Mind Over Mesh Shorts

Mind Over Mesh Shorts
works cited: out of print tee shirt; skirt c/o spotted moth; urban outfitters flats

I am a big proponent of the get-dressed-to-get-stuff-done school. As much as I try to cajole myself into thinking I will be really productive in an old pair of Christopher's basketball shorts, when I am wearing pajamas, my brain is on vacation. Because my job this summer will involve a lot of work from home and coffee shops, I know it will be particularly important that I motivate myself to put on real clothes to put my head in work-mode. Yesterday morning, for example, I lazed around the house reading the newspaper in pajamas thinking "I'll start working in ten minutes..." for about forty minutes. When I finally wrangled myself into this outfit (a literary tee shirt for good measure), I found it was easy to lock myself in my study and work efficiently. Now comes the problem that's more difficult to solve--how to convince myself to take my own advice in the morning.

I agree so much with this! Even if i've had to get up stupidly early to finish work and am on a very tight time budget, i have to get-dressed-to-get-stuff-done..it just won't happen otherwise. Plus i love the graphic tee, fancy skirt combo (and its literary!) so cute xXx

My feelings exactly! Yesterday morning I did exactly the same thing - except my "I'll start working in ten..." phase lasted even longer than yours.

Tania, that is exactly what I think: once you get dressed you push yourself to do whatever you have to, but if you stay in pajamas (like I am now), your whole body feels like you're going back to bed in 5, 4, 3, 2... Hahahaha... You look darling!

Have an awesome week!

I have had the same experiences. I get much more done if I actually get dressed in the morning, even if it's just jeans and a tee.
I'm really digging that Lolita shirt.

I ADORE this look! I'm a big fan of those Out of Print tees!

I always feel I'm more productive in business casual clothes when I go to work as apposed to jeans, so I know how you feel. This is a cute outfit ~ perfect for the warm weather!

Ahhh ... this sounds like me to trying to study every weekend.

I am the exact opposite! Give me some yoga pants and a hoodie and I could conquer the world (and be comfortable while doing it). Yesterday I needed to get some work done, so I dress the part (and blogged about my need for comfort while writing here: http://latinforpayattention.tumblr.com/post/6000057450/sunday ).

Love the tshirt!

Love it! So cute & simple. I love the casual T with the skirt. I've usually been a bit of a tom boy so I'm trying to incorporate more skirts into my wardrobe.

I work from home/coffee shops, so I totally get this. I have a rule for myself that I have to get dressed within an hour of waking up - on work days, anyway - or else I'll stay in my jammies all day (and won't get anything else done!).

You look really really almost-way-too cute here Tania and I couldn't agree more! And since I am the same way about taking my own advice, now I'll just tell myself it's your advice. I won't want to do wrong by you.

I think I have the same problem. Proper clothes= productive. Pjs= laziness. You look cute!

i like that outfit. messy bun and all.

You look lovely! Oh, and I feel the same. I have to get dressed in order to be really productive! Jammies just don't cut it for me!

Emma said...

Totally agree! I also love your messy bun.

You look cute for the weekend wear. Liking the messy bun too! haha I am so that way. I cannot work in my Pj's, if I am gonna get anything done - i gotta get dressed bec it makes me feel good about myself and then i can take on the world.

That skirt is super cute. I too am doing a lot of at-home work this summer and it's definitely harder to do in comfy pajamas!

I couldn't agree more! Not only am I more productive when I put the extra effort into my appearance, but I'm also inspired and happier.

I LOVE this outfit so much. Simplicity is beauty. Also, I would love to have a literary tee like that! I hope they make a Jane Eyre or Persuasion one :)

Very cute outfit! You look great.

I love the t-shirt! I teach online in the summer and know the problem whereof you speak. I have a set time that I begin my work each day and I wear a skirt EVERY day, though my students will never see the effort I make.

This is why I try my hardest to make myself shower as soon as I get up, even if I don't have any plans for the day. The longer I stay unshowered, the less likely I am to shower, and therefore the less likely to ever leave the house. It's easy to avoid buying groceries if I'd have to take a shower in the middle of the day. :)

Oh goodness, I totally understand that feeling. I really love this outfit, I'm in l-o-v-e with that skirt.

Totally agree, some people think it´s easier to work from home, in my experience is harder. The line between work and play fades when you are at home
Great outfit!

I love your Out of Print shirt. I'm dying to get the To Kill a Mockingbird one. Any combination of books and fashion is okay by me!

That skirt looks so fab on you - and I totally get the same feeling, if I'm in PJs I just can't function.

So much the same here also - I need to do my hair, apply mascara, and wear something cute if I intend to get anything done! Comfy clothes make me want to read magazines and watch soaps. :)

I love that skirt

Yeah...sometimes it's hard to decide on what to wear everyday...I especially have that problem on the weekends and I get to wear anything I want. During weekdays, I don't get that luxury because I have to go to work but sometimes I manage.

You have just outlined one of my life's major philosophies. And why I hate velour sweatpants.

I hear ya, I definitely need to dress myself to be able to be productive. This outfit looks like it does just that!

That's a good idea! I'm such a procrastinator, maybe I should try dressing up to get myself to work more. You look lovely, as always!

I am so there on the motivation part. I am currently writing my thesis and do that from home. My blog is a big part in motivating me to actually dress up. Then I use the time when taking outfit pictures to actually run some long postponed errands!

THis is super cute!!! Perfect for procrastinating! :)

Good call! Dress for Success is my name for it, and it sooo works. Also, I totally wanted the Lolita shirt, good for you for getting it! Such a great font . . . and, more importantly, such a great book!

I have a skirt similar to yours -- its become my go-to for low key days. I love how your "relaxed" look still incorporates your personal style -- and much cuter than mesh shorts!

Wow! One of my go-to outfits this past summer (it's winter here now) was practically identical to this! This exact tee, a high waisted denim skirt, and black flats. I love how similar our styles are. You look gorgeous :)
