On Inflation

Inflation

Works Cited
skirt: anthro
belt: j crew
shirt: gap
wedges: fitzwell

I am not the most patient person, but I willed myself to wait till this perfect denim shirt from Gap went on sale before I bought it (for less than $10, thank you sale rack). It was something RIDICULOUS like $60 to begin with. For some reason, I can't wrap my mind (or wallet) around Gap increasing its prices since 1993 when I started shopping there and I'm entirely unwilling to spend more than $12 for a tee shirt there, which is probably what I paid in the fourth grade. I guess it's time to teach my unconscious brain about inflation...

This is really a cute combo! I love the denim with the navy...almost looks like a denim-on-denim combo. At any rate, it's perfect for those breezy late summer/early fall days.

Oh, and ITA with you on Gap's pricing. I just can't bring myself to pay full price for anything there!

This is a very nice transitional outfit. That is a great deal on the shirt too. I love Gap clothes, but I usually get stuff final sale.

I love your comment about the pricing. I am also a frugal shopper and have a set price for things I am willing to pay

It IS a perfect denim shirt! And your mind's not alone with it's delusional price points; I can't even bring myself to purchase something full-price from Target!

What a great find! You have far more patience than I, that's for sure! :)

A denim shirt for $60 from Gap? Crazy!! I'm glad you held out! Denim shirts will be great for Fall anyways;) And the way you paired it with the skirt is very cute!

You have such a great blog! Your pictures are really nice and showcase your outfits very well. This is such a cute outfit and I love how you mixed all these shades of blue and gray! :D

What a "bargain" if you're comparing it to our inflation rate! I canNOT buy a regular tee/knit if it's $25, and most of the time, I can't even past $20, and that's including tax.

I am glad you wait for the sales :) Maybe you can even tack a coupon next time, wouldn't that put a smile on your face.

Sounds like it was worth the wait! Such a good price for this shirt. I love Gap's button-downs as well, but I'm never willing to pay the $50+ price tag.

I think the GAP has always been expensive, though - I got a $20 or $30 gift card to there in 1995, and I could only buy a t-shirt in Gap kids with it.

I have the SAME mentality when it comes to shopping. Since I used to be able to buy cute tops for $20 and pants for $35, I have a really hard time spending anything more than that. My friends laugh at me and I know it's time to move beyond 1997, but maybe my wallet is secretly happy for my little shopping "nostalgia."

That is a very perfect denim shirt.

I tend to feel the same way about prices. I always look at the sweaters at J. Crew and get crabby because I used to be able to buy them for $30 in college.

I feel the same way about Gap/AE/Old Navy. I can't bring myself to spend more than $15 on an item, especially when I know I could find it thrifted too.

I really love this look. I've been patiently waiting to find the perfect denim shirt, and I'm glad you found yours.

love the blue on blue! i totally agree with you on gap's ridiculous prices! i remember as a kid i thought gap was common people's clothes but when i grew older and started buying clothes on my own, i was shocked to see how much just a plain t-shirt from them is! i do love their clothes though so i just stalk the items in the stores until they go on sale or wait until huge sales like buy one get one free :)

Hee hee, I love your thrifty dedication. How often you do haunt your favorite stores when you are waiting for something to go on sale? Also, have you heard of Groupon? My sister got me into it, and we recently purchased $25 Groupons that are good for $50 worth of stuff at the Gap. Score!

I love that shirt!
I'm picky about the double breast pocket thing, and I haven't found a denim shirt I like yet.

This one looks super fab on you! Yay for deals!

That shirt is great! I was just in Gap and I had a Groupon that I paid $25 for and was worth $50 and I still couldn't bring myself to purchase some things that just seemed way too pricey. So I restocked my underwear because I was starting to need some replacements. 5 for $20, woohoo!

Hey, yesterday I was at a Modest Mouse concert in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and there was a girl there and I though to myself 'hey, that girl looks like Tanya', because she had the same hair and kinda the same eyebrows (I mean, I don't know you, but she looked like you, if that makes sense) and then she turned around and she was wearing 'your' 'c'est ne pas une bicyclette' shirt! That was a weird coincidence, especially since there is no Urban Outfitters store in the Netherlands, so where could she have bought it?

Just wanted to share this with you :p

That's awesome it went on sale so cheap and you found it! Love the denimy look!

I know just what you mean - it can be hard to readjust your set ideas of what prices should be at certain stores. That is, in fact, the perfect chambray shirt!

Absolutely love the way you pull off this denim + denim look. Flawless!
Gap, I know, right? They are charging $70 for jeans these days? Puh-leez! It's the Gap for godsake!

I definitely understand what you're saying about inflation! I can't wrap my mind around prices sometimes because I was raised on bargain bins and two-fers. Sometimes you have to sacrifice for quality.

I feel the same way about their pricing. It's hard to believe that a pair of underwear can cost $13 at Gap or a t-shirt is worth $35. I usually shop sales only except for their leather ballet flats. I have a pair of the black ones and they are starting to wear out, so I might need to buy the next incarnation before it disappears.

I like the shirt! It looks good with that skirt.
I always shop the GAP sale section, including men's. They've got nice men's sweaters and v-necks that I can wear :p

Enjoy the shirt! I waited for the same exact one to go on sale because I too couldn't bear to pay full price. I ended up buying it in the lighter wash and it's my fave summer purchase since I pretty much wear it with everything. And for $8, you really can't beat it ;)

Especially since it seems like the company is somewhat in trouble...I'm a regular Gap shopper and have noticed in the past few years a couple of the stores I used to shop in (in two different states) have closed. Now I'm forced to stop in at the outlet on my way to FL twice a year, or shop the sales online. Which is probably good for my budget anyway.
