Good Thing My Bean Boots are in the 30 for 30

Happy first day of remixing! I've got to keep it short because once again I'm running late for teaching. It's supposed to start snowing like the dickens this afternoon, so I'm forgetting about heels and just wearing my bean boots to class. Luckily, I kind of love bean boots, much like I secretly love clogs, because they remind me of what my mom used to wear when we were growing up. But it's a slippery slope with the 70's and 80's. Next thing I know, I'll probably be carting around fanny packs and wearing leggings.

I like the roughness the boots add to this look! And I'm slightly jealous of all the snow you're getting. Silly ice storms are not cool. At all.

we're getting the same storm! love the outfit. i secretly wan to remix so bad but i dont really have a photographer since my fiance leaves for work before I do. :(

I think you really pull of the Bean boots / skirt look. Enjoy the snow!

The boots definitely work with this outfit because of the color palette! I LOVE that skirt in that color. I have it in gray and rust, and now I'm kind of wishing I had that color too. I always love your neutral outfits!

Melanie said...

The rest of your outfit is cute enough to be able to handle the contrast of the boots. When I try this I just look like a clunky disaster! :)

Linley said...

love that these boots made it into the first day! the rugged boots with the girly skirt is amazing, a new favorite type of look of mine! way to start out the challenge!

I'm so jealous of your snow! Here in Austin, we got a big tease with rain all night and freezing temps this morning. But no snow, and no snow day. :/ Still, I'm wearing boots and loving the cold weather. Cheers, and happy 30x30!

Eclectic Flair said...

I love this look! Especially that belt...it's awesome. I checked the weather this morning and I guess we're going to be in the 80s today so I'm actually going sans tights, isn't that crazy?

Bee said...

I no you were joking about the fannypacks and leggings, but it makes me laugh that I wear both those things. I can't deny the summer practicality of a fannypack and leggings are just so cozy! I suppose I shouldn't start a fashion blog...

aaez said...

i love that belt more and more each time you wear it. i've been searching for a double buckle belt or double wrap belt and haven't been able to find one anywhere!

I love how you wear 7 pieces so effortlessly! You're awesome.

Love that you are totally owning those boots. I agree--there's something great about wearing them, especially with skirts and tights!

good luck with the snow--we're getting ice here. I'd prefer the snow.

i LOVE this outfit. you inspired me to wear my bean boots outside of my pants/tights, which i had never done before. only problem: strange looks from the locals. oh, well! that's what i get for living in a small town.

The 30 for 30 is always intriguing to me. Even if I blogged about the things I wore, it would not be the thing for me. I find I am Always wearing the same handful of clothing items. I am going to spend the month of February trying to pay attention to the clothes I usually neglect (but still love enough to not send to the thrift store).

Today I am copying your two tights + knee socks + boots method, in order to stay warm and wear something different on this snowy day. I can't believe I ever doubted the greatness of wearing two pairs of tights at the same time!

Sara K.S. Hanks said...

You're already wearing leggings! IT'S STARTING! =) Oh, or are those tights?

Great way to start the 30. I love your delicate-yet-structured shirt and the messy bun.

Love this look - you definitely are my inspiration when it comes to dressing up for everyday winter looks!! :)

I'm with you - I've always loved and worn clogs...now thanks to you, love bean boots too. Great simple & sleek start to the remix. Stay warm.

BiblioMOMia said...

You look so adorable! My mom instilled the same love of Bean boots in me. The socks look adorable peeking out of them. And I was an IDIOT and didn't choose mine for my 30...which I regretted the second I tried to walk across the skating rink that was my sidewalk. Yikes. I might have to transfer something...

be safe in the blizzard! you look adorable. :)

I decided that winter boots count as outerwear, so they're a freebie in the 30x30. You look cute, and ready to fight the snow.

The Suburb Experiment said...

It doesn't get snowy here enough to justify serious snow boots but I'm with you on the clogs!! You look cute and I love when you wear that blouse because I have the same one and I get new ideas (that will have to wait since it's not in my 30 for 30)

I love the boots. They remind of the boots I had a kid that were super warm. Stay warm in all the snow!

I love these boots! I had a pair in middle school that I wore reliously through the winter(and I know I just dated myself...oops). The mix of the femine with the rugged boots is perfect!

I pondered and pondered about what makes those boots work with the skirt...and then I figured out that their soles actually match the skirt perfectly. Devil's in the details!

I really love the color combination you have here, and the boots totally make the outfit.

I love those boots. I am so tempted to get some sort of boot, but I just can't pull the trigger. Great first look! I can't wait to see what else you have in store.

I love your bean boots! You make them look so chic and are really making me want a pair!

I also love it when you wear your clogs. I too have Danskos and used to wear them all the time, but now that I wear mostly skinny pants they have been relegated to the back of the closet. You have inspired me to find a way to make them work with my current wardrobe. Thanks! A.

I can't get over how chic and stylish you make your L.L. Bean boots! Great color combo, too.

Great start! And I totally think your Bean boots look way better with that outfit than heels ever would!

Love how you style those boots! Fanny packs are actually back for spring/summer 2011, but they are cleverly calling them 'belt purses' instead.

If my snow boots were that cute I would wear them everywhere.

I'm so confused by this "winter" 30 for 30! I was hoping to see some real practical winter outfits! Save for the boots, you could wear this outfit in the summer! I dress warmer in Southern California!

p.s. you are, for all intensive purposes, wearing leggings! ;-)

What Would a Nerd Wear said...

well, i'm wearing wool TIGHTS, a wool cardigan, and a wool skirt...i don't know what more "winter" i can give you (not that i'm here to dress for anyone but myself) so maybe you should go leave your condescending comments on someone else's blog :)

awesome boots! But aren't your legs cold?

I kind of wish that I had a pair of LL Bean boots instead of my sorel duck boots because mine are a little chunky. Good thing they were part of your 30...although i think given the weather conditions, the boots could have been overlooked.

Allison said...

Ugh we are getting ready for this snowstorm in Western, NY too! Love the cheery colors of your outfit and the bean boots. To me it's definitely a practical winter outfit (with a coat of course! :)

At first, I thought you were braving winter by wearing a sleeveless shirt! But thank goodness for cardigans! Love the skirt's color!

Love love love this outfit! Reminds me of some of the J Crew winter looks I loved w/ similar boots. I need to invest in a pair!

I am obsessed with my bean boots...we never get snow here in Tennessee, but they were so useful this winter. And they will never go out of style. :)

I love this skirt. It's so understated but so fun. Reason no. 17 I wish I lived below the border: j. crew. My jealousy knows no bounds.

Lin said...

Sorry! Going back it did not come across as I had intended. You do look ADORABLE! I'm sorry my criticism was not constructive :-(

What Would a Nerd Wear said...

@lin--it's okay, sorry i was such a crank in response (having kind of a bad day)! just so you know, i wear a humongous coat that goes to my knees and a big scarf every day, i just don't photograph them because they'd get super boring, plus i take them off when i'm in my overheated office.
sorry for my crankiness! hugs to you.

I don't think many people could pull off those Bean boots quite like you can!!
You look super adorable tho!!

Haha... your fanny pack reference cracks me up! Since I'm doing the challenge for my travel blog, packing items were on my mind and I quickly jumped to a fanny pack like in the early 80's when my family would go to disneyworld. too funny!

You look great- love the color combo!

i LOVE your layering! ...and i definitely want to steal your idea of putting socks over the tights. i just started my first 30 for 30 challenge, so i'm excited to follow your blog and a few others to keep the ideas rolling!

I wouldn't have paired those boots with that outfit, but I actually really like how it turned out. Probably a very good thing you added these to your items. Winter weather is really sucking in the Midwest at the moment.

I kind of love leggings - is that bad? I don't wear them as pants or anything, but under tunics or skirts or dresses, I think they're awesome. I never wear fanny packs though :)

great outfit! diggin' the belt and boots! and props for bearing the cold to take the photo! =)

I think what makes this absolutely awesome is that the "utility" vibe coming from the boots is picked up, inexplicably, from the tuxedo pintucks in the shirt. I don't know why; people in tuxedos rarely do utilitarian things. Maybe it's just both add some interest in texture. Anyway, I love it. I love that the cardigan and the skirt are about the same length, I love the matchiness in the belt and boots (Maybe it's the belt that mirrors the utility? It's fulfilling its purpose twice over!), and I love the winter white with the creamy cafe au lait cardi and cocoa tights. And as a fellow grad student/college teacher, can I say three cheers for wearing the boots to class? I used to bring flats to change into and have largely given up.

P.S. I'm one of those longtime-lurkers first-time posters. I didn't mean to write a J. Peterman-length comment as my first. But it's the cute outfit's fault, not mine. I swear.
