Goodbyes: 1; Boxes Packed: 0

Goodbyes: 1; Boxes Packed: 0
works cited: loft dress; seychelles sandals (via 6pm on saaaaale); target belt; photos by the lovely jessica

When I said we're moving on short notice, I mean really short notice. There's not a box in our house today and we have to be moved out of this place and in D.C. by August 1st. While I should probably be wearing mesh shorts and hyperventilating over how much there is to do, I've been trying to get a little work done and say goodbye to people before I turn into the box-packing, frantic, cranky version of myself. Yesterday, I took a break from grading to have one last coffee date with Jessica, who always gives me that warm feeling in my heart and was also kind enough to take these photos while singing Right Said Fred to me.

Sometimes doing things at short notice can be a good thing. It gives you little time to dwell & before you know it your living your new life. It's exciting ... & skype is a beautiful thing!

PS proof reading my comments is also a beautiful thing.

This is such a perfectly pretty summer look - I think a breezy white dress might need to move to the top of my thrift-hunting list.

And moving is one of those bizarre goldfish tasks - just as the fish will grow to fill the size of its tank, packing for a move will take exactly as long as you give it. It's always painful, but at least you know it will be short! :)

a great thing about moving is all the stuff you shed-- either out of necessity, or because you are finally forced to go through it all.

Moving is horribly stressful. There isn't really anything fun about it until you actually arrive at the new destination. Wishing you the best!

And this dress is absolutely darling! You have the art of "simple and chic" mastered. Love it!

Wow that is quick! Moving is a pain but how exciting to be experiencing this change! Good luck with everything.

p.s. Love your sandals!

Good luck with your move. Doing things on short notice drive me crazy! Let's hope everything goes as smoothly as possible. *fingers crossed*

I love your dress :)

Ask an organized friend to come over and help. It will make things go more quickly and make the process more fun. My friend helped me pack and was AWESOME. Also love DC! You'll have a blast!

Congrats and good luck! As nutter butters as this move might make you, I bet it'll be a great excuse to play dress up in your closet under the auspices of "making sure you really want to take this article of clothing with you" and sorting through all your photos and memories with the excuse that you're "cleaning out the office." Or at least that's how I roll...

Well, the moving itself is no fun, but how great to be going to DC! I just got back from a work trip there. It's a really fun city, with loads of cool things to do. Good luck with the packing, and good for you to be savoring a last few days with friends before the craziness ensues!

Oh oh. I know that girl- the evil, sweaty, "Why do I have so much shite?!" girl who feels extreme hatred for all the unpacked boxes of her life. I was just her a few weeks ago. She's scuuuurrry.

As sad as I am to have you leave my neck of the woods (I won't say, "We only just met!" because that's just too cliche), I'm so excited for you and C. And I'm glad I'll have an excuse to make my way to DC more often now! Maybe Sean and I should take a road trip from the Chi to SC and stop in to see you... ;)

Good luck moving!! I'm in the middle of relocation myself and it's a real pain! D.C. will be great, though; a close friend lives just outside the city in Washington Grove, MD - a quirky, awesome little artist colony, definitely worth a look. Fantastic dress!

I am loving the brown and white combination you have going on here. Good luck with your move! It's certainly a very exciting time.

Congrats on the move! I am another personal style blogger in DC and I love it here! Hidden gem neighborhood: Eastern Market. Stay within a few blocks of the eastern market or capitol south metro stops and you'll be on a good street, and Eastern Market is has a very charming neighborhood feel to it. Lots of independent restaurants and a huge farmer's/flea market on weekends.

It's so funny that I too am moving on August 1st to my apartment as well! Looks like we both have a lot of packing to get started on! Don't forget to keep us posted on your new adventures in D.C!

On the one hand it's sad and on the other hand it's awesome to be moving away on short notice. It sounds like you're making the best of it though :)
Plus you look supercute and summery! I love white dresses with simple brown accessories!

Stress not pretty one. In the end it is all only things and there is new cities have stores too.

But above anything if you can look this good under stress... you've not reason to stress at all :-)

so very very pretty!

I meant to ask you about this dress--I love it! It's not in the stores anymore but there are a lot on Ebay and I'm liking it in the pink. How's the sizing? I find Loft stuff often runs huge? Also, have you washed it?

Thanks so much--I know you're very busy moving, so no rush AT ALL in responding.

What Would a Nerd Wear said...

hi laura--
i'm so sorry to say i don't remember what size the dress is and it's in the moving van packed up and departed so i can't check. i know it i sized down either 1 or 2 sizes, but i can check when the van gets to DC and email you if you will send me your email!
the pink really washed me out; though i normally like pinks, it was a little bit of a nude-pink, just FYI. i haven't washed it yet; i probably will the next time i wear it.
