A Long-Legged Lie

Not to sound like a broken record, but I really love the color gray. It goes with everything, always makes me feel chic, and fuses dark and light. What's not to love? Plus these cheerful pops of yellow look extra-good juxtaposed against something neutral.

A Long-Legged Lie

Also, I need to 'fess up that my legs aren't really as long as they look in these pictures. It's an optical illusion produced by the slight hill that I'm standing on and the belt at my natural waist. Recently my sister said to me "I like your blog but you do know that almost all of your outfits have a belt?" Yes, Rachel, I do. It's because I learned from the best belters around. But I also realize that belts make my silhouette more grown-up, my waist seem smaller, and contribute to the illusion that my legs have some length. So unless you can find me a replacement sartorial magic trick, the belt is here to stay :)

You are so cute and funny. Wait a minute, you are pretty too! You are absolutely right about how grey is the perfect color to mess around with and you have styled it so well with the yellow accessories. You do have lovely legs you know. Just the right length! :)

Aww, I love this outfit and your optical illusion! I'm always belting my outfits at the waist too -- I really feel strange when I don't wear one now. I used to think it look impractical because the belt wasn't attached to pants or a skirt, but realize it does wonders for the silhouette.

You're making me realize that I don't have enough grey in my closet!

Grey and yellow is such a winning combination.

I love grey and yellow, love this outfit, it's one of my faves.

I'm totally guilty of belting everything as well. Looking through my pictures from my 30 for 30 challenge, it seems I have a belt on in almost every outfit. But hey, if thats what works for us, then I say lets keep on doing it!

Yellow and grey are my favorite colors together! This outfit is so pretty, T...and I might just have to start only standing on little hills to lengthen my little stumps.

I love the color grey, too. It is just perfect for so many outfits! And hey, keep belting because I love all your belted looks!

I love those yellow shoes, especially with the grey dress. And dang, you've got great legs! I love how you're transitioning this summery-feeling dress into autumn with the sweater.

I like the belts! If I was as skinny as you I would wear belts everyday, too.

I not only love the belts, I love belts over cardies. Fantastic!

P.S. Is it weird that my word verification was "jecus"? I really shouldn't analyze these sorts of things.

i love belts! best accessory. I also love the yellow with the gray, very well balanced.

I've been getting similar comments ... is it so wrong to love belts?

I like the sweater to dress length ratio. It also helps make your legs look long!

This is a cute outfit. I love yellow/gray.

I also LOVE the belt look, but as a plus-size gal, I have a hard time making it work for me.

Do you have someone take photos of you or do you set it up on a tripod? I want to start taking outfit photos and writing about queer fat femme academic fashion, but I have no one to take photos of me and doing it myself is proving tricky!

I also am a fan of gray. This gray and yellow looks so great together!

I find more recently when I get dressed, I always try a belt on with everything! It can totally transform an outfit and add shape.

You look so soft and gorgeous today. Whatever it is, it's working :)

Why shouldn´t you use simple optical tricks to outperform 99% of the street crowd?

Go for it, that´s all to say.

I love gray and yellow together too! Since black and yellow reminds me of a bumble bee :)

I like the belts! Inspired by your example, I've tried the extraneous belt trick, but I don't think it works as well for me, probably because I have a short torso :-(

PS Your hair looks great today!

Gray is a beautiful color, and one of my favorites. In fact, I have a hard time NOT buying something that happens to be heather gray. Oh, and I own about 10 gray v-necks and cardigans. Love the yellow belt with this adorable outfit!

I'm with you on gray! It's amazing, and I also love it.
You totally rock the yellow accents too. I notice you do that pretty often, but it works! It's never too similar either.
And I like the belts. They're flattering.

I like this. Grey and yellow!

I belt almost everything. Every day the questions isn't usually to belt or not but which belt--skinny or wide, gold or woven, etc. :)

Your legs DO look insanely long! I agree this it's one of so many reasons that belting is the best thing ever (except for fall leaves and the smell of books...and maybe a few other things). Belting AND yellow flats...well, that's the best thing ever x 2!
