Man, I'm so pleased to have this skirt taken in, you pretty much can't get me out of it! I can't believe it was almost in the giveaway pile. I might even wear it tomorrow, I love it so much. This was almost my first day of school outfit, but I nixed it because the shoes are a little too fun and sometimes I feel a little wobbly in them (not a good thing when you want to stride confidently through a classroom). But it was just right for a second day of school in a warm classroom. Sometimes I find navy blue an oddly difficult color to pair with other colors, but I once read that beige is a great match with navy and I wholeheartedly agree. But what else goes great with navy? I liked yesterday's light blue and also grey, but what about colors?? Is yellow too garish?

Oooh what a sweet top! The skirt looks great, too. I love pairing navy with yellow! I also put navy with red, white, and gray.
I like yellow and red with navy.
I love this - it is so pretty! I love navy with yellow, but the right kind of yellow - like a yellowy gold. Orange is also good or light blue/teal. I also really love a pretty pink or fuschia with navy :). Just my ideas :)
Small Time Style
I love this outfit!!! The top and the skirt are lovely!

I was about to write all of the colours that Lauren just wrote. So instead I'll just ditto Lauren.
I love yellow and navy together! Also saffron works well with navy.
For me, navy and grey have always been the ultimate neutrals. I much prefer pairing navy over black with any other color (and, come to think of it, navy and black is snazzy, too!). So keep experimenting - I think you'll be thrilled with the combos you find. My personal favorite? Navy and grass green.
This outfit is so sweet! I love the lace, navy and buttery yellow touches. And that skirt looks great on you. I don't blame you for wanted to wear it constantly.
navy and gray are my favorite neutrals in all the land! the only color i struggle to pair with navy is purple, but red, green, orange, even other shades of blue look marvelous in my opinion.
My two favorite colors to wear with navy are lavender and sea-green/pale teal/seafoam.
I love navy skirts with a crisp white shirt, and either red or tan leather accessories. Navy is probably my most worn colour!
i love wearing greens with navy! i like a crisp white, too.
I really love this belted skirt look, but whenever I try to pull it off my belt just drifts upwards all day and I'm constantly readjusting it. Do you have any tricks to keep these things all lined up and perfectly in place? I'm assuming that belt isn't actually going through any loops...
i can't believe it was on the giveaway pile either! you look absolutely stunning! the shirt is my favorite and the wedges just pull everything together...not to mention that bike! :)
I'm really liking your hair and hoops today. :) And personally I LUV navy with yellow (for a rugby look), off white, and hot pink!
I always love that blouse - the lace and trim are such wonderful details. And I love it with that skirt, too! It looks like your toe is all healed - I hope so anyway.
I consider navy a neutral!! Green is always fun to pair with it and Yellow is DEFINITELY not too garish. Those shoes are perfect with your skirt. You look great.
Personally I like yellow with navy, but I enjoy bright colours so my judgement may not be the best to go by. =).
i am in love with that skirt too! navy goes great with anything, especially red! i like navy better than black actually and consider it a neutral color! this is such a lovely outfit! i need to find a skirt just like that!
Your photos are gorgeous today! The sunlight, the colors--stunning. I think that skirt would look great with pink. I'm a big fan of pink with darker colors, like navy or black. I just think the contrast is really eye-catching and pretty.
Such a fun and whimsical outfit. I think yellow and navy is great -- a little New England, a little mod. Try it!
xo
I have once paired a dark orange and white striped shirt with navy pants, and I thought it looked pretty decent. =)
I agree with every color combo listed above! Additionally, I love to pair black with navy. I heard it cannot, *should not*, be done but then I saw it in a Details men magazine once and loved the color combo. :)
That skirt is a major winner! It's a great silhouette.
I like navy with lots of colors! Especially red or white. And I've definitely worn yellow and navy together before.
Before you even asked I was going to say I really like navy with yellow. I don't know why, but it just screams fun to me.

That top is very cute! I actually really like yellow with navy. I'm also a big fan of red with navy and pink with navy.
I would definitely pair yellow with navy, or anything to get that nautical vibe. I like black too, cuz I'm a rebel. Other shades of blue could look really nice as well, why not some turquoise?
Chic on the Cheap
Love this outfit, especially the shirt! I've read that navy counts as a neutral, so I say pair it with whatever you want.
Hello Beauty! I'm also in loved with your skirt! I have to agree with Molly, navy is neutral! You can pair it with whatever you want, stripes, pink, light brown, green, anything! Wish you a great Friday! Xoxo
Yellow looks nice with navy...but what else other than those that you've named. hmmm
So many colours look fantastic with navy! Yellow is an excellent choice, but I think pale blue, sage green, red, hot pink or even olive would also go great! It all depends on balancing the colours with some neutrals, and wearing it with confidence. Then you'll always look fantastic!

I am so in love with this outfit I think I might propose.
love the whole outfit! the lacey top makes it nice and feminine :)

Love your pretty top and skirt! : )
hey! cute outfit. i have that same skirt and I have to stop myself from wearing it more than once week. i normally wear it with a white or grey shirt and a brown belt, but I am a big fan of navy paired with other neutrals. it also makes it easy to accessorize with bright shoes or jewelry. but i've also worn it with red, teal, plum, a rosy pink color.
You could wear this skirt everyday and I don't think anyone would be protesting. And oooh, I love navy! I actually think it's incredibly versatile. Some of my favorite pairings:
Yellow (looks GREAT with navy and gray!)
Red (think crimson, not tomato, to avoid 4th of July connotations)
Gray
Beige
Caramel/cognac (this is my favorite. I think navy looks phenomenal with leather/faux leather touches)
White (combine white, navy, and tan, and you've got an awesome Hamptons-esque color scheme, in my opinion)
Lime green (though bright, looks awesome)
Other shades of blue
Whew! :)
Navy is my absolute favorite! I find it much easier to pair with other colors than black. My personal favorite is navy, gray, and white w/ a pop of one other color (orange/yellow/teal). Looks great w/ gold or silver accessories, too!
I love navy with bright pink especially. Also, tan, white, cream, bright green, yellow.
But I think bright pink is my favorite!
Nerd, no I think yellow is fantastic with navy, especially a chartreuse, also, almost any shade of pink. Orange. Red is nice but can look a little costumey.
PS- When I think navy, I think jeans. Everything looks great with jeans!
Navy is a neutral! It looks great with just about everything.
I think yellow, red, certain shades of green and pink all look great with navy.
That skirt is so cute! I really like it.
The yellow looks good; browns go well with navy too. And some shades of pink.
i like yellow with navy and black with navy and red (dusty shades are great!) with navy! i wore the death out of my UO navy skirt last year!
Getting something tailored to you is such a great investment! It makes you feel so good, and it'll add new life to your wardrobe, so wear the crap out of that skirt! :)
Navy blue is so versatile! You can do charcoal grey, mustard yellow, chartreuse, red (dark or light), plum purple, deep or light pink, white, black, some browns, and lighter blues.
pastels like mint green, peach or lavender. on the other side of the spectrum, bold shades of yellow or olive, like deep chartreuse. black + navy is super chic.
I think you look super pretty!! I love navy blue - I especially love it with camel or brown!

I absolutely love that skirt and the tailoring made such a difference! I think almost anything can work with navy, but my faves (that aren't neutrals) are yellow, orange, and even red (but I really like nautical, so I know that doesn't work for everyone). My wedding colors were even grass green and navy. What a versatile skirt you have! :)
Hope and the Dress Code
I absolutely love the color of your narrow belt and wedges. :)
That shirt is perfection. I love the shape of it!
Melanie@UnravelledThreads
I have that skirt in yellow! I wore it today to work with a belt after seeing this outfit...thanks!
I always love how perfect your bike goes with your outfits. I have almost the exact same bike! However, my commute is too far to be able to ride to work everyday. I am a teacher as well!
I knew there was a reason I love following your blog!
I must ask, where did you get the basket on the front of your bike?
I love the top with the skirt! Such a great outfit, so sweet :)
This look is so sweet! The skirt looks fantastic on you too! I love the skinny belt with the wide waistband :)
This is such an adorable outfit :)
Love this look- so simple and almost romantic. I'd definitely think you were a fabulous professor with this outfit (in addition to your mad teaching skills, of course). I think it would look wonderful with yellow, particularly a soft or buttery color.
I think that yellow looks great with navy
you should totally try it
perhaps a mustard yellow =)
very nice look
