Here is what my hair looks like clean and dry. It is naturally pretty straight, but it has a tendency toward frizz and it gets kinked annoyingly easily by hair elastics.

Here's what I like about Misikko:
1. They are a family-run business so both your heart and hair can be warmed.
2. They packaged stuff beautifully and I am a sucker for the little extras, like the Shine serum which made my hair smell like an expensive hair salon. Behold:

3. If you have moneys (sadly, I am out), you can buy lots of amazing hair things from Misikko, like CHI flat irons and Ionic hair dryers which will make your hair pretty.
4. The Hana Elite model, which they sent me, is 100% ceramic which is actually good for your hair. Ceramic plates also last forever, get ridiculously hot, and make your hair amazingly shiny and smooth. The proof is in the pudding:

I could only come up with two downsides. The first downside I'd chalk up to my complete lack of hair skills. Inspired by the very talented Indiana Adams, who is blessed with hair-doing talents, and foolishly galvanized by a youtube clip which make hair curling look easy, I tried to curl my hair using the flat iron. Result:

Things didn't go so well. Someone come to my house and teach me!
The second is that flat irons are expensive, and I am poor. While Misikko's prices are better than its competitors for these amazing products, there's still no way I could afford a ceramic flat iron on my own. But if you are a person with a "real job" that makes "real money" instead of a grad student living near the poverty line, go out and buy yourself one of these babies. You will never have a bad hair day again.
Luckily, if you're impecunious like me (or even if you're not), you can enter a giveaway early next week to win one of your own--woohoo! Stay tuned!

great review! i've had a Babyliss pro titanium ceramic flat iron for a few years now, and I LOVE it. learning to curl with it took a few tries - i still screw it up sometimes. it has something to do with just twisting your hair around the flat iron halfway and gently pulling it through in a down/out motion (if that makes ANY sense). i found that when i try to twist it around the flat iron too much, that's when i mess it up and it gets kind of kinky. :) enjoy the new flat iron! you have gorgeous hair!!!
Ha ha this is a cute review! Sorry the curling didn't work out so well!
What gorgeous packaging! For what it's worth, I think your hair looks amazing both ways.
I was lucky enough to grab a pair of ceramic straighteners for £3 at a car boot sale last week - must get using them soon.
Haha, I like the result on the second picture, but your hair gorgeous anyways! ;) I don't have any hair skill so I couldn't help either. Have a terrific afternoon sweetie!
muack! :*
Pretty hair in general! :)
I've recently started using a flatiron to curl my hair on occasion, and by that I mean, getting my mother to do it for me. Haha! I can curl with a curling iron no problem, and straightening with a flatiron - easy peasy! But curling with the flatiron is difficult to do and I always screw it up. But with a new special flatiron I got, it holds the curls a little longer than the curling iron does.
haha Great review! I would love to purchase one of these, but I'm also a lowly grad student. (Bonus points, by the way, for using the word "impecunious." I had a super-geeky moment when my mind went straight to the Latin root word. Oh geez!)
Your hair is already shiny and straight, though! I love your attempt at curling your hair with a flat iron - I can only ever do it on one side of my head! Try doing it on the other side - maybe it'll miraculously work? Of course, that would still leave you with only half of your hair curled...hmm.
I love your honesty, friend -- good review! I am really bad at trying to curl my hair with a flat iron, but the curls you attempted at least look like real curls. I love how shiny your hair looks, though!
Um...your hair looks GORGEOUS just clean and dry. If mine looked like yours, I wouldn't even mess with heat styling. Lucky!
Great review.
I curl my hair with a flat iron. It takes a few tries to master the technique, but it isn't so hard after that.
Well, the curling doesn't look that bad. It's actually kind of different and unique. Probably also due to your awesome hair shininess and texture.
So jealous! It looks amazingly sleek!
Curling it just takes some practice, I made a video about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItvjvJrV4QU
hahaha your face in the last picture is priceless! i remember when i got mine in the mail i died over the little roses and the ribbon, it was was christmas all over again. :P
Ah yes, I was not blessed with hair-doing talents either. The only thing that I ever do with mine is put it in a ponytail. Pretty sure I have a permanent kink by now. :(
Hahahaha love the last pic, your second curl came out alright though! It does take a little work, but I prefer curling with a flat iron to a curling iron (probs because my permanent hair goal is less volume).
Your hair look extremely pretty. I wish mine were like you.
If there's an Ulta near you, think about getting a flat iron when they're having a sale. I think I got my ceramic one (which is pretty narrow, and therefore cheaper) for either 40% or 50% off.
Also, I love that you used "impecunious" in a blog. Hooray vocabulary!
I think we have the same hair. As in, about the same color and style and your description of your hair is just like mine - mostly straight with a few weird kinks when it dries on its own; takes shape from a hair elastic as easily as a straightener.
I'm excited for this giveaway already. It looks like it works wonderfully!
Gorgeous!! Your hair looks so shiny and healthy! I think if you just did the curls all over, it would look all sexy and messy. Keep trying, you'll get it. I want one!! I need my flat iron to bring health not poof.
Have a great, shiny, healthy, sexy hair, weekend!

Hahahaha, it took me a while to figure out the curling with a straightener too.

Nice and honest review. i can't do the hair curling with the straightener either. It DOES indeed look really easy on Youtube.
You are ridiculously awesome and adorable!
When I tried the Hana iron, I was amazed. I also had an old school iron that immediately went into the trash. Your hair looks great straight!
alltumbledown:a modest attempt at style
I'm really happy with my Lady Remington flat iron from Target - it was only $40, and great quality. Your hair looks great!
Sounds nice and the results are lovely. Too bad I don't care enough to bother with flat-ironing or blow-drying my hair. I'm sure it would help! :)
I just became a follower. Cute blog!

Wow looks like a great iron! I love my Chi, but it's getting old and I'm starting to save for a new one for when this one breaks...sad day.
Also I gave you the "versatile blogger" award (a pass it on blog "award") on my blog. :)
I'm letting my hair grow for a change and my sister's flat iron's become a vital device in my life. I'd forgotten how much time it takes to actually have to comb one's hair, haha.
You look pretty both with and without the flat iron's touch.
Have an awesome week!
Miki.
