Rookie Mistakes

(P.S. I'm no longer linking back to the last time I wore an item because whew! that was time-consuming. If you'd like to see how I wore something last, you can always go to my flickr page and search by the item to see for yourself.)

Rookie Mistakes

I made a rookie mistake putting together this outfit yesterday. When I got up in the morning, it was a brisk 62 degrees--FALL!--so I put on boots (and a jacket). But by midday, it was 83 degrees--SUMMER!--so my jacket was stuffed in my bike basket and my sweaty ankles were regretting the boots. Despite the overheated calves, it was a good day because it was day with my two favorite seasons and a very enjoyable book in my bag.

It's a really cute outfit!!
I haven't broken out my boots yet... it's pretty much similar temperatures here in Michigan. It's freezing in the morning, then warm in the afternoons.

It is certainly that time of year, where the day starts like autumn and by the afternoon it's summer again. Like you, I enjoy that, though it takes some stylistic preparation. It looks like you thought ahead by wearing some layers. And I love those boots - they have such great character to them, and I always love reddish-brown with black.

Love the look!

Oh it's lovely! I really like black and tan as a combo and the patterned scarf just adds the right touch of jazz to it.

Yeah I totally did that the other day. I got all dressed up in a skirt & sleveless shirt, then went outside. Yeah I had to switch to pants & a better top! Love your dress & the boots! =) The scarf is a cute touch!

I'm so jealous of weather that is too warm for boots!

Love, love, love! This is one of my fav color combos! Also really like how you styled the scarf and belted the belt - just adds that little extra "oomph" to a rockin' outfit!

You look fabulous!!! I keep doing the same thing too. It is freezing when we get up and warm by noon. I just can't win :)

Cute!! I hate that about transitioning, it's finally chilly at night and in the mornings and then BAM 80 degrees and sunny. Love the boots though!

Love this look! Especially the scarf. I am in a similar situation with the seasons...at least in my head. I want fall but its still over 100 degrees where I am at :( My blog will continue as summer for a bit longer!

I love the way you mixed black and brown with this outfit. You look great, even if you were too warm.

Sweaty calves are a sign of a gorgeous fall day. I need to get over brown boots but I can't... love these.

Yuk, I hate that sweaty feeling when I wear boots in warm weather. At least you looked amazing! I think this is my favorite outfit of yours in a long time, so don't be surprised if I copy it soon! :)

That happens a lot to me -- this is why I think getting up early is worthless :) But you look so lovely and it IS a beautiful early fall/late summer outfit. Perfect.

I live in middle Georgia and am having the exact same problem with dressing right now! And by the afternoon, the cute cardigan that tied my outfit together has to be taken off because I'm sweating. Love your outfit, the brown and black together is classic.

Want the boots! Am seriously debating getting a Steve Madden pair...I killed all my cheap boots from last season. Love the black & brown here!

I love the knee-high socks with the boots, and the way you're wearing your scarf!

I'm having the same weather dilemmas - it's cool in the morning when I run, so I think "time to break out the boots!" Then, by the time I've showered and changed, it's 85 again :(

sometimes fashion requires extreme sacrifice and dedication! Sorry for you sweaty ankles, but you look fabulous.

I hate it when the weather does that! But I have to say, this will be a really cute outfit in a couple of weeks when you don't have to worry about your ankles any more!

Well, it may be rookie mistakes, but that is hot. And i´m not speaking about temperatures.

I know what you mean--I wore boots today too and by afternoon it was not the best decision. Oh well. You look great though--I love the black and brown together!

nah, not a rookie mistake....this inbetween time of fall and summer is hard to plan for! you skillfully mixed black and brown, that's for sure!

I've been pondering this very thing for a blog post. The challenge for dressing for EVERYthing one might encounter in a day. Some days, I'm only in the classroom. Some days, I have meetings with important people. And some days, I have to contend with weather extremes.

despite giving you a hard time those boots look awesome with those socks!!

I've been making rookie fall mistakes all week, too. I love this, though!

Love this combo. It's so simple and chic, even if it did result in rookie mistake sweaty calves. :)
