I'm not much of a pattern-mixer, but I do like the subtlety of stripes-on-stripes. It makes the most of my suitcase-closet to pair together some of my many striped things, and something about mixing patterned garments feels like effortless style (even if that is literally because it took very little effort to choose one of my two sweaters to wear with this dress). Normally there's almost no need for sweaters in the summer, but I somehow roped my boyfriend into seeing Crazy, Stupid, Love with me, so I had to ward off the delicious A.C.-chill in the theatre. I loved the movie (grad student hesitations about neat male-female pairings aside) and I think Emma Stone is fantastic--have you seen it?

Oh, I have been dying to snatch up something from Emersonmade....so lovely!
And yes, I saw the movie. While I liked it quite a bit (and can handle a little "typical movie conflict romance"), I found the pairing of Ryan Gosling w/Emma a little...off? I don't know. I love them both, but it wasn't a very convincing match.
Love this look on you-- the yellow shoes put it over the top for me! And your hair looks great styled like this.
I loved the movie (from a non-critical viewpoint) as well. My favorite part was the night Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling's characters made their unexpected connection at his house. It felt sincere to me and totally reminded me of how fun it is to get to know someone great for the first time. What did Christopher think? My husband found parts of it entertaining but said it turned out to be more of a "chick flick" than he anticipated. But give me Julianne Moore and a friend named Liz who acts as the slightly quirky voice of reason and I'm already sold. : )
I'm timid of pattern mixing, too, but love the doubled-up stripes here!
I bought that Revolon lip stain in Flame, too, after Jen Lula wore and mentioned it. It's funny; on me I feel like it looks super super bright neon pink, and it looks so different (better) on you!
oh i've been wanting to try revlon lipstain. i keep hearing good things, so maybe i'll take the jump soon.
and i'm glad you liked Crazy, Stupid, Love. Just coming home from studying abroad all summer, I'm a little [read: very] poor, but i'm gonna try and scrounge up a movie gift card i remember getting for christmas to go see that. ha.
I'm going to see Crazy, Stupid, Love on Friday - glad to hear you liked it.
Have you Seen Midnight in Paris? It was a charming movie. I loved the portrayal of Hemingway.
bethany--it looks a little neon pink on me too! if i layer on a bit more, it looks more red but when it wears off it becomes more neon again.
Oh T, I love this - I find it so funny that every time you call out a fashion 'risk' that you don't feel super-comfortable with (bright colors, pattern-mixing, etc.), I am just wowed by the ease with which you wear it. These colors are beautiful together, particularly with the pop of red from the lipstick, and the different sizes & orientations of the stripes allow them visual autonomy without an optical power struggle. (Wow, can you tell that my brain is mush right now or what?) Just email these photos to Anthro and I'm sure they'll run them in their next catalog.
Those shoes are awesome! Well, the whole outfit is awesome, but I'm in love with the shoes especially. And that movie is on my to-watch list...glad to hear a kindred mind liked it :)
This is an adorable outfit and perfect for a little movie date :) The yellow/grey combo feels so sunny and laid back and the silhouette is - just as you said - effortless. I wish I was wearing this today...hmph.
And I just saw that movie with some friends this past weekend - it was so fun, wasn't it? I adore Emma Stone and I thought the rest of the cast was great too...it even included one of my ANTM favorites! I love a movie that can crack me up that much, but if I'm being honest that's really not so difficult.
Love yr look!!

love this! i love the idea of stripes on stripes - and of course, i'm in love with yellow.
I think in some ways, Emma Stone is the one actress our age that I feel we'd be best friends if we knew each other.
Another blogger and I were just discussing how we need more yellow in our life. What a great outfit!
I love that sweater. The stripes, the color, the detailing - very pretty.
I love that sweater, the detailing is so fun! I've been wanting to see Crazy, Stupid, Love so I'm glad to hear it's good!
This is the darlingest of all darling outfits. What I wouldn't give to own something from Emersonmade. And that cardigan is just perfect. Love the stripes! And I really want to see Crazy, Stupid, Love! Simply because I'm slightly obsessed with Emma Stone!
Loving your sweater!
