Goodbye Party

goodbye party

goodbye party

works cited: emersonmade dress; vintage coach belt from mom; old navy sandals; bicycle tote from etsy

On Friday night, we had a little goodbye party with some friends. This dress has gotten a lot of love this summer but it is by far the most expensive thing I own, so I am determined to wear it to tatters. When I was growing up and we were on a tight budget, my mom splurged on a pair of leather sandals from hanna andersson. We justified the purchase (and forestalled my father's griping about the cost) by agreeing that I would wear them all the time so that we could tell my dad, "We didn't waste our money on these!" (we didn't...I wore them until they were ragged). The need to spend wisely was drilled into me then so in order to claim truthfully, "I didn't waste my money on this," I have to embrace repeats. And rather than fretting over whether it gets too boring, I'm hoping this is a more honest documentation.

I'd wondered if you wore that awesome dress a lot this summer. After many years of always seeking out new clothing, I'm coming to embrace the idea of having a smaller wardrobe of pieces that are just "me".

It looks incredible on you. I'm glad that you're getting a lot of good use out of it. Hope your goodbye party was a lot of fun!

It's not too boring! I love this dress and you always look gorgeous in it. I'm the same way, especially with shoes. Though I have such large feet that I really have no choice. I have to buy expensive shoes then make them last.

that's not a bad thing at all. you're getting your money's worth and you love that dress, so it's alright. plus you look so cute in it :)

Snort. I remember having that same onversation with mom (and then dad) after buying a pair of Birks when I was 10!

Dress is adorable, and it will be perfect all the way through fall, with cardis and tights. Keep it coming! It's such an excellent blank canvas.

I don't care if you wear that dress a lot because it looks great on you! I'm trying to explain to my boyfriend that it will make more sense to splurge on a pair of boots this fall that will last me for 7 years instead of buying a new pair every year. Maybe I'll show him this post!

I've never understood people who seemingly never wear the same thing twice. Surely the beauty of clothes and shoes like everything else is having a favourite that you always feel great in?

I'd much rather splurge occasionally on something I really love, than just buy buy buy for the sake of it!

I love your dress, and sometimes it is worth it to splurge on an item if you love it and you know you're going to wear it a lot! plus, it's always inspiring to see one piece styled different ways. :)

I had the same thing growing up... my parents didn't mind spending a little more if it was good quality and it would last me. This resulted in sturdy leather sandals when all I wanted was those patent mary janes:)

hope the move goes well!

The dress looks great on you, is appropriate for many occasions, and can be "remixed" many different ways. I'd say it was money well spent!

i feel the same way about clothes. i bought a pair of boots for $100 and told myself that I had to wear them at least 100 times so that I got my money's worth.

I used to be the unofficial assistant for the owner's wife at my dad's work and she would constantly talk about saving money. She used to talk about how much it costs to wear something X number of times, and I generally try to follow that. You know, it's bad if I spent $75 on a pair of jeans I only wear once, but when I wear them 75 or more times, it doesn't seem so bad. Good luck with remixing (or just wearing the same thing again!). You look awesome, as usual :)

I like repeats. They've usually been changed a little, either by different accessories or a new hairdo anyway. Plus the text along with the photos is never the same, because the blogger's life is in a new place, and that's refreshing enough for me!

That dress fits you perfectly! It's as if it was made for you...you should wear it all the time simply because of how great it looks anyway!
