Works Cited--Outfit 14
blouse, sweater: h&m
jeans: gap
belt: thrifted
necklace: forever 21
boots: steve madden

I saw the adorable Paige wearing this sweater with jeans and a blouse and loved the contrasting shapes of extra-long cardigan with a hip-length patterned top. For whatever reason, it hadn't occurred to me to pair this cardigan with jeans, so I was grateful for the inspiration. I don't often wear jeans when I'm teaching but with a polka-dot blouse, necklace, and cardigan, it felt formal enough (and in any case, more formal than most of my bright-eyed Uggs-and-sweatpants-clad students).

I like that you don't often talk about your body here because that translates to me as body confidence. In general, I like that bloggers like you make it possible to talk extensively about clothes without having to talk about what flatters your body, etc.

Nonetheless, I'm using that as a preface to say: Your body looks banging in these photos!

You look super cute! Thanks for the inspiration, this is definitely a look I could do! I would need some sort of long light colored cardigan though. Loving all your remixes so far!

I love this outfit! It looks very put together, I would wear it in the classroom! Looks great.

As a former uggs and sweatpants undergrad, I'm sure you will be substanially dressier than your students. Love the polka dots.

Oh cute! I think you look very polished and adorable, jeans and all! xo Something about polka dots is just so feminine and classy, isn't it?

The lines of this outfit are very flattering. I once read a book that told me to try to achieve "long over short" or "short over long" to get the best advantage in your clothes and avoid that cut in half look. This looks great!

Very cute outfit, and very put together. I think the necklace gives it that little bit of formality for work.

Teaching clothing win! How can I tell all my peers that something like this works, but that their old jeans and shapeless sweater doesn't? Arrgh.

Your students must think you're awesome. Have you gotten comments on your clothes in your evals yet? (That's odd--been there.) Have any of them found your blog? What will you do when/if they do?

Love the look, Tania!
It's my signature outfit for teaching! No skirts or dresses allowed for me since I work in a lab. I even have the same boots and cardi. :)

I like this, it's somehow slightly different than what you usually do but it looks very nicely put together!

Lovely! I try not to wear jeans on teaching days either.
You really should take those boots to a cobbler or the elements will eat into them. The cobbler can fix and polish them and make them beautiful.

When will Uggs die? I thought that would happen when Paris Hilton stopped gracing every cover of US Weekly.

I am glad I got out of college before the Uggs and sweatpants phenomenon started! I love this look - it's casual yet put together!

I wear jeans to teach a lot, but I try to dress them up like you have here. Because students in sweatpants and Uggs will always be there, I feel dressy enough :) Plus, I have a male colleague who wears shorts every day, so that's where the bar is set in my department.

I think the long sweater looks great with the skinnies. It is a nice balance of loose and fitted.

Fantastic! You're right... Jeans + polka dot blouse + necklace = TOTALLY formal enough for teaching. A lot of people think that as long as you're wearing slacks, you look professional. I disagree. Very nicely done!

Long sweaters are a godsend! They really help pull an outfit together, and look great with almost anything. Love the polka dots!

I think it looks formal enough for teaching. I used to have a Comparative religions teacher who wore no shoes. One time he spilled coffee, and cleaned it up with his sock. He was an amazing teacher, and taught me a lot.

hahaha gotta love the overwhelming amount of Uggs and leggings on campus! I love the brown & black in this especially with the necklace!

i have the same cardi in gray and almost exclusively pair it with jeans. i love how the length works to my advantage when wearing slightly unflattering jeggings.

shealennon said...

Yes, this is a far cry from Uggs and sweats! I love this--the proportions totally work and I love the neutrals together.

i think i need a long cardigan like this. i always stayed away from them for fear of looking short...but i love the look.
