When Christopher and I started dating, I had no idea that he is the best gift giver ever. Seriously, ever. The first summer we were dating, he built me a vintage three-speed bicycle from scratch just because; for birthday last year, he bought me local handmade hammered gold and silver earrings (my favorite; I'm wearing them in approximately half the photos on this blog); and for my birthday this year, he surprised me with a kindle so I could carry lots of books with me while I travel. Before I left for home, he gave me my Christmas present--this dress, which I have been admiring since I saw it in an Anthropologie over my birthday and told him how lovely I thought it was. I know this sounds mawkish, but I feel like I hit the jackpot with the most thoughtful boyfriend around. His pitch-perfect gifting skills are matched only by his day-to-day sweetness, affection and sense of humor, which are (seriously) the best gifts of all.

He did a wonderful job! It's beautiful! I tried it on today and almost got it, now I wish I had :)

Aw, that's so sweet. I think that day-to-day sweetness goes with good gift giving, all it takes really is a bit of listening, something that many boyfriends seem to have trouble with. (Not mine though! That sounded accusatory, but my boyfriend is super good too.)

This dress went on sale today, so if he got within two weeks, he could get a price adjustment.

The color was made for you. It looks fantastic on you.

I almost bought that dress for my Christmas dress! And seeing how lovely it looks, I almost wish I did. I say almost, because when I see you in it, I know it's meant for you, and I would have been a poor substitute inside it.

Christopher sounds like such a sweet boy. Totally approve, other than the fact that he doesn't seem to like necklaces. But that's an easy thing to fix. :)

Awh, that is so sweet. This post really made me smile! He does sound wonderful :) This dress is so gorgeous on you, and I wouldn't have thought to pair it with those colour tights but they look amazing together!

It sounds like almost nothing's sweeter than your guy who remembers something you mentioned earlier and turned that into a thoughtful and nice gift. :) I like how you paired it in a similar color scheme (almost autumn-esque!). Those boots are lovely.

Just found your blog today.. and I have to confess I've spent an ungodly amount of time lolling around and reading it. Thanks for inspiring another vanilla grad student to take a closer look at her wardrobe and step outside the comfy bounds of neutral.
P.S. Love the dress from the boy - he's a keeper :D

I have a man just like that too :)
Very, very thoughtful. Because we're both relatively penniless our gifts to each other are never very expensive but always full of love.

(That dress is beautiful by the way!)

That was SUCH a sweet post!!! I think you did very well picking yourself a nice gift-giving man. Chase isn't so good with presents because I never know what I want! Poor guy.

Yay, so cute! Excellent job, Christopher. Do you feel more pressure to give great gifts now too? I know I always get a little extra stressed when giving my bf gifts because he's so amazing at it. It's like a superpower. Merry Christmas!

Yeay for cuteness, love, and generosity. Sounds like you've got a winner. Also, that orange might be the perfect color for you. You look very 70s with the orange, the lovely long hair, and great boots! (This is the highest sort of decade oriented compliment from me, as I love the styles of the stagflation/oil crisis era).
