Grandma Sparkles

grandma sparkles

grandma sparkles
works cited: thrifted skirt; urban outfitters sweater; j. crew tank; target clogs; linleyshea necklace

I read an article the other day that suggested pairing a midi-skirt with a sparkly tank and big heels to offset the longer skirt length. I didn't need to go to campus yesterday so I gave this a shot, but then I felt like I needed to offset the sparkles (and the chill) so I added my worn-in grandma sweater. What resulted was not some fresh juxtaposition but an outfit which isn't sure if it is going to the club or to the retirement community. The outfit was saying, "Hey, I'm trying a little too hard." Or maybe it was saying, "You can call me Grandma Sparkles from now on"...

Not at all! You definitely don't look like a Grandma! Love it. and your necklace is so pretty.

you are being too hard on yourself. this outfit is perfectly fine! :) maybe you are just not totally used to the longer length? it's quite flattering, really!

lolol, I don't think this looks like Grandma Sparkles at all! That skirt is divine and I love the daytime sequins! They don't stand out at all, and I love the pairing of Linley's turquoise necklace with it all for a pop of color!

Those heels are fabulous and you did great by pairing them with that skirt!!

I think this is a really cute and quirky outfit, I love the mix of sparkles and the worn-in wool and the primness of the skirt and those gorgeous heels.

I don't think this looks like you're trying to hard at all. I think it looks like "Hey, it might be a little chilly for just a tank"! This skirt is a lovely length on you; I have a hard time accepting that a longer skirt will work on me but I just might have to give it a try.

I love it, no matter what you call it! It's got so many opposite textures which is exactly what makes the outfit so great!

This outfit is super cute. (Never feel guilty for a G-ma sweater). This is like a classy casual outfit. 'I'm going to a nice restaurant with my friends where we will sip wine and discuss the merits of Faulkner and the global economic crisis'

I really like this look. Not at all grandma like or trying to hard. I may have to try and recreate this outfit.

I love the juxtaposition! You look awesome and I really love the length on the skirt, I know you talked about shortening it, and I guess you can in the future, but you really seem to be working it for now! You look awesome as always! :)

I like this outfit on you, but I know what you mean, sometimes we just don't feel our outfit (that was me yesterday...).

Have a lovely day!

Oh my gosh, I want to do this RIGHT NOW. The only short sleeves with sparkles I have is black and my only midi skirt is black. Hmm... Colorful belt and in for the try, perhaps?

No, I like this! I read the same article (or a similar one), maybe a cropped cardi would have the proportions you were looking for? Either way, I still think this is adorable!

love the necklace, friend! (: it looks great against that bronze, sequin top! (and... no one thinks you look like grandma. you look awesome. duh.)

i think if you would have gone with a less sparkly shirt, this outfit would have been A+. a cup of jo featured a midi accordion pleat skirt on her blog today -- you've almost got it down! :)

Grandma Sparkles made me laugh. And I don't think you look silly at all.

Laura said...

Actually, I really really like this. Even in photos, the mix of textures really comes across. The only thing I might change is the necklace: it looks like the chain got caught on the sequins.

Well done. The cardigan was the perfect piece to keep the whole thing in reality, keep it from being too Fashion-y. You look awesome!

I really like the combination! I really need to pick up a sequin tank. I would probably change the shoes with this particular ensemble. I think a kitten heel or a pump sans ankle straps would look chic!

you could swap the cardigan for a darker/dressier top, but i think the outfit is great the way it is! sparkly & comfy, offset the offsetting :)

JB said...

No way do you look like a grandma! I love how you wore the sequins with this skirt!

Miranda said...

Trying too hard? No! The outfit looks great! It's the kind of outfit you could wear pretty much anywhere.

Ashlee said...

My grandma would have paired that tank with a sweater, a scarf, some polyester pants, a pair of slouchy knee-socks and some well-worn loafers. You look waaaay better. Spring is for sparkles!

There is no way you look like a grandma in this outfit! The sparkly shirt, skirt, and heels look great together!

Yeah, this outfit totally works. I actually think it's one of my favorites from the recent posts.

This is one of those outfits that's really cute but I'm not sure exactly where you would wear it.

BTW - that skirt is great on you! I especially love it with the button down. Makes me want to try out a midi skirt again.

I always love the juxtaposition of traditional elements with more "modern" things. I have something similar on today, only the skirt is taupe and the top is neon instead of sequin-y, and, even at the old age of 29, I feel kind of awesome in it. Guess it just depends on personal style/preference. I think you look great!
