Because I do a lot of my work from home or coffeeshops, I'm always on the lookout for casual outfits that will be sophisticated but also comfortable. Lately, I've been inspired by S. from academichic, who is a master of color-mixing and pairs black pants and boots to great effect. Also in my inspiration folder was this outfit of Kendi's. If you're a copy cat, it's exceptionally easy to get dressed--I paired the simple layering effect of rolled up sleeves and sweater, along with black skinnies tucked into boots.
P.S. I'm getting excited for the new 30 for 30! I've picked my pieces, which I'll post Monday afternoon...I can't wait!

Would it be weird if I said you were totally overflowing with sophistication? You look casual and chic. Those boots are to die for!

I made this necklace the first time you posted it and got a ton of compliments! I am now also deeply in love w/P.S. I Made This!! Did I need more crack? Did I??? LOL Some of my best outfits have come from eye-opening fashion blogs. OOH! Elaine posted your scarf tutorial a while back? Two scarves changed my scarf life! HEAVEN!!!

So lovely. That color tee looks great on you. Soft pink is one of my favorites (and the only shade of pink I feel comfortable in!).

I read through quite a lot of your archives last night. Casual, sophisticated chic is the name of my game, too, and I *love* that your looks help me translate that in a way that keeps things youthful and fresh (of course, at 35, not *as* youthful and fresh as you might be, but still). I'm also inspired by how you keep your look consistent, even when playing around with lobsters and bright colors :) You look effortlessly beautiful. Truly.

And, can I just say that I *love* your eyebrows. They are absolutely perfect. When I was raving about your natural, casual chicness last night, my hubby said your eyebrows looked liked Kate Winslett's ;)

You look so great with tucked in shirts, such a pretty waistline you have! I love the contrasting belt, it adds something a black belt just couldn't!

Hey, thanks for the shout out! I'm so flattered that you were inspired by moi :) I love this look, the colors are so soothing and that necklace is awesome. Just reading through the previous comments, I see that some readers said they made a necklace like that after you first posted it...did I miss a tutorial for it? I would love to see a close-up and know how you made it! I want to copy that!

I love the black-pants-in-boots look. It's a refreshing change from jeans-in-boots. I must steal now :)

that cardi looks so comfy! Why is that whenever I try to look chic/comfy, i always end up not looking as fab as you? :D must keep this look for future reference.

I just found your blog, and just wanted to say that I love your style! When I was in grad school, I was a fashion disaster, so I applaud your not being one. I work at a university now, and am trying to shape up from my ugly sweater/ill-fitting jeans days. I love this outfit - it looks warm, comfy, and cute.

I love love love your style. I use yours as an inspiration all the time. (I also never comment on blogs but am trying to break out of my shyness rut and say something nice to all the blogs on which I lurk.) Also, you go to grad school at my alma mater (I think, based on the photos) and every time I see a photo of yours it's like I'm thrown back in time (far, far back in time) to my undergrad days--the near daily reminiscence is wonderful.
