Concept to Closet

This outfit was way cooler in my head. In fact, even in front of the mirror, I thought "Excellent, I look extra long today." But then the pictures tell the truth: I still have hips and my blouse and shoes don't come anywhere close to matching. By which point it's way too late to go back in and change and I've got to make the best of what I picked out and strut my stuff down the hallways anyway.

Concept to Closet

Which isn't to say that I don't like this outfit--just that it definitely isn't one of my recent favorites and the "concept to closet" translation didn't go quite as smoothly as I had hoped.

Awww. Well I think you look pretty fab. I really like the belt with the skirt.

I think this outfit makes you look tall and slim...but I completely understand how you feel. Oufits in my head never work quite the same in real life...for better or worse.

i have that problem a lot. i put pieces together in my head and then i go to get dressed and i wonder what i was thinking. then i take too long to find something else, my room looks like a tornado hit it, and i'm usually late. but you always look so well put together i'd never guess that happens to you.

I agree - I think this outfit is pretty awesome. But I hear ya - I often have this problem myself. The outfit looks great in the morning, but by the end of the day, I look in the mirror and wonder what I was thinking :).

Bummer. I also dislike when reality doesn't meet expectation, especially in matters of clothing. But I echo these ladies, you look pretty swell! You'll get plenty of wear out of that skirt, I bet. Won't it look great with with boots and textured tops in cooler weather? Great find!

That happens to me so much. I actually really like this outfit though and as far as I'm concerned your sandals totally match the gray flowers in your blouse!

I COMPLETELY understand what you're saying. Ever since I started style blogging, I am sometimes super bummed at how outfits I love in the mirror look surprisingly awkward in photos, which can put my judgment into question :/ Having said that, I actually do think this outfit is fresh and fun and probably way cooler than what's going on in your head!

I still think you look amazing. Hips, what hips? And I like that everything is not matchy matchy :)

Oh I hate when I get fabulous ideas in my head and then when I actually put the clothes together it just isn't as magical. I envy people who are ahead of the game and try on their outfits the night before so they have time to spare.

Personally, I really like this outfit. I think you look great, but I know how it goes and you are the one that has to feel comfortable in it. :)

First, I really like this! Second, I know how disappointing it is to have a great concept of an outfit in your mind, only to feel like you blew it on execution. I find myself doing that a lot lately, but I think it means we're stepping out of our comfort zones and trying to get more creative, so it's totally worth it :)

Ah Tania, experiencing this thing every other day. You´ll arrange things in mind, like them, put them on...and suddenly, you don´t feel like wearing that stuff at all.

As long as you´re not feeling comfortable but still looking gorgeous, i guess you can keep on doing like that.

I hate that moment of disappointment when the outfit fails to live up to expectations - and there's nothing you can do about it! But the skirt does make your legs look really long!

It's okay. This is a learning experience. There is always tomorrow :) And besides, there is no grading involved!

Why wouldn't you have hips? You're a woman & hips are awesome!! I can show you some hips, sister! Lol. I was actually thinking, her skirt fits her nicely. Very SFW.

I think you look great, but I completely understand how it feels when an outfit looks different in your head than it does in reality. I often struggle with this when I copy a look from someone else. I expect to look the way they do in the outfit, which is just silly because I'm not them.

I can empathize with feeling frustration about how sometimes outfits translate differently in photos than they read in the mirror. I do think you look super stylish, and I agree with some of the other commentators - hips are fantastic!

Oh, I know how you feel, but I think you look lovely :)

Oops! I don't think it's a total disaster--you just look funkier than normal. I like the belt with the skirt, but I think I'd pick something sleeker to wear on top.

I have a giveaway happening right now over at Life, Love, and Food if anyone is interested...and I quoted Tania :-D! Don't you feel famous now?!?

I actually think you look great, and do look longer! The skirt length and solid color definitely do the trick :o)

I had a similar experience with a belted cardigan last week. It just didn't quite hit what I imagined. This outfit is still cute, though. Maybe it just needs different shoes.

i like the inverted sweetheart shape in your top.

Honestly, I think you look fantastic and miles long. I ADORE the color combinations, too.
