I briefly put on shoes to take a long walk down the beach, hang out with my grandparents (year-round residents of Kennebunkport) and visit the clam shack with Christopher to eat delicious fried sea creatures. I about died when I walked past this wall--I have a not-very-well-hidden adoration for lobsters, inherited from my mother--and naturally, the coast of Maine in the summertime is just swimming with real lobsters, lobster-jokes, lobster-merchandise, lobster-art, and lobster-you-name-it. It may be a tourist trap, but I am sunk in it deeply, delighted to see my clawed friend everywhere I turn.

I'm a bike-riding bookworm in DC trying to make better use of a sometimes-vanilla closet. You can read a little more about this blog

Hah! I knew this post would in some way contain or reference your lobster dress. Hope you're having a lovely time in Maine! Very jealous of your seafood consumption. :)
This is the cutest picture ever. I love the imagery of the golden lobster against the brick wall! Glad you are having a lovely holiday in Maine.
Aww super cute! I'm from the maritimes and I totally understand the Lobster thing :) Have you seen the Lobster Bake Maxi at Anthro yet?! Totally up your alley! http://bit.ly/mmigZq

love it. if you're a fellow lobster lover, i'd like to strongly recommend "the secret life of lobsters" by trevor corson.
it's an oddly fascinating study-turned-novel about lobster biology and (in my opinion, more interestingly) psychology. no science background needed. it doesn't sound like a quick read, but i devoured this book and have a new appreciation for these bizarre little sea bugs.
plus you can have all sorts of interesting tidbits to throw into everyday conversation, such as "did you know that lobsters have a literal p#%$ing contest to establish dominance?" yep, you too can be as popular as i am at parties.
This outfit just screams beach vacation; you look so comfy and lovely. And I think your lobster obsession is adorable! I'm the same way when it comes to seals and sea lions. They seriously fascinate me for reasons I can't really even put my finger on.
I love the nautical feel going on. Also, that wall is just too cool. :)
I'm 90% certain I've thrifted that exact same belt - and I love it. I've only had it a couple of months, but I wear it all the time.
And I adore the skirt / tank combo. I'm definitely keeping that one in mind.
Happy Vacation!
Best backdrop ever!

cora mae--i JUST gave that book to my mother and we were talking about it all through breakfast. what a funny coincidence! she told us all about how they crush each other's claws to assert dominance (kind of upsetting to hear, actually!).
tania: great minds think alike! i actually went to see the author speak a few times (don't tell my fiance but i have a little bit of a crush on him) and he was hilarious. but yes, lobsters are vicious and kind of gross. i strongly prefer them as fascinating living critters than as, say, my dinner.
p.s. i continue to be super jealous of your lobster dress.
Yummmm ... lobster! Love Maine, and your outfit, too!
Very cute and fun pictures! I definitely remember your love of lobsters and I remember that lobster dress!
However, this outfit is so pretty! i like the skirt alot!
I LOVE that skirt! I'm so happy to see it was thrifted, but that doesn't exactly help me purchase one [I have yet to find a pleated, longer-than-knee-length skirt that fits my requirements. I'm sure there's a proper name for this type of skirt, but I'm [clearly] not aware of it].
cora mae--great minds, indeed! it's exciting to hear that you met the author--and don't worry, i won't breathe a word to your fiance :)
AJD--i think they are called midi-skirts. i've seen some similar styles at anthro (with a tie waist), on etsy (you might have to look around), and at zara (in different colors but lots of great similar styles). i hope you can find one!
AJD!! just found one almost exactly like it! behold: http://store.americanapparel.net/rsaap302.html?cid=151
You are awesome! Thank you SO much for finding one for me! This skirt is going to be perfect for bicycling to work, too...
& thanks for the compliment on my tattoo! It's new [as you probably noticed], so I'm still totally intrigued by the fact that it's on MY body. Bonus when other people like it as well!
I was wondering the same thing as ADJ! When you post something really good that's thrifted I'm always like, "NOOOOOOOO, but I want the same thing!"
I'll have a look at AA some time!
So cute! I'm dying to find the perfect pleated skirt!
so simple, so perfect for summer vaca
Mmm. Now I want lobster...
And this outfit is casual summer perfection. :)
Such a perfect nautical-esque outfit for a day full of lobsters and other sea creatures!
This is my first time commenting, so I hope I do it right. I have to let you know about this lobster t-shirt:

I really want a star moss shirt from this Etsy seller, but I remembered seeing her lobster shirts and wondering who the heck would want those (since I didn't realize there are people who are enamored by lobsters). I hope you find this helpful!
I love this! I recently read an article on lobster season in Maine, and now I'm dying to go! Hope you're having fun...and that you brought the lobster dress!
anon--eeee, thanks for the link! i love the shirt!!! (me and my weird obsession). i hope you are back for more comments soon, this was a great one :)
The clam shack in Kennebunkport - *le swoon*. If I knew I was going to die tomorrow, I'd probably fly up to Maine to go to the clam shack.
Hee hee...lobster love!
Okay, now that that's over...you are just the stinking cutest. Even if I didn't know you I'd think that, and knowing your nerdiness, I can only think it more. Your simple stripes and braided belt are perfect w the weathered wall and, of course!, w that Monsieur Lobster.
That is a really cool place to take outfit pics!
just saw this: http://katespadeny.tumblr.com/post/6555227649
and it made me think of this post of yours....
Love this look! Makes me want a striped tank! Officially added to my wish list!
