Catch-22

Catch-22

Catch-22

Works Cited
sweater: anthro
button-up: jeremy's
dress: loft
tights: j crew
shoes: target
snow: awesome

LB, who also has this striped anthro sweater, requested that I remix it again. It is a kind of tricky piece to remix in the winter, because it's cotton, but I figured if I layered it over a dress and button-up, I could keep warm and add a little oomph to the oft-worn loft dress. So here goes, LB, your wish is my command. Speaking of wishes, mine came true and it snowed. Can you tell I am elated? Growing up in California means that every time it snows, I get inappropriately euphoric and leap around in the street like gold is falling from the sky instead of frozen water. Although I hope I never grow out of my snow-love, I do worry that it's scaring the neighbors a little...

The sweater is totally adorable. And while I can tell it would look super cute in the summer over a sundress, you've made it shine even in the snow!

Yay for more Anthro cardi. I keep hoping it might get a second cut on the EU site as since you first wore it (day 2?) I've been coveting it. Not for £49.95 though.

I truly hate snow, it causes chaos in the UK as we don't get tonnes of it too often. It snowed last night, 5-6 inches where I live which to me is A LOT. Certainly enough to make me wish I had a tobogan rather than a car to get to work in....

wow... thanks!!! it IS a tricky piece, but it looks lovely paired with the dress! love the grey tights :)

I love your sweater!!! Is it bad that I could tell it was an Anthropologie sweater b4 I looked down? It's adorable!!

You got snow already?? Yeesh! I love snow when I don't have to drive in it & it's the light dusting! =) Have a good one!

You look great! I love these pictures, you look so happy about the snow! I'm kind of surprised you have snow before we do - you were still wearing bare legs long after I stopped, but it still hasn't snowed here. Booo.

love the yellow with the grey, I wouldn't even think to put them together normally, either! Cutie!

This is a very lovely look! It's nice to see somebody excited about snow... I'm a bit of a snow curmudgeon, but maybe that's what happens when you grow up with 5 months of winter :S

I love the beachy waves in your hair lately! I can see where that would be a bit of a tough sweater to remix, but this looks wonderful! I love the white shirt cuffed over the sleeves!

Your layering is so fantastic! I'm still waiting for our first snow fall here - supposedly my wish may be granted this weekend! Eek.

This is so cute! My sister moved to the Midwest and this will be her second winter there. She gets just as excited as you (we aren't from California, but Florida so we're not used to snow either!) and she called us to tell us about the first snow fall. I imagine it makes winter about 10x more exciting! :)

I also tend to get euphoric every time it snows, as growing up in Portland, it usually just rains from the end of November through the end of April.

We lived in Lithuania for a year, and there, I would get excited and need to go play in the snow every time it started snowing again, even though the last batch of snow hadn't melted, because I still had that instinct that if it snows, you'd better go play in it because it will be gone within hours.

This color combination is great, and I love the white cuffs rolled up over the cardigan sleeves.

Haha...as a fellow California girl moving to a very cold and snowy place, I totally understand! I can't wait to see snow falling out of my window :)

Adorable.
I have a question for you, something I have wondered for a while now. I teach 8th graders (and want to teach high schoolers), and being so young, I feel I need to dress more professionally than I normally would. I need to set myself apart from them, I need to be respected, and I need to be professional. Our jobs are different. You are both a student and a teacher, and generally, college professors can where whatever they want. They set the rules. Basically, you dress more casually then I do for teaching, which is not a criticism, and I have to be more careful about skirt length. So my question is, how does your job affect what you wear? Did it change when you started teaching?

I love your snow-induced exuberance! This is such an amazing color combination on you -- I'm a huge "grellowvy" fan, and I love how you've styled these items!

hey erin! i have an answer to that question, but it's a bit long for a comment--maybe you could ask on my formspring (http://www.formspring.me/nerdwear) because i think it's something other people would like to know, too! xo

You have some gorgeous locks there pretty lady! And I love this look-so simple, but with fun little details-very chic and cute!

I think it's funny that we both posted about loving snow, but for opposite reasons. For me, it's exactly because I DID grow up with it that I love it so much.

Anyway, I adore this outfit. The cardigan is fantastic, and I think you've transitioned it perfectly into colder weather!

Man, I love you in bright colors! You're such a pretty, joyous lady!
I wish it would snow here already. We typically only get a few inches a year, but two winters ago, it snowed about 4ft! I'm hoping for the same, just as long as it doesn't interfere with the little babe getting here.

I never comment but just wanted to tell you that I think you have really grown into your look this 30 for 30 - and I don't mean that in a patronising way at all, just that you are wearing consistently LOVELY outfits in a very individual style (that I occasionally shamelessly steal) :-)

Izabela said...

Lovely outfit but aren't you cold with those summer/spring shoes?

I love the bright pop of yellow with the other muted colors!! And how brave of you to go take outfit pictures in the snow!! BRRRR!!!! (says the girl with a heater on her feet at her desk right now)

I'm so jealous of the snow! You have such awesome layering skills though, as always.

Emily's Going Nuts said...

Wait... how come you went from gorgeous weather at the end of autumn to pretty snow, and I'm still getting clouds and rain? I'm from northern New England, this is not fair!

When it snowed in Seattle last week I sat in the window with the most ridiculous grin on my face for a good hour with people walking infront of the house trying to see what the heck I was doing out of their peripheral vision.

Gorgeous sweater - it goes perfectly with your aforementioned elation.

Lol @ gold is falling from the sky. I have a much less charitable feeling about snow. And how you take these pics without a coat? DEDICATION. I can do a version of this outfit myself! Woohoo! I love getting ideas from you guys. In that belted scarf pic how the heck do you and Sydney get the scarf to look so full!!!

no worries, snow IS golden. (i've lived in Wisconsin all my life and still can't get enough.)

ps - gave you a little linky today. <3 your style!! http://howlhandbags.blogspot.com/2010/12/christmas-wish-list.html

I'm so glad you remixed that sweater because it is lovely!

Ms_SyllyBee said...

you look lovely! that cardigan is fantastic, and you;re right, it can be tricky to work in the winter but you're rocking it.

there's something about the detailing that reminds me of nutcrackers, thus making it holiday appropriate! you should wear it with some winter white wide leg pants, make it nutcracker chic. haha

also jealous of your snow love. i am a midwestern girl currently residing in la but my love for snow has never stopped, unless of course, my car is buried underneath it and its way too cold to dig it out.

i wander, i wonder

The fun outfit is only topped by your enthusiasm for snow! Love it.

What Would a Nerd Wear said...

aw, sophie, thank you so much!! that is really sweet of you to say.
and @izabela and maura--i was okay with the shoes because i didn't have far to walk in them. if it was super snowy (i.e. more than just a sprinkling), i would definitely be wearing boots :)

I love the sweater paired with the grey. Very cute. I actually told my sister about your blog because she's currently getting her teachers degree and needed some teacher fashion inspiration. :)

Hello! I love this sweater and I would like to get your take on it. My local Anthro doesn't have it anymore so I can't try it it on. What size did you get? According to some reviews it runs small but other ones said it runs TTS.

Thank you :D
