Just keeping it simple--I don't teach until tomorrow so a cozy sweater, scarf, and boots were an easy choice for a day of making last minute revisions to my syllabus and prepping my first few lessons (on Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray, which I'm very excited to teach). As much as I love piling on the layers in winter, sometimes it's easier to just throw on a few simple pieces. I was reminded of this reading the other emily, who dresses in such sophisticated and understated ways (of course, this outfit of hers reminded me to break out this sweater again).

I'm a bike-riding bookworm in DC trying to make better use of a sometimes-vanilla closet. You can read a little more about this blog

Great boots!
Aw shucks, Tania! I've never been called sophisticated before :)
And I'm happy to have inspired you to break out that lovely sweater again - that cream color looks great with the rich scarf.
the other emily
Gorgeous. As usual!
I love the sweater - and good luck with the new semester of teaching (I'm sort of envious, I miss teaching).

I love that scarf! And I also love when you make blog recommendations, because I almost always end up following them too- the other emily is great!
Love this combo. Totally inspiring but doable in my own way. Good luck at class!
You are totally looking all kinds of cool boho-chic today! When I was a kid we had a cat named Dorian Gray (who was gray) and I never thought anything of it till I read the book in high school... my mom is a fellow nerd!
Such a pretty scarf. You look lovely.

I have a magnet on my refrigerator with a quote from Leonardo DaVinci that says, "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication." Of all the fashion bloggers that I read, you are my favorite!
I actually LOVE this outfit of yours. It's really flattering and effortlessly chic. It's funny how sometimes the most simple outfits turn the most heads! xo

I love the simplicity yet easy chic feel to this! :D. Love the way you have the sweater half pulled up so it's asymmetrical.
keepin it simple until school starts. I like that idea
Just Better Together
Uneven hemlines are great...whether asymmetrical, high-low, etc. They just add character to a neutral piece and visual interest to an outfit. Love this sweater!

Cute outfit! The soft drape of the sweater is perfect for a cozy work day.
The picture of Dorian Grey would be such a fun book to teach - it's one of my all time favorites. I teach Greek and Roman literature, but sometimes would love to be able to pull in some newer classics!
Love the simple look Tania! And I love the pop of color that the scarf adds to the overall look!
LOve the scarf...need more colorful scarves over here! And those boots are presh! Mine have been glued to my feet for about a week!
I may say this each time you wear that scarf, but gah do I love it?!? To be honest, I haven't read Dorian Gray but perhaps I play faux student for a bit. I need a reason to pick up a new book.
I hate piling on the layers too, but I'm always so cold that it's a must. Love the way you did your scarf, how did you get it to stay?
beautiful scarf!
i just realized that we're very likely at the same uni... and i did my undergrad degree and my phd minor in your department. small world! :)
Ah! You look so comfy!
I love this look. That sweater really makes it more interesting. And you paired it with the perfect accessories.
Those trees make a perfect backdrop for you.
