I know there's nothing less exciting than the weather but it's the primary influence on what I wear so you'll have to hear for the hundredth time what the temperature was today: NEGATIVE 11!! I was anxious about getting frostbitten so I went for warmth over anything else--cozy turtleneck, jeans, and my super-awesome danksos (don't make fun, they were on the Sartorialist). I'm also wearing an awkward-looking suit of long underwear under everything. It's not glamorous, but it's what I wore in real life, and that's the point of a real-person style blog, right? To show what I wore on the days when it's so cold my nose just might fall off and I stop caring about looking really fabulous because I'm too busy worrying about whether I'm going to be found, come spring's thaw, frozen solid somewhere between the library and my car.

Ha, ever since I saw that Sartorialist posting of Danskos I've felt like I have license to wear mine more often. And who look pretty cute for being so darn cold! I cannot fathom being that cold! Yikes.

Also, I love Jeremy's. I got my wedding dress (also J.Crew) from the one on College.

Those pants fit your perfectly! And that's a hard thing to find!
And, yes, I am a huge fan of the long underwear. You can stay warm and no one else knows how you are doing it!

I love this outfit, but I especially loved your writing in this post. On these cold days, I'm afraid of being a human icicle myself!

You look great. The outfit has good proportions, and the camel-colored coat is perfect. I appreciate seeing real-person outfits. Everyday style can be inspirational, too.

Ohmygosh, I think I would die if it was -11 degrees in VA!! EEK! I would just crawl right back into bed!

LOVE this look - the navy/black combo is awesome!!

love this look on you! the color of that scarf is amazing - as is the coat.

I feel your pain, as that's a fairly normal winter temperature here in Waterloo. Sadly some rumours about Canada are true, though it's never the cool ones like riding polar bears to school. And yet despite the chilling winds and low temperatures and abundance of both snow and slush I had the audacity to be outside in bare feet and Birks today. Sometimes I impress myself.
I love your outfit though. Most days I get lazy and throw sweat pants over my PJ bottoms before running to 8:30 class. I'm a classy babe, that's for sure.

Love the look on your. The coat is gorgeous!

Those trouser jeans look AMAZING on you! I love them! I hate dressing for the cold, it's so hard to look cute when you're all bundled up, but you do it so perfectly!

You look super classy in this outfit...sort of like "ladies who lunch" thing going on here. I'm in love with trouser jeans right now. I've had a pair for years and I'm so happy they're becoming a big trend this season!

Danksos are the bestest! Much more stylish (maybe not as comfy) as crocs!

love your dansko's - i have a pair that is super duper old and ever since The Sartorialist featured them recently, i too have been wanting to pull mine out. I might have to! stay warm, it's super-dee-duper cold here too!

I love that I was just thinking about how a set of long johns would be so nice today and here it is on your style post. Thanks for the honesty and I love the color of that scarf.

What is Jeremy's? I third the Danskos love- I work in a hospital, so I'm glad to see a fashionista validating my uniform shoes :)

I'm jealous! When it's negative here, I end up looking like a barrel to keep warm! It must've been REALLY cold taking pictures out there x.x

I love that you showed what you actually wore in the freezing cold! I wouldn't brave outdoor pictures in this weather. I give you a virtual high five. It was -27 this morning. Jealous?

I totally understand; I talk about the weather all the time as well. Though, I'm usually talking about how hot it is. Like right now, too darn hot. The scarf looks great though! x

You don't have to be glamourous to look sophisticated :) I love the two shades of blue with the camel coat. Nicely done!

i wish danskos didnt get such a bad fashion wrap. i kinda think theyre almost iconic. simple, comfortable, good quality, unique style that everyone knows as dansko. theyre fashionable in their own sort of classic work wear way. [say that ten times fast!] although, as a nurse who is somewhat attached to all the things her danskos have been through with her over the years, i may be a little biased.

You really look smashing here. This is something you can wear now and in 20 years and still look great.

Love those jeans - I didn't know they were jeans when I first saw the pictures. Looking at you, I would never guess that it was -11.

Just BRRRRRR. I am not envious, that would totally suck. It's good you pulled out the long underwear, otherwise I would think you'd still be cold in just a long sleeves and a coat!

Those jeans look amazing on you! They're a different look for you (I'm used to the skinny jeans/tights). :) You rock 'em!

Thank you for another excuse to wear the Danskos! I'm a dental student and they're so practical for things like standing on your feet all day and preventing a dropped scalpel from slicing off a toe - but alas like many practical things, my fiance always thought they were quite hideous. I sent him to the link to the Sartorialist right away! They're fashion!

Never apologize for looking fabulous! P.S. I adore that camelhair coat.

You have the best scarf collection :-) But hoo boy, those crazy winter temperatures make me feel chilled just hearing about them! If anyone needs a warm-up, I have a spare room here in Texas.

I feel like inclement weather is probably my greatest foe in getting dressed - I need to just move to Southern California already.

Freezing temperatures aside, I love this outfit - those awesome trouser jeans paired with the camel coat make for a very ladylike and grown-up (in a good way) look. I think the clogs are super-cute too, especially with the dark denim.

Love how that scarf pops against the all black outfit, very chic. You found it off the street, really??? Great coat, too.

I also rock my paisley Danskos- there's no shame here! They are so comfortable and add height too!

Girl! That Satorialist post gave me the confidence to dust off those clogs as well and wear them shame free. In my opinion these shoes are THE BEST for cold weather strolling. And who knows? Maybe the Satorialist will stop us on the street sometime :)
