I don't consider myself a particularly patriotic person, but I have to confess I love a holiday that includes fireworks, barbecue, and a lot of time outside; plus, it gives me an excuse to wear my Obama shirt.

S. did a little feature on me at Academichic today, and I laughed when I saw the compilation of my signature outfits--tee shirt and high-waisted skirt--and realized I was wearing the same thing again today. I hope it doesn't get too repetitive, but it's been a busy week, so I find myself gravitating to pieces I know will flatter. Today, I wanted to do red, white, and blue in slightly more subtle ways--an orangey-red patterned shoe, and chambray for my blue.

Are you doing Kendi's 30 for 30 challenge starting next week? I am, and I'm already excited to see what other people come up with! Have a terrific weekend and see you on Monday.
P.S. Last chance to win a printed bag from mengseldesigns!

Now that is a good 4th of July outfit. Lots of people take this holiday a mite to literally, with stars and stripes and all that jazz. You're embracing actual politics in America. Good stuff!
This is great! Not crazy overdone. Love those flats.
No one needs an excuse for supporting Obama, even if it´s only on a tee...enjoy your fireworks, i am going to the seaside :)
love the skirt. what does the waistband look like? Do you do elastic or zippers? All your self-made skirts always look so cute.
love the flats x
OH MY GOSH.
I want to wear that shirt so badly on Sunday.
But my husband's family would throw me to the wolves and I'd like to survive for the sake of my daughter. So awesome. You look like Independence Day Perfection.
Too bad I can't wear my Obama tee cuz I'm 6 months prego. Maybe I can alter it.....? Thanks for the idea!
Yay! I love your style even more now!
Happy 4th!
Very cute! I like your signature style, you always look put together but still comfortable and approachable. :)
Aw, love it! Also I love the new blog look - very classy :o)
I found your blog through Kendi's and have to admit that I'm really excited to see what all you guys come up with. Also, love the tee and high waisted skirt combo on you! Gorgeous.

This is a perfectly festive outfit for the fourth! I hadn't planned to participate in Kendi's challenge because I will be traveling for most of this month. We are going on our honeymoon and then we move for my new job soon after we get back.
I hope you'll participate in our boots challenge over at Fashionable Academics, though! Have a great weekend!
good idea, i hadn't thought of wearing my obama tee for the 4th, but it's a good excuse to break it out!
Love it! I'm thinking about doing the 30 for 30 challenge - I'm just wondering if I'm creative enough to do it! And kudos for being featured on Academichic!
Looks like a perfect holiday weekend outfit. And I'm glad that your toe seems to be feeling better.
I'm so stoked that you're joining in the challenge!
I LOVE these pictures so much and that tee is the bees knees! This is a perfect grown-up holiday look!

What a great festive 4th of July outfit. You look great! Thanks for posting about Kendi's challenge. I think I'm going to try to do it. It sounds like a lot of fun. Plus I need to shop my closet more.

I love your outfits. No one cares if you always have the same style because it's just so cute.
enjoy the long weekend! nothing is going on up in the great hulking canadian north, but i hope you enjoy it!
I've been sewing for decades and upon seeing your version of the skirt and my version of the skirt, I've decided time sewing doesn't always equate to quality of skirt... 'm going to rip mine apart this weekend and hopefully when I redo it, it will look as good as your because I'm quite jealous!
That skirt is amazing! I really should learn how to sew. I also love your shirt :)

very patriotic!
This is the best 4th of July outfit I've ever seen. So classy and cute and simple but the Obama shirt makes a statement!
If the look works, right? And it does, and you are so cute -- happy 4th of July!
Chic on the Cheap
i cant wait to see your 30 for 30 challenge posts! i am way too chicken to attempt this!
You totally rock the t-sihrt and skirt combo! I hope you have a great 4th of July!
clothed much, a modest fashion blog
I am a hundred per cent sure Christopher didn't resist such beauty and grabbed you right after he took the last picture! It is PERFECT!
You know, the way you look always pretty isn't fair! Hahaha... I would love to have an Obama t-shirt. He's one of a kind and that makes me think about who I'm goin to vote for president this year... it's my first time voting - in Brazil we're obligated to - and I feel the responsability of this future choice! Last elections I was just 16 - fours years ago, so I hope I chose it right!
Have a great holiday! Lots of love, Larysse :)
That last photo of you is so beautiful!
You look adorable! It might be a classic "you" look with the skirts and shirts but I've never found it boring because you find new ways to wear each item.
A perfect 4th of July outfit. That's an awesome Obama top. I might break one of my old shirts out tomorrow, but none are half as stylish as yours :)
Love the 4th o' July look! I don't usually feel all that patriotic either, but I always try to embrace red, white, and blue on the 4th!
This outfit is so perfect and americana! i love it!
wooo obama! :)
