Sometimes it's the little things that make an outfit feel special--stripes on a button-up, a favorite necklace, earrings with sentimental value--even though they can be hard to capture on camera. But I felt a little pizzazz in my step today because of the details, even if they don't show up to their full effect in photos. Two other random notes: 1. this whole outfit costs $20--I think Kyla would be proud and 2. I know it is not earth-shattering news to hear that someone has been wearing black flats for several days running but I finally broke these flats in after 2 years and I'm feeling like I need to do a week-long walk of triumph with them :)

Loving the pockets in your skirt! You always look adorable!

Hooray for breaking in shoes!! I love the simplicity of your outfit!
Gah, I hate having to break in new shoes - congrats on finally managing! Lovely outfit xo
Congrats on breaking into your flats! I have really narrow feet so it's really hard for me to break in flat shoes.
I love the design of your skirt! This outfit is so chic in its simplicity, and it's perfect for the crazy humidity down here... :)
Another wonderful little thing: the poppies behind you!
Just stumbled across your blog and I am completely in love! So wonderful to see that college students and style really are compatible!
Love this outfit! I just picked up a simple black skirt + now I have some inspiration! ;)
I so agree with you. it is the little things :) I love this overall look
That button-up shirt is perfect! It reminds me that I should acquire one--everyone's little black dress is my blue cotton button-up blouse.
This is a great and classic outfit! Love it's simplicity paired with the little details that make you happy...after all that's the point, right? For our clothes to make us feel happy and confident!

I love an outfit that makes me feel that pizzazz of which you speak! :) And you look stunning too. Amen to broke-in shoes! No pain, no gain.
little things are the best. like the pop of red that your nail polish gives off! love it!
Love the simple black skirt, plus congratulations on breaking in the flats! Quite a feat, no pun intended.
its simple yet chic outfit..
UO flats are the hardest to break in, aren't they? Love your top!
I HAVE THESE FLATS! (I think). And they are the perfect chic black flats, but they are so uncomfortable!!! How does a person break in uncomfortable shoes without losing their feet in the process?
Ha, ha ... I do that. My shoes are practically vintage before I wear them in properly ... although wearing tights fasten the proces.
*process ... :)
The little things indeed, like that lovely pop of red nails.
I love that skirt with the button down. And I'm jealous that you live somewhere that sleeves are an option! The near 100-degree temps here keep me sweating all the time!
Completely feel you on the special accessories that no one sees but you. When I'm feeling frumpy, putting on a necklace or pair of earrings with a sweet story behind them makes me me much more pulled together. :)
You look great! There is nothing better than feeling great in an outfit :)

ssm, the poppies ARE gorgeous, aren't they?
louise, har har, very punny :)
carolyn, yes! they're terrible.
sophie--i just wore them for short periods of time, spread out. it really took me over one lazy year to do it. i know some people wear socks and flats around the house which breaks them in without breaking your feet. and also band-aids and sometimes a little vaseline on the friction-y spots helps a lot. but i am with you!! these flats were cruel and unusual to break in.
Way to be persistent with the flats! They are very cute.
You look great, and I am tempted to borrow this outfit idea.
I love this outfit! I don't know if you ever saw my blog but i actually have that striped shirt from Target which I remade( I took off all the buttons and added different ones) and it gave the top a whole new look! I just want to say I really like your blog and you were one of my imspirations for starting one myself.
You look adorable! It might even be my perfect outfit :).
I just wanted to point out to you how freakin' fabulous your blog is and even though you're a student as well, you find the time to do this blog too! Don't ever think that you need to change because you and your blog is perfect! You inspire me every day! And even though I'm absolutely terrible at commenting on posts, but just know that I'm always reading. Keep on keepin' on!
