After I got dressed today, I realized that this outfit reminds me a lot of Emily--braided hair, simple dress, artsy earrings. These somewhat silly milkmaid braids have become my favorite hot-weather hairstyle because I can do them when I haven't washed my hair in a few days (which feels like all the time this week), and they keep my heavy hair off my neck. At first, I felt a little bit costume-y wearing them, but now that I've gotten used to looking like my day job is herding cows on a mountaintop in Switzerland, I've really grown fond of them.

Ha, ha. I love the look of the milkmaid braids, but tried them & I don't think my hair is quite long enough. But love the look on you.
PS When I wore my hair in milkmaid braids I posed with a glass of milk (cause I'm weird like that)!

This looks like the perfect comfy summer outfit! I love milkmaid braids on other ladies, but I feel like they look a bit silly on me. Maybe I need to try them out again, though, because they really are the perfect way to get long, thick hair out of your way on hot days!
christy--keep doing them! i felt super silly at first and then i started to forget i was wearing them and i stopped being self-conscious. they are a lifesaver for hot days!
I think it looks super cute---makes me wish my hair was longer!
LOVE your dress - its about as much material as I am willing to wear, too, right now ...
I think the braids look marvelous on you, lady!

I love looking like a milk maid, too.
The plaits are lovely! and the close up isn't awkward at all, you look really pretty there :)

Love the braids! I've recently started rocking them as well (following The Other Emily's tutorial) and I find them simple and great at keeping my hair out of my face--essential when it's 100 degrees out there. I sometimes feel silly, but who cares what other people think? You look wonderful.
That's a lovely dress, and I like your hair braided it's super cute! =)

Lovely dress! :) I know what you mean about hot-weather hairstyles - I've been trying to keep my hair up as much as possible. The heidi braids are cute, maybe I'll try that this weekend.
Ya know, try as I might I have NEVER been able to do this hair style, but but but, it's so darn cute!!!

Well, you tell her she can't have it, because it's too cute on you to give up! I love that dress too, and those earrings? Swoon. I need to get a mailing address again, and soon, so I can resume my terrible etsy addiction. (Maybe I should also look into getting a job to pay for said addiction... maybe.)
Once when i was wearing my hair in braids like this, I actually had a woman working at a fabric store tell me that she used to wear her hair like that as a child in Germany - and then things got awkward because I had a lot of trim to cut and we didn't really have anything else to talk about. Whoops.
I definitely channeled you a couple days ago, working with kids means hair can't get in the way, so I borrowed your heidi braids!
I love your blog! You have inspired me to become a bit more creative with my clothing choices. Also, digging the milk maid braids!
I will never get tired of the Heidi braids!
