works cited: old navy skirt; target tank; necklaces c/o little o by wolfbrother; bracelet mooched from emily; thrifted bag; birkenstocks (no, I'm not ashamed and if you could feel the arch support in these babies you'd forget about looking cool, too)
I would say 95% of the skirts in my closet are either above-the-knee, high-waisted, or a shade of blue (and probably 50% are all three). But this skirt is an outlier in my skirt statistics; ergo, I feel a bit uneasy about this outfit (if you needed any more proof that I will never be cutting-edge...I am much more comfortable 6 months-1 year behind the rest of the style world). After all my mooning about whether or not to cut my maxi dress into a maxi skirt, Christopher suggested I just buy a maxi skirt and see if I like it. We found this one at the very nadir of big box stores, but it was cheap enough to serve as a guinea pig. I'd prefer something high-waisted but Christopher forbade me, saying that I should try something at the hips and depart from my uniform. To mix these inadvertent science metaphors even more clumsily, I'll end by saying I'm not sure how this experiment turned out. Something about the look feels a little shapeless, but maybe I just need to stop being so stodgy and learn to like different silhouettes on myself.
