Today, my NYE sequins looked up at my out of my suitcase and said, "Why do you only wear me at night? We'd like to see the sun, too." So I humored them and wore them with cords and a worn-in belt to make them more casual. It didn't really work, considering how many comments and looks I got today while the sequined shirt and I went to Target, the grocery store, and the coffee shop. I guess other people's sequins don't speak to them as persuasively as mine do. That, or others are a little ashamed of their sequins--they can only bring them out when it's dark?

The stares are admiration!! Enjoy! Because the shirt looks great just like that. I think its warm color helps move it toward casual, particularly when paired with your boots.
As my boyfriend says to me over and over, the fact that people stare is GOOD. It's when they stop looking at you that's the problem. :)
Who says daytime can't be glamourous and sequin-filled? This looks great and probably makes running errands more exciting... right?

I really like it, but I know what you mean. I have a grey sequin sweater and I always feel weird pulling it out during the day.
I have a sequin top that I also feel sort of odd about wearing during the day but I love how you've dressed yours down and made it day-appropriate.

I've always been vehemently anti-sequin but this is surprisingly darling. It works so well without being too HEY LOOK AT THESE SEQUINS. Many congratuwelldones on this.

It's true, people aren't used to sequins in the day. But I think the colour of the sequin top can definitely work for day. This outfit is very J. Crew. I see outfits like this in the catalogue all of the time!

First of all, the sequins calling your name is too funny. I adore this look. I don't recall any rules where sequins can only be worn at night, you're pulling them off wonderfully.
Sequins are allowed at anytime as long as you don't over accessorize them during daylight, think you outfit looks adorable ;)

Well, it works for me! I absolutely ADORE this outfit. I love outfits that mix textures - the cord and sequins look amazing together! I wish we had J Crew in New Zealand.

i think it totally works! i wore sequins to church a few weeks ago and i got many a look. and i decided that some people are meant to be sheep whilst some are meant to be peacocks(even though male peacocks are the flashy ones and the females are drab brown).

No, wear it during the day! I have that tank in the grey color and wear it during the day and to work, as a middle school teacher. It is in fact how I secured a silver sequin scarf as a gift from one of my students.

Every time I've worn sequins to work people tell me I'm super dressed up like I'm going out for nye. Which is funny because I usually wear more fancy dresses than my simple sequin top. Oh well. I'm all for sequins during the day.

First off, I love the sequined shirt, and have been looking for one myself.
Second, I don't mean to be rude, but I thought you were on a "grad student budget"? I saw that tank at J Crew and the cheapest version they had was $98.. I, myself, can't imagine paying that much on my undergrad budget, much less a grad student budget.
@anon--while i feel under no obligation to justify how i save and spend my money or what my budget looks like, this shirt was in the j. crew store (not online) discounted from $78 to under $15.
I love seeing how sequins can be dressed down for day wear. Thanks for the inspiration.

I think you look good! People stare all the time whenever I (or anyone I am with) is wearing something "different" .. it's not necessarily a bad thing. Maybe they are saving a mental picture for their next shopping trip so they can buy the same outfit! YOU LOOK GREAT :)
