Cause to Celebrate

My mother wrote me recently to say "stop apologizing for your outfits in your blog posts; it's okay if you dress simply sometimes." So here I go, Mommala, a really simple outfit for which I won't apologize. Sometimes when the weather starts to turn warm (ahem, finally!), it feels lovely to take it easy with a simple dress and flats. And along with celebrating the warm weather, our household had another big reason to rejoice...

My boyfriend, Christopher, successfully defended his dissertation on Friday so now he has his PhD! (I was probably more nervous than he was on the morning of his defense; I paced up and down the hallways with butterflies in my stomach but he seemed cool as a cucumber :). It's such a huge accomplishment and it was such a joy to share such a big day with him.

Congratulations Christopher (and Tania, of course)! I was exactly the same way when my boyfriend defended - really really nervous. I hate to think about what that implies for the state I'll be in when it's my own turn next year...

I posted up your feature on my blog :)

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I know what you mean. I felt the same way about 1.5 year back when my husband defended. He however was totally cool and relaxed!!! :) Your hair is looking awesome in here, btw!!

Congrats ... the system for PhD is slightly different in my discipline, so no defending for me. Just submission & alot of finger crossing :)

Congratulations to Dr. Christopher! And to you too (Future Dr.) Tania, because I'm sure your support meant more to his success than you may even realize.

And I have to say, your mom sounds like one smart cookie - it must be genetic. While I'm often guilty of the apologetic-outfit-post too, she's absolutely right that you shouldn't feel like you're letting your readers down by wearing something 'simple' - for a lot of us, the way you can make a few pieces look super chic and pulled together is one of the things that drew us to your blog in the first place. :)

Congratulations, Christopher!!! I hope you two enjoyed some much-deserved celebration and relaxation this weekend!

And Tania, I love how the addition of the brown belt, the leopard print flats, and the neck detailing on the dress make this "simple" outfit anything but "boring"!

CONGRATULATIONS CHRISTOPHER!

And I adore you simple outfits. Honestly, I think they're the reason I started reading (and loving) you blog. You have a knack for taking simple basics and highlighting their beauty through color, texture, and silhouette, often with a fun little pop in there. For example--today you are rocking some mixed neutrals. With a fun knotted belt. And LEOPARD. I wish we could all be as "boring" as you!

OMW. I basically wore the exact same outfit yesterday to church/work. Same exact dress, short gray cardigan, and brown skinny belt, but my flats were nude. So weird, haha!

Congratulations to Christopher!

And your mom's right: no need to apologize for an outfit. Think of it as keeping it real.

I agree with all of those listed above that affirmed your perfect simplistic taste. As a merging adult I see the need to improve my wardrobe from t-shirts and jeans to a more sophisticated look. Grad school interviews, job interviews, internship interviews, the tone is set before you say one word. Your outfit speaks more than you know. I appreciate how you bring in simple pieces transforming them into a beautiful outfit. I have received many compliments due to inspiration by you. KEEP IT UP!

Your simple outfits are classy and sweet no need to worry about judgment. (I could learn something I'm def guilty of over accessorizing).
And congrats to Christopher! I'm sure it was crazy stressful & challenging & that he did a fantastic job.

Congratulations to your boyfriend! How exciting [I was nervous just reading this post]!

By the way, I am so happy that you sometimes wear things a few days in a row/multiple times during the week. It's nice to know that there's a blogger out there that shares the same outfit sentiments as me. Thank you.
