I Covet You: My Unrealistic Spring Wishlist of my Dreams

Yesterday, a friend asked me what's going to be "in" for spring. The truth is, I have no idea. But I do have a few things wishlisted for warmer weather. I am too poor to buy more than, oh, two of these items, but I can use them as starting points for thrifting and trading either way.

It's no secret that I love orange, but for spring, I'm wondering if I can pull off a brighter orangey-red shade. I'm thinking of starting with a piece I can wear away from my face just to test things out. Also, the skirt in the middle is pure perfection, take it from my super fashionable friend Jen, of orange-red lipstick inspiration.

On a different note, my 1992 self is calling and it says that backpacks and chino shorts are all the rage for spring. But seriously, I can't explain my sudden desire to own a leather backpack, preferably this perfect one that my best friend from college posted on her blog and that sold instantaneously after she did so (thanks for shattering my backpack dreams, Caitlin).

I'd love your input--do you have any insight on what will be cool for spring? (My uncoolness is well documented, so I need all the help I can get :)

Sorry, no tips from me. I really like that J Crew skirt, too. Mostly just wanted to say how grateful I am that you used the word covet correctly, it drives me absolutely batty when bloggers say they covet something they already own.

Oh my goodness, I've been obsessed with orange lately, too. It's why I made this: http://www.etsy.com/listing/68125859/patricia-sunset-orange-fabric-flower

5" jcrew chino shorts are the only shorts I've been wearing since, like, high school. Although the last few seasons they've changed their sizing so I've had some fit issues. 3" is a little too short for my comfort level, and I can always roll up the 5" and layer with tights.

I've been wanting to make a button-front skirt since last spring, but I am still a little scurrred of the button hole attachment thingy for my sewing machine. :P

If you have a Francesca's near you, there's an orangey skirt VERY similar to that one in stores right now, for...$34? $38? I can't remember, but I do work there and have seen it on and it's really cute.

Oranges/pinks/honeysuckle is SUPER in this year (thanks Pantone). Big colors and big prints - think 80s, reinvented - are big. And, as has been pattern for a few years, nautical is back.

I can't wait to see the other comments on this!

Just FYI, I bought the J.crew 3" chino shorts in two colors last year. One in mid-May (in the color Amethyst), about $20, The other in mid-December (in the color Stone), $10.48.
I guess what I am trying to say is that there is ALWAYS big sales coming at J.Crew. Just be patient and maybe let your Spring obsession hang on a little bit longer to become Summer obsession and it'll pay off. :)

Those J. Crew shorts have been in my closet for a couple of summers, and I can tell you that they rock. Definitely get those!

Aside from that, I can't tell you what's cool either.

i think you're totally on the right track with lighter oranges but you're right - finding the ride shade is tricky!! what about a pale tangerine color? florals are supposed to be a big deal too (what's new??), but in big, interesting prints. i don't see you jumping on that bandwagon too much, tho! =))

I'm not so cool either, but I can't wait to find a perfect floral printed dress that I'm going to make match everything :)

I also have no idea, though I should because I'm addicted to fashion mags. But I never go by that stuff (which is most of the time not my style) and just go with what is "in" every year. On my list for spring - beige trench coat (with extremely picky criteria lol). I've been hunting them obsessively online for a while now...it's probably time to actually go outside to search some thrift shops.

I love the two skirts, and the backpack!

Minutes before checking out your post today (a part of my daily lunch hour), I was discussing this Spring's "in" colors with friend who shared the links below. I am similarly clueless about cool colors but it looks like you're pretty on track with the "coral rose", "silver cloud" and perhaps a lighter shade of the "blue curacao" in the shoes!

Orange is so having a moment these days. I love both the dress and skirt. Ack, chino shorts!! I'm pretty sure I have a pair tucked in one of my dressers that I might need to bust out to stay on trend. Thank goodness I held on to them...let's hope they still fit!

I love orange too. I also see lots of 1992 everywhere and love it.

I bought a smaller version of a similar looking leather backpack on Ebay a few months ago for my Halloween costume (I was Lyra from Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials books). They really vary in price on ebay, but mine was only $20! It might be a good place to start searching.

oh I looove that orangey red shade! It's so pretty. I'm hoping I can find a dress in a similar shade. I'm excited about the more minimalistic style for spring too!. I love classic silhouettes. And that backpack is AMAZING! 2011 will be the new 1992 :)

I always see leather backpacks at the thrift store. Maybe you could find a cool secondhand one. Over stock has one that is a little similar bag here . I really like the black button up skirt. I know orange is going to be huge, and I'm hoping I can thrift some cool orange pieces. I'm not sure how orange will look with my really pale legs.

shorts and tights!
so excited for the cold harsh winds to go away so that I can play!

you could also probably DIY the orange skirt, based on your awesome skirt pattern! just throw the pockets on the front, instead of the seams!

I love those cork clogs and the orange skirt from J. Crew!

What's in for spring? Here are my predictions (not sure if I can use that word in english...sorry if not).

Orange certainly will be in! Big prints, maxi dress (time to go trifting), colour, colour, colour and more colour (I hope). I also think that printed bags with (again) lots of colours are going to be in.

In conclusion lets just dress like in the 70's and all will be fine ;-) (lets not forget hair accessories also)

Have a great week end!

I bought a cute canvas backpack from Baggu. Certainly not as cute as the leather one, but they come in fun colors and are only $28 http://baggubag.com/#Shop

hmmm... I think eyelets are going to be in and eastern influenced pieces such as turbans and layering chunky gold jewelry. I also thinks backpacks will be in (yay!) as well as clogs! Colorwise, I think combinations of orange cream and seafoam blue and teal and buttercup yellow will be 'in'

Amazing! I am currently obsessed with all things orange/melon, and I especially love that first dress by Ruche.
