Last week I did a little guest post for the sweet, soon-to-be-a-grad-student Nina on my grad student wardrobe essentials. I hope it can be helpful to those of you who are also soon-to-be or someday-will-be heading for a post graduate program. xo

I'm a bike-riding bookworm in DC trying to make better use of a sometimes-vanilla closet. You can read a little more about this blog here.

cute outfit combo! i just finished grad school in may, so i can totally relate!
You look great! Maybe that red lipstick should be on the essentials list too :o)
Thank you for your comment on my blog, I'm so happy to be done!
I really like the outfit

definitely agree that cardigans are a grad student staple.
i just finished 3 years of grad school...and i now have 24+ cardigans. :)
I think these are great essentials, even if you're not a grad student. And the top knot is essential too, I love it when you wear your hair like that!

love this look!! definitely one of my favorite looks of yours and a great look for grad school students; however, many times my daily looks for grad school were far less glamorous than this!
Love it! Great tips!
I found in my first year of grad school that I was always looking for something to make me look older. I don't teach, but I do train faculty and staff on the university software (like Blackboard. It helps to not look like one of their students ;)
Gorgeous cardigan, really brings the outfit together!

These are great essentials for any wardrobe! Throw in a sun dress, and I'd be set!
These essentials are great even for an undergrad ;) I just got a mustard cardigan yesterday and I am so excited to wear it! It's definitely an essential piece!

Grad student or no grad student, these are essentials for every stylish lady! I love this classic look, and that red lip :)
Yep thats my outfit pretty much everyday! I wear my ballet flats more often here in Georgia though, but recent "cold" weather has me pulling on my boots!
HA this is so hilarious. I am also a grad student, and this is totally my everyday uniform. Sigh.
i just found your blog! i'm a graduate student in english as well, and i'm always struggling with what to wear when i teach and want to look fashionable as well as teacherly.
you've got the boots and cardigan down, for me. you've inspired me to wear a red lip more, too!
awesome blog. you're one of my new favorites!

La Rizada!
I love the outfit! I am looking for a good flat boot like that, what brand is yours? Thanks!

i always wore blazers in grad school because i look young and i felt more authoritative in them (i was also trying to combat the onslaught of sweatpants and flip flops/uggs that proliferated campus). also, penny loafers, of course. always and forever. :)
Hello there,
I really enjoyed your blog, beautiful and fun pictures.
Please come and have a look at my fashion blog PRETTY PORTOBELLO
Hope to see you soon.
This style is so very much you!
A lot of fashion blogs inspire me, but I have to say I feel a huge kindred spirit to you/this blog (hope that's not creepy) because as a graduate student as well, it's hard to motivate myself past jeans and a sweatshirt because I'm not at a "real" job yet and it's pretty much completely acceptable to be that casual! I love your outfits.. just enough color and accessories but also still simple enough to fit so perfectly into an academic setting (let's be honest, I only want to stand out a certain amount for my style, but more for my work!).
This guide was fantastic! Now I need to go do Kendi's closet purging and add some of these items on to my shopping needs list :)
As an undergraduate student, I always look up to the grad students who facilitate some of our classes... for both their smarts and their style! I just recently came across your blog and I think it's adorable, very inspiring for university students of all phases!

I love this! It's oddly similar to what my "med student wardrobe" looks like ;)
Love!!!
As a grad student myself, I've now been inspired to ditch my hoodies and sweat pants for that outfit
I know this is an older post, but one thing I might add (advice that I have not taken myself) would be to get a nicer bag and ditch the backpack. I'm still using my jansport from high school as I finish my first year of grad school, but I know I desperately need to upgrade to something leather and handsome.
