How Many Layers Does it Take to Get to the Center of a Blogger?

The midwest was finally blessed with the big snowstorm that's been blowing around the country and I woke up to several inches of snow, which gave me the opportunity to style my bean boots, which I dearly love and will wear till I'm 100. This outfit was partially inspired by this photo, but Tania-fied by a slightly longer skirt, duck boots, and Christopher's green wool hat (hey, it's cold out there). Besides the snow, it's been quiet around here; school doesn't start for another week and I'm taking advantage of the lull and reading as much as I can for my exams which are (gulp!) rapidly approaching. I'm kind of excited for teaching to start again because it means a solid excuse to dress up in the morning :)

LOVE, love, LOVE this, Tania! The tights + Christopher's hat make me so happy. And your duck boots + a lace skirt, forget about it. You look awesome. And even with a mini on, you look WARM!

Hey lady where are your tights from? I've been searching for the perfect olive green pair.

I'm with Fashion Momma. You rock the duck boots and all the rest. Love that skirt you all are wearing...wish I could find it here, but alas no Target.

Eeee, exams! Good luck good luck good luck! From one nerd to another :-)

(And those green tights! I'm sort of on a shopping ban this month, just to help myself get centered again after the madness of the holidays, but I really love the way your tights look and hope to shamelessly copycat your style. Hee hee!)

I love this outfit, and I really like how all the tops are the same "tone", it makes the bottoms stand out that much more.

I love your use of color. I have a great chambray-ish shirt that would look great layered! This is me forewarning you that I will probably copycat you. I mean, you inspire me. Yeah. That's it.

Duckboots plus lace skirt equals happiness!

I am looking at buying some boots like that... are yours Gore-tex lined, or are they just the standard from L.L. Bean? I'm trying to decide if the Gore-tex is worth the extra $50.
Love the mixing of practical and feminine, by the way (not that those are mutually exclusive categories...)

I like the layering.

I wish we got more snow in Evanston - we only got several inches. I'm jealous of my east-coast family and friends that got feet!

Love the juxtaposition (10 points for me!!!) of the ultra feminine lace skirt and rough hat & boots.

You look stylish and warm! Enjoy the snow.

I love how you paired this skirt. I love that so many of us have it but we style itso differently. Proves how we're all unique in style.

You rock it better than the inspiration pic.
Who would have thought a lace skirt and wool socks could look so cute together ?!
We got 15cm last night...finally. It always seems like everywhere in Canada is always buried in snow but in this strange little corner it always escapes us ! Maybe I can pull off something similar for tomorrow's outfit :)

I'm jealous that you're still on break. My university is in our second week back! Also, I love the outfit! Wool socks go with everything.

You look great! I was just admiring that skirt on someone else the other day too, I totally think I need a gray skirt like it for my wardrobe! Enjoy the time off before school starts back up!

It is all about the layering baby. You manage to layer without looking bulky which is admirable. Yesterday, I wore leggings under tights, knee socks with boots, and Smartwool socks over all my layers (under the boots). I had quite the cankles!
You however, look polished and fresh!
Enjoy the snow!

Yes, we got snow-stormed as well, and that makes me jealous of your (cute, but snow-loving) boots! I love your layers!

I think you've definitely made this combo even cuter than your inspiration photo. The olive color and subtle texture of your tights looks amazing with the lavender lace skirt, and I am super impressed with your layering-without-looking-bulky skills on top. Now you've got me hurting for the chambray shirt I left in the states - what a big mistake!

Nothing gives me pangs of heartache like the duckboots though - my (otherwise incredibly great) boyfriend threw one of my bean boots out when we were moving last month! He meant to toss his own (ancient, leaky) pair, but instead he grabbed one of each of ours from the hall closet! Ah well, I suppose it provides me an excellent excuse to pick up a new pair next winter :)

I'm in love with that sweater. The tweedy color just makes it look that much warmer! Do you know the brand or where it was purchased?

This outfit is awesome! I'm in awe of how you made a lacy skirt and those duck boots look so great together! LOVE IT!

Oy, I'm a grad student in upstate NY and have spent the past three years fighting an annual battle to find the functional-but-not-also-ugly-boot (and ultimately being defeated EVERY YEAR, either walking about with cold cold toes or giving in to the atrocious Undergrad Uggs in public). But I think your re-purposing of the bean boots for reasonable fashion is perfect! Love it, need it, gotta go find it...thanks!
