I learned the hard way that a person needs to pack an extra pair of shoes on a rainy day. I'll spare you the embarrassing details (it involves slipping down the steps of a 300-person lecture room in wet boots). Now that I'm older and wiser, I wear a pair of rain boots on my bike ride to school and pack a slim pair of flats in my bag. When I arrive at my office, I leave the boots under my desk and put on my dry flats and--presto change-o!--I look like a grown-up but I have dry feet.

I'm a bike-riding bookworm in DC trying to make better use of a sometimes-vanilla closet. You can read a little more about this blog

i did the same today! rain boots for my commute/flats at the office!
Aww, I love the boots! Better not to break your neck falling down stairs though so the flats were a very sensible idea.
I've totally done the slip & fall in rain boots. yeahh it's embarressing & hurts your bum!! I like the leopard flats! I usually always bring two pairs of shoes just in case!! =) Cute outfit today! An anthro skirt for only $19? What a steal!!
I love those flats. They add an unexpected bit of fun and pattern to your outfit.
Ohh I love your blog. Your outfits are so great. I am a teacher and I vowed to NEVER become to ABC sweater kind of lady. I have gotten many stylish ideas from you!
P.S. I did the same thing with rain boots... but it was after school on a busy intersection while tying to walk my dog. Shouldn't rain boots be non-slippery?!
Good tip! But I thought rain boots should be non-slippery as Miss L. said. Mine are just kind of loud from the rubber. You look adorable as always!

Smart girl! They're both cute looks though, but go with the safer one ;)
Looking good!! While in grad school, I used to wear flip-flops all the time, even in the rain, until I majorly ate it in the middle of the school's busiest intersection. Lesson learned.

I am such a fan of those leopard flats-- and I love your hair pinned back like that! After a few slips, I made sure that my next pair of rainboots would have some nice traction action. But I am a big believer in bringing a pair of flats in my bag so I don't look like a kindergartner all day.
Love the skirt!
You're one smart lady! I try and do the same sometimes when it rains here, but usually dread carrying around my wet boots haha
I'm all about the boots. I can't stand having wet/cold feet so these work so well during autum. Your pair is lovely!
You are so adorable! I'm looking for a pair of rainboots right now. The Anthro skirt is a steal. I think I have the exact same top, except mine is not in good conidtion, so I wear it to sleep.
Genius! I need to apply the same theory to my 4 inch heels. Obviously, I'm still learning ;)
Fabulous! Both versions seem very Parisian to me!
Love it! And really, he won the bracelet at a bar? Funny!
Just Better Together
I looove the outfit with the leopard flats! Adds such a great shot of color and pizzazz to the solid neutrals!

Nice outfit!!! And GREAT BOOTS!
Smart girl :)
Love the black and white today.
Okay I have seen those flats on everyone lately! It seems every blogger has a pair, and I have to ask are they comfortable??
I love your rainy day look. I still need to get awesome boots because I damage my shoes all the time.
Don't worry about slipping - I do that even on not-rainy days...:)

@kinsey--they are not really super comfortable. they are more like very light slippers (no arch support, no traction) but the outside is soft, so i never get blisters. but no--i wouldn't say they are particularly sensible shoes :)
Totally adorable - and I'm kind of laughing at little at the story about falling on the stairs... you poor thing! I did a similar thing in college and almost died of embarrasment
Love the look! I was about to ask about those flats, but I saw Kinsey beat me to it :)
ooo i bet that skirt is going to be super versatile for you!
First, you are an Anthro-sale-shopping superstar! Second, I've taken a few rides down the stairs on my backside (in front of large masses of people) more times than I care to admit. I had a friend that actually broke her tailbone on such a tumble... so I'm thankful that mine haven't produced injuries (well, besides the ones to my ego).
Oh, I think your hair looks lovely today! You make it look so easy to have long hair. I feel like I'm always fighting with mine--time for a cut, I think :-)
Since I take the train to work I have to always bring a change of shoes. Unfortunately not all cute shoes can be comfy.
i love the look more with those boots on. it's sooo cute :X
Those flats are awesome. Love them.
Glad to hear they will also prevent slip and falls!
hi it's sandhya over from the style co-op! thank you so much for your link and support! we really appreciate it.
p.s. those boots are so fun - i need me some. i loooove my sperry topsiders.
Oh you poor thing. I think I learned a lesson from you...cute flats are indispensible. I'll go get more now.
i really love the concept of your blog..works cited, on my reading list..im procrastinating for a mid term right now and reading your blog makes me feel better!! (and slightly academic) lol

This outfit looks very nice- I always like your skirts.
I was just wondering, how do you avoid static when you wear them with tights? I can't stand it when skirts cling to my legs because of static. Or are all your skirts fully lined? If you have a trick, I'd love to hear it! :)
Omigosh! I slipped and then slid down an ENTIRE ESCALATOR! I always walk down the escalator on my way to the T in the morning, and...well... WOOPS. EMBARRASSING. You're not the only one!
cute! love the skirt. xxo!
great flats! a good pair of flats that go with everything is a total must-have in every woman's fashion arsenal!! these are so cute!

I always carry an extra pair of shoes to work. I walk to and from work every day, and it's just over a mile each way, so many of my heels and work shoes just aren't comfy enough. I always store a pair of work shoes, lunch, and a piece of fruit in my bag.
I love this outfit, too. The dark neutral base is lovely.
