(The white balance is a little funny on these, but I love how verdant the yard looks!)

I fiddled with this outfit this morning for a while before giving in to the summer craving for simplicity. An easy white dress doesn't need a lot of dressing up or accessorizing (though I'm sure I'll eat my words in the next few weeks).

Plus I think boys like it simple. As we were walking out the door, Christopher teased me, "You've resisted your compulsive habit of belting. I like it better this way--it's simpler." There are certainly men out there who seem to appreciate more unusual or inventive ways of dressing, but my boyfriend definitely isn't one of them. He much prefers pared down looks.

I'm curious--what do the boys in your life think of fashion? Do they also think simple is better?

My boyfriend really loves the way I dress but he himself is a classic jeans and t-shirt or polo guy. Sometimes it drives me crazy but I like being the creative one in the relationship :D Plus he loves me for who I am so that makes me excited too! It's even more fun to get dressed up when I know he'll appreciate it every time. Well, most of the time ;P

I love the simplicity of this. It's still very chic but it lets you shine through rather than the accessories or clothing.

My husband truly couldn't care less what I wear most of the time, as long as I'm not outrageously overdressed or underdressed for the occassion.

I don't have a boy in my life so I wear whatever pleases me with no comments :)

The simplicity of that dress is so beautiful. Perfect shape for you and after what you said in your last post - yay, it's not black!

I mostly associate with males as friends and they are always lamenting their emasculation as I wear shoes that make me taller than them. Otherwise, they have accepted what is considered to be "strange" way of dressing...meaning that for this area, someone my age not in VS Pink sweats tucked into Uggs.

I think men understand / remember things when its simple...so wearing simple, pretty clothing makes sense to them

Boys don't get fashion at all...my experience has been that boys prefer simplicity; although my husband is oddly tolerant of my wardrobe wanderings, I'm certain he'd prefer I wear t-shirts and jeans exclusively.

Still, I agree with Christopher: The dress is lovely unbelted. And I have those same shoes in black.

My husband doesn't think about fashion at all. As long as I'm happy with what I'm wearing he is happy. Very pretty dress today. You look perfect for summer.

little white dresses for the win! simplicity does beat complicated often. :)

The dress is lovely on you. I know a lot of me (both gay and straight) who are into style and completely get fashion. M is completely indifferent. He thinks I look nice in jeans and tee or a belted dress with heels.

i agree - my fiance doesn't really care honestly, he is more into function over fashion. however, i do agree unbelted is better!

Pretty and simple--and I love that you used the word verdant. :)

My husband will give opinions when asked or every now and then will say that he really likes something--usually something random and not carefully put together, of course. But he does hate makeup, so that's a plus!

I have a bad habit of equating 'fitted' with 'tight,' so I buy a lot of loose fitting clothing or buy one size up. My boyfriend thinks I'm crazy and always wants me to play up my curves. Sometimes I indulge him!

Haha, the boys at my school just put up with what I wore while the girls and my gay best friend complimented my outfits. I don't know if I want a guy that appreciates the effort I put into my style or just one that thinks I look good. lol. I like that dress!

From one compulsive belt-er to another, this looks great by itself! AND I'm looking forward to seeing it belted!

My husband is the same way. When I first started wearing belts on the *top* of my other clothes he would regularly congratulate me on "winning last night's title fight" and "reclaiming my weight division," and ask me how I liked pinning Hulk Hogan, etc. He's used to it now, and I think he even likes it, and I kind of miss the jokes! : ) But he'd certainly never say "I think that look needs a belt." Haha. : )

My boyfriend is simple too. When I ask him what I could wear, he says jeans and a t-shirt. No scarf, bracelets, or long necklaces.

My boyfriend tends to like anything I feel comfortable in, he can tell that I like it and then he compliments me on it too. He doesn't understand accessorising yet though!
I love this dress, its such a simple, classic and fresh look. Loving your remix. Wish I had the guts to do this.

love your dress! reminds me that I've got one thrifted white and simple dress I haven't even worn yet!!!

my boyfriend loves that I wear clothes most around here don't. He thinks simple is good but cute details are even better. I just asked him lol.

The guys in my life, (I'm just talking about my dad and brother to keep it simple) could really care less about fashion. :/ I wish they would. I really like this simple look. :) It looks really adorable.

You look fantastic! I think the dudes like it simple, too. Plus, as Josh constantly reminds me, "there's nothing hotter than a girl wearing white in the summer time."

Alex thinks I look great in a good pair of jeans and a black tee :) His sense of fashion is very poor, but we both agree my outfits are too simple. I don't wear acessories most of the time, I'm learning how to do it now, that I am a 20-year-old girl :)

This dress is beautiful and you are beautiful too (:

My boyfriend is the king of simple. If he had his way I'd only wear geometric prints in front of him. Any other pattern and he complains his little butt off that it makes his eyes hurt. If I wore jeans and a black or white t-shirt everyday I think he'd be infinitely happy.

Thankfully I don't listen and wear what I want. It's way more fun...

Looks great! I might borrow that look and add a pink scarf to it for a golf event I have tomorrow :)

Summer is for simple, I think, and this ensemble is pure loveliness.

Husband Mike is actually an accessory fiend. He'll often tell me I need a bigger necklace, or some bracelets to complete a look!

my husband likes it when i wear things that i love- and of course if it's figure flattering (and super cheap). the only thing that he's totally anti is zebra print, who hates zebra print?

I know for a fact that my husband prefers simplicity. He thinks I dress 'flashy' if that puts simplicity into perspective;)

I love the simple white dress look on you:)

Oh my boyfriend is definitely of the simple is better camp. He tells me how silly I am sometimes...boys.

Very pretty, I love this dress.

What can I say, I love belts. I love my waist. I love everyone's waist! But this dress already accentuates your waist, so it's a win-win. My guy likes simplicity for the most part, yet he always seems to get a kick out of it when I dress things up a little bit.

Ah yes, my husband is in the realm of "I don't care, but PLEASE don't over-do it, or I won't be seen with you in public." :) He likes simple, like me.

I also have a compulsive habit of belting!! I belt EVERYTHING. It's ridiculous. Cute look!

This is the epitome of summer fashion! It's simple and cool and fresh. I love a simple white dress for the summer.

My husband always says "It looks okay." I don't even think he pays attention when I ask him what he thinks!

My husband loves it when I wear a plain white tee and jeans. But he is sweet and always tells me I look cute in everything. :) I also love to belt everything, but sometimes it is nice to the let the item of clothing just speak for itself.

I love this. Your dress is so beautiful! My boy is a sweetie and always tells me I look pretty, no matter what I wear. (Yeah, he has to lie a lot to pull that off :D haha) ♥

I love this clean, refined look - it's very cool and classy and summertime. That dress fits you like a dream!

my bf definitely thinks simpler is better! i love this look! white in the summer is the best :)

My fiance is funny about that - he's opinionated about everything, and I'm also opinionated. But we generally agree about my fashion choices, be they bold or simple. He tends to keep his mouth shut in regards to what I put on, but he definitely is always willing to give his opinion if asked.

Your simple white dress is classy and chic. Love it!

I am bowing my head in sheer astonishment. Simple perfection.

The guy in my life, which is myself obviously, thinks: suit up!

I think this whole blogging thing has made Adam more into the details (last week I asked his opinion on belt or no belt, and he opted for the belt), but overall I also know he's still a "jeans and t-shirt" guy. I know he appreciates me dressing up for date nights, etc (and he does the same), but I'm about 99% sure he wishes jeans/tees made it onto the agenda a bit more often. The only admission I can recall is that he does find a lot of my colored/patterned tights to be too "busy"...which I can understand. I still question my bright yellow ones haha.

Love the white dress!

Jessie said...

No boys here! However, my (androgynous, genderqueer-identifying) girlfriend loves it when I dress for my curves, but doesn't seem to notice the details. What is nice, though, is that since she's spent her life fighting to wear what she feels confident in--clothes from the men's department--she understands completely how important it is for me to wear the stuff that makes me feel confident--heels, tights, high-waisted skirts.

Sometimes simplicity is really the way to go! You look fabulous. Love those red Dansko's!

The boy who has always been in my life (my dad) encourages me to try out new styles, and always somehow knows what's cool and new and trendy. He travels a lot and would came back from Europe raving about knee-high boots a good 2 years before they really became popular here.

A boy (my age) that used to be in my life really liked skirts would always compliment me when I wore one. He liked the way they move when you walk, since men's clothing doesn't really do that.

tastymoog said...

my man supports my crazy color and pattern wearing ways, but he also appreciates simplicity. he always finds me interesting statement accessories. being in the design field, i think he is more aware of what i wear and style in general than were past bfs.

Destrehan's Daughter said...

My husband is so tremendously a fashionista in his own right. He loves to buy new and interesting collared shirts and slacks and especially hats. I think he has like 15 hats. He even told me the other day that he thought he needed something new hatwise that would go with more blue stuff. He also collects sneakers like it's going out of style.

Sarah said...

My husband often likes outfits I think are blah, and encourages me to wear crazy prints and stuff I rarely wear.

That dress fits you perfectly!

Clare said...

Oh man, Joe is all about paring down. I think he gets exhausted just thinking about accessories!

This IS pretty perfect, though. I love the dress with those Dansko MJs!

I have no man in my life, so I don't have to listen to any fashion-related comments. Haha.

Love this look!

Camille said...

My husband loves a dress and heels over any other outfit hands down ! He always appreciates hair and makeup too. If I wear a new eye shadow colour, he notices ! But in some ways he also prefers simplicity. He's picky about pattern...solids are always good. He just really doesn't like "old grandma" prints haha :)
Sometimes I dress with him in mind. But it would be far too complicated to do that everyday lol.

Danielle said...

I don't exactly know what the boys in my life think of fashion... I definitely get teased for what I wear sometimes though...haha

myedit said...

Good question...I don't really think Matt cares too much. He sees that dressing like a crazy makes me happy, so he is wise to not interfere. It does feel nice when he just sees me for the first time in an outfit and gives an unsolicited compliment.
A compliment for you now... you look very pretty in the simple, white dress!

Sarah said...

Hmm that's a great question. I know that my little brothers definitely prefer simplicity, getting weird-ed out by any unusual accessories my sister and I wear.
My BF likes bright colors, but seems to appraise the overall shape, not tiny details. Although he does like belts that define my waist.
