For the first time in about a year, I'm just too cold to venture outside for photos today, given the snow everywhere and the wind chill factor, so these photos are in my natural habitat in the winter--my study. Christopher and I are lucky enough to each have our own offices in our little house (thank you rock-bottom midwestern real estate prices). I can't imagine why Christopher didn't want the study that's painted pepto-bismol pink, but it's my cheerfully-colored gain. I'm camping out here for the rest of our snow day, at least until the afternoon, when we're planning on trying to make a snow hippopotamus. Not a snow man, a snow hippo. Christopher swears he has a game-plan for trying to build it, so we'll see how it goes :)

I'm a bike-riding bookworm in DC trying to make better use of a sometimes-vanilla closet. You can read a little more about this blog

NICE! (the snow hippo) I made a giant snow moose once. it took hours...
and dang, yeah it IS cold inside. it is cold everywhere. :/
I adore when you wear your bean boots. They're so chunky and protective and adorable, and they make your whole self look all iiiitttty bitty (but you look itty bitty all the time, anyway). I've been wearing my hair in a side braid, often, lately. It's easy and super fun.
Jealous of the snow. It's 70 here, today. boo.
i love your little office and these indoor pics are great! i'm loving the side braid and how you paired the mustard cardi with the gingham. and i'm also a big fan of the pepto-bismol pink. :)

Love the outfit and the plans for a snow hippo... PLEASE share pictures!

i expect you will be snapping photos of this hippo? i sure hope so, it sounds interesting!
I've wanted those boots for so long and see how cute they are on you isn't helping. I know what you are talking about being cold even inside. double layered head to toe! Props for climbing into real clothes on a snow day! good luck with the hippo!
Still loving the gingham shirt each and every time I see. Have fun building your hippo. And Please take pictures of the end result, for posterity of course.
Please give us tons of pictures of the snow hippo!! :)
And I am in love with your study - books and books and more books - it's my dream environment!!
And I love the bright pop of yellow! SOOO fun and perfect way to counteract a blizzard in my opinion! :)
Your office is luxury--even with the pink walls! It didn't snow in the Twin Cities, but it's still cold thanks to the pressure systems. You look great for a day of studying!
I wanna see some pictures of that snow hippo :D
ain't no shame in an indoor snap, especially when your backdrop is tons of books! :)
i'm really cold in my house too. i love the button up and cardigan together. i will have to try something similar :)
Hi Tania, love your blog and your style! Those Gap skinnies look fantastic. Good luck with your 30 for 30...you're a stronger woman than I!
Is it weird that when I see the combo of plaid + boots + nice cardigan that I think lumberjack chic?! :-) Super cute, and I LOVE the blues and yellow together! Have you ever seen the Calvin and Hobbes snowman cartoons? Those are ridiculously fun to make! http://www.angelfire.com/wa/zzaran/calvin.html (my favorite has always been the snowman with the ice cream scoop in the back...)
I love your office, it's so you! And a snow hippo sounds like so much fun! Post pictures and let us know the game plan, maybe I can make a sand hippo here in CA!
I *love* the idea of a snow hippo, and I am also loving the blue gingham and yellow combo. Tres chic.

I think that's the difference between your man and my man: while both would think "Snow Hippo," yours actually creates a game plan!
I love seeing pictures insides people's homes, especially their offices. Sure, indoor lighting isn't as good, but I think the space in which people live is a fascinating space that tells so much about them! My office is very white walled, and I find I just can't get comfortable in it: it needs the coziness of paint - even pepto-bismal paint!
(Check out a Cat of a Different Colour today, Andi's talking about offices too!!)
ah! indoor photos! love your backdrop for sure. I think we have the same bookshelves. I esp. love how you're standing next to a book on postmodernism. you're such a quintessential nerd. =)) I mean that in ALL the best ways of course.
and the outfit is as darling as ever. you really have taken bean boots to a whole new level!

Surely Sonsy
p.s. bob is going to do a guest post for me where he's rockin' out his own bean boots, esquire man style...
I think you were smart to stay inside for photos. It is fun to see your office!
A snow hippo, I love it. I do hope you share photos.
I am loving this JCrew buffalo plaid shirt. I want the grey one so badly but, alas, it is sold out on the website. It seems so versatile and your's looks stunning against the mustard cardi.
I'm definitely jealous of your dual-study house. :( We have a spare bedroom and an office where the giant L-shaped desk takes up 85% of the room.

Your office is actually a great back drop. It would look really cool with certain outfits. It must be nice to have separate offices. I bet it's easier to focus on your work.
My Heart Blogged
It is so fun seeing the sow boots worked into actual outfits instead of just doing their job. And I love the jeans tucked into them!
i love the pairing of the button-up and sweater!! the colors are so great!
stay warm! :)
I can't imagine the terrible cold the other half of the country is experiencing. Over here on the West coast it is a balmy 30-50 degrees lately. And I'm no complaining. (: Stay warm! We need to see more fashion from you, lady.
I made a snow tiger as a kid, and even used orange gatorade to give him stripes! What a fun thing to do on a snow day. And cheery, sunny colors to wear--whenever I see blue and yellow together, I think of sunshine and clouds. Which is perhaps wishful thinking, but it helps!
I love the cheery combination of the yellow cardigan and the gingham shirt! I am wearing a similar cardigan today too - it's perfect for grey days like today!
I love your pink study - it looks more like a burgundy on my monitor...
And you're making me wish I had more mustard in my wardrobe again! I love this with the gingham.
I love your outfits and the skirt you made in the lesson plans. I had to join your blog! Have fun with the 30 for 30!
Dang I want that checked J.Crew top - it's sold out (plus kinda expensive), I'll have to search the webs today and see if there is anything similar out there.
I wish I could zoom in on the picture, dying to know what books you have!! :)
P.S. You are my faavorite fashion blog I follow. :)
aw, bethany that is SO sweet!!! thank you!!
I can't believe it's that cold out! You poor thing! At least you added your bean boots to your 30! I almost feel mean telling you it's 50 today...
I've been reduced to doing most of my photos inside too - also against a wall of books. Love the mustard cardigan, stay warm!

I love how that mustard yellow pops against the red walls!

our sidewalks have a casing of about 14 inches around them. it is pretty crazy. i ventured out for a short moment to tell my brother something while he was snow blowing. chilled to the bone. that is what this weather does to you.
I am very envious of your study and the amazing bookcase you've got. Someday, I'm going to have one of those...but for now, I consider myself extremely lucky to be able to fit a desk AND several bookcases in my bedroom. Take that, ridiculously expensive NYC real estate prices!
I love the indoor pics. I had this same outfit on in my last 30x30 remixing, minus the boots, so naturally, I love the look. And take pictures of the snow hippo please, won't believe it till i see it!

I wanna see the snow hippo!
I am so jealous of your cute office! The walls are beautiful! I want more color in my apartment, but alas... I will have to have white walls.
I'll try the cardigan over the plaid shirt look for the 30 for 30! I tried to layer a button down for the first time ever yesterday and couldn't figure out how to wear a sweater over it. This looks like a great way to do it!
i wish i had a study! gosh! love the overall color in this pic! its just what the doctor ordered for my grey habitat over here on the east coast :)

We are wearing the SAME outfit today. I am not kidding.
Snow hippos are awesome. I love this outfit.
One of my life dreams is to have a library in my house. Looks like you're on your way with the study!

aw your study looks so cozy!! perfect place to huddle up during a snow day!

Love your cozy indoor outfit. I'm jealous of how awesome-looking your study is -- I love overstuffed bookcases and wooden shelves.
Pepto or no pepto, that study is gorgeous. I'm very jealous that you call it yours. Also insanely envious that I don't own a gingham shirt! You style it so beautifully, no matter what you pair it with!
Finding Fashionista Friends
I love that shirt with this cardi :)
I am really hoping for some photographic evidence of the icy hippotamus :D
Snow hippo! That sounds excellent. I live in Australia, so I've never made a snow-anything!
Love your outfit - it looks warm and cozy and the colour combination reminds me of a bright summer morning! :)
I tagged you! http://rachieann.com/wp/2011/02/day-2-and-a-meme/
so cute- i love the duck boots. and of course the cardi
i'm loving the peek of your study!
i was just reminded of stefon on snl- "glimpse into seth myers!" except i'm saying..."glimpse into tania!"
you look adorable as always :)
Cute! I love the yellow sweater with that shirt. I wore one of my yellow cardigans yesterday. It's such a great color :)
Oh yes! I love the mustard cardigan and the blue shirt together. Such a fab look!
Much love,
Hannie - http://teaandbiscuits13.blogspot.com

forget about the outfit, i am oogling all of your books! omg!
Oh my goodness, I LOVE the yellow with the blue plaid! I usually don't like those colors together, but you may have just changed my mind :) Very cute.

I wore a mustard Cardigan today too! I don't blame you for not facing the wind. It's brutal.

I was browsing through the colleagues links on Academic Chic and stumbled across your blog.
I love this outfit so much- it is so cheery!! I have a similar blue checkered shirt and similar mustard cardigan and I have to tell you I might be stealing this look from you in the near future to brighten up cold winter days. I feel like I reach for the gray immediately during winter.
I also like your style a lot- I also like to layer and rock out my winter boots!
http://dress-like-a-librarian.blogspot.com/
I like the color of the walls.
I love the inside of your house! So many books, it makes me smile :)
Oooooo, I love your pink study!
I don't blame you for staying inside especially with a cozy place like that to hang.
Leaving the House in THIS?!?!
It was definitely too cold to go outside in certain states. Your outfit is still cute and the mustard yellow brightens the location! Happy 30 for 30!!
I really enjoy your consistently outdoor photos, but I'm loving this background! Books, all those glorious books! :) I'd be interested in more indoor pics. I really like that button-down. I passed up a similar red one and I'm wishing I hadn't.
Better Than a Milk Mustache
Goodness, could you be any more tall??
Ahem. I'm with the rest of the commenters - I love the occasional indoor photo shoot, it's fun to get a little glimpse of the way you live. Of course it helps that your study complements your outfit just perfectly :)
the other emily
Snow hippo. I love it.
Ramblings of a Small Town Girl
Love the outfit. I'm doint the challenge too, so much fun.
I soooo want to see the snow hippos lol
i am totally cold inside too, especially the basement!! i love the yellow and blue!!
You are absolutely adorable! I love your mustard colored cardigan...and DUCK BOOTS ARE MY FAVORITE! I have a skimmer pair and a brown a pink plaid pair from Sperry Topsider, that have fleece inside them. Very stylish and practical! But love this post, and the fact you are posing in front of your well established book shelf :) perfect! Stay Warm!
I seriously neeed to see the pictures that go along with the snow hippo.
It sounds pretty epic!!
Super cute outfit. Still loving the boots.

Today was far too cold for outfit photos, for sure! I'm loving the boots (still) and the mustard cardi. I included mine but for some reason just don't know how to wear it.
Oooh I love your background! These pics actually turned out to be well-lit and really nice. Cute outfit!
Where did you get your sweet bookshelves? My husband and I have filled the nice ones we have in our (ONE -- you lucky ducks!) office, and need at least as much space as you've shown there still. How to get sturdy shelves without breaking the bank? Though you might have a tip.
Also, do you have the shelves labeled there? How nerdy! (And, of course, I love it and wish I had mine labeled.)

I love Your little office is really a great back drop. It would look really cool with red color paint. It must be very nice to have separate offices. I am sure it's easier to focus on your work.Very nice
