker (not so shallow). And now, to read everything you've ever written :-)

I love all the yellow! My favourite colour to wear, and it's a beautiful accent to your white dress. :)

This dress is soooo pretty. I love lace right now. I want that dress right now.

wow, pretty outfit, even though the sweater is more unusual than just "pretty." I have a Target ivory dress that is lace on top and plain on the bottom which I thought I would wear to work with a jacket, but it never looks business-like enough when I put it on... :( Maybe this will give me some inspiration. BTW, summer in DC will drag on bit...should not get too cold there too fast...
