Between the DC earthquake, the impending hurricane, a stolen credit card, torrential downpours, teaching a brand-new class, and zooming through four books in five days, this week has been a bit of a doozy and it's a relief to see it coming to a close. So today called for an easy outfit--dress, shoes, bag--and saving my energy for other things, like stocking up on snacks and candles in case our power goes out over the weekend. While it would be a hassle to lose electricity, I'm kind of excited by the thought of playing cards, reading by candelight, and making pasta on our camping stove. Oddly enough, Christopher doesn't share my enthusiasm for a romantic off-the-grid weekend with nary a moment of ESPN to be found. Hope your weekends are good (and safe and full of good books if you're facing down Irene).

OH MY GOODNESS! The camp stove is such a great idea! I was just sitting here, wondering how the heck I was going to survive on bread and olive oil all weekend in the event that the power in MA gets knocked out, but this idea is brilliant! My boyfriend bought a new camp stove for a trip we took a couple weeks ago, and it's still sitting in the trunk of my car.

You might have just saved my weekend. :)

I've stockpiled milk, and filled the bathtub with water, and set up a zillion candles. Off the grid would NOT be so bad!

I hope your week ends in a more relaxing manner than it started! It's crazy that you've just moved to DC and all of these crazy, not at all DC-typical events are occurring. At least your outfit does not show a hint of your stress. I adore that Megan Nielson dress!

I wish I had that dress- it's lovely. I do not however wish I had a forecast for a hurricane. We MIGHT get a bit of rain here but that's it.

I'm from Florida, and in my experience, as long as the roof isn't blowing off your house and no one's getting hurt, hurricanes can be kind of exciting. I have good memories of playing cards by flashlight with my then-boyfriend, now-husband. Enjoy being off the grid (because if this hurricane gets anywhere near you, you will be), and stay safe.

Such a cute dress, and you wear it so well. I'm on the west coast, so no worries about Irene over here, but I like the thought of an off-the-grid weekend by candlelight too. Especially one you can prepare for, unlike other random power outages. Good luck this weekend, and stay safe.

Haha. Your weekend sounds good to me, but I know my husband would feel the same as your man. Stay safe and dry out there!

Hope the storm doesn't do too much damage, everyone has just been going crazy here, and so far its been nothing but a little rain.

I love the simple dress, it is so cute, and being able to throw on a dress and be done is one of the best things about summer!

Super fun to meet you and Christopher by Dupont Circle today! Thanks for not being freaked out when I chased after you on P Street... My friends were so amused when I told them you were a famous blogger and I'm one of your fans! Here's hoping this coming week brings no extraordinary weather. Like I said, please get in touch whenever--absolutely no worries!! Cheers!
