This morning I put this on with a black skirt and Christopher said I looked like I worked in a bank, which made me think of this song, naturally. Much as I agree with the Fidelity Fiduciary bankers that a tuppence invested will make your affluence expand (thus allowing you to buy more cute skirts) I though it best to switch out the staid black for my orange skirt and avoid the banker look.

Fidelity Fiduciary

P.S. Someone tell me they like this necklace, please. Christopher hates accessories of any kind and begged me to take it off this morning. Too bad for him, I love it and plan on wearing it aaaaaall day. But I would like to share my appreciation for it with someone, anyone. Bueller?

LOVE THE NECKLACE. I actually scrolled back up to see where it was from after the close-up in the last pic. love the orange skirt too :)

The necklace isn't only fabulous, it's necessary: a properly chosen necklace takes it from being "clothes" to an "outfit"!

Sara said...

sincerely, the first thing i noticed about your top picture was the necklace. i really, really liked it, even without your prompting! and i think it looks top-notch with this outfit.

Della said...

I was just about to ask if I could borrow your necklace! Right now I'm on this darker jewelry binge and covet anything remotely gold. ;)

I love that you brought your orange skirt out of the closet so soon. I think it's marvelous.

Bridget said...

I like the necklace quite a bit! The textures are really fun, which is probably my favorite part about it. :)

Destrehan's Daughter said...

I think the necklace is gorgeous and I love the way you put it over the shirt and under the collar and the fact that it coordinates with your skirt.

megvetsch said...

i LOOOOVE that necklace! this entire outfit is beautiful and chic!

S@sha said...

I think the necklace makes the outfit. Also your hair is looking really good in these pictures.

Rebecca said...

I really like the necklace. Christopher is clearly wrong about accessories.

Zeynep said...

Dude. Are you kidding me? That necklace rocks.

So does the whole outfit, really.

Nancy said...

You didn't even have to prompt - I was already going to comment about how much I love the pairing of that necklace with your skirt. Well done! :)

Melanie's Randomness said...

I definitely like the necklace! It goes very well with the skirt!! =)

Kelly said...

The necklace makes the outfit! It complements the skirt perfectly. :)

Best Foot Forward said...

How could he possibly dislike accessories?! That necklace looks great and definitely completes the look. Love this outfit!

portlandize.com said...

I love this whole outfit - the colors are fantastic, and I love the contrast between the skirt and the black tights - the diamond pattern is great, the shoes are great, and the necklace adds a really nice visual detail to the white shirt - it's both a great color and a great pattern. Really like the shirt sleeves rolled up over the sweater too. Well done all around!

Magatha-May said...

The whole outfit works so well. The skirt and the necklace, the white cuffs, the pattern on your tights - wonderful my dear.

So cute. Love those tights.

hmm. i don't get the banker vibe. this whole getup seems very jcrew to me.

interrobangsanon said...

While I love me some Mary Poppins, I cringe at this song now - gotta love how all the examples of how the bank will use the tuppences are the exploits of colonialism. Appropriate for the time, but still.

And since I firmly believe we wearing clothing so we have a backdrop to accessories, Christopher is wrong. The necklace is superb, and just what the outfit needed.

What Would a Nerd Wear said...

YES! I knew Christopher was wrong! Thank you for the affirmation...sometimes a girl needs it, right?
p.s. @sasha: i straightened my hair today with a ceramic flat iron...it is pretty much the best thing to happen in my bathroom all year :)

I love the necklace! I didn't know Christopher had a hatred of accessories! And the skirt is beautiful....I am always so tempted to go on a JCrew shopping spree.

My first thought was "oooh what a gorgeous necklace" - how odd that Christopher doesn't like it.

Definitely love the necklace : ) And I'm glad you switched out the skirt! This breaks you from vanilla that you talk about. Either way would have been lovely but I definitely like this skirt!

The necklace just ties the whole outfit together!! Definitely the first thing that I noticed. I actually am thinking of ways to replicate this look with necklaces that I have! I guess the necklaces is more "girl pretty" than "guy pretty"

Justine said...

Wow! I am totally in love with this outfit! I really like the uneven-ness on the top of your skirt. I like your necklace. Christopher just has to learn how to appreciate accessories! :)

First: This skirt looks gorgeous they way you combined it here! It doesn't look orange, it rather looks mustardy in the photos, so I love it anyway :)

Second: don't listen to boys when the say something about accessories. My boyfriend is similar, he once said he'd be satisfied with me wearing jeans baggies and a black shirt (hello?!)... Anyway, the necklace looks chic with the blouse, so go for it ;)

Laurelann said...

He's silly; I think all guys have something weird about girl-ness that they don't like. My husband hates when I put on eyeshadow or shiny shoes (like patent leather). Aren't those the weirdest things? That necklace is gorgeous and I'm glad you didn't let him talk you out of wearing it.

First time commenting, though I've read often. This might be my favorite outfit so far, b/c it is unexpected. The necklace works and the dark tights with the pop of the skirt. Well done.

This is a great look, and somehow, black tights seem to lengthen your legs noticeably. Which is pretty fine, telling from a male perspective.

And one word about the necklace: screw Christopher, and keep it on :)

I love Mary Poppins, aww that song was so much fun, even if the whole theme was supposed to be stuffy.

I really love this outfit. It looks like something out of a J.Crew catalog. Your skirt and shoes are divine, friend!

I even made sure to look at where your necklace was from because I liked it so much. What a F21 find! And you should definitely wear necklaces more often.

p.s. you also look straight out of jcrew catalogue (and that is meant as my highest praise). I would definitely wear this outfit with nude tights or grey tights too.
