The Good, the Bad, and the Broken

The Good, the Bad, and the Broken

Works Cited
dress: secondhand
belt: mommed
birkenstocks: sent from above
hat: target

In a comedy of errors on Friday, I tripped over Christopher's cat and knocked into his bicycle, breaking my left pinkie toe for the second time in a year. Luckily, I am really good at being self-pitying, so I rested most of the weekend with my foot up while I watched Arrested Development, read Iris Murdoch and yelled at the World Cup.

The Good, the Bad, and the Broken

As much as I'd like to spent the next two weeks lying around, the show must go on, and so here I am in my birkenstocks, the only comfortable shoe for a broken toe. That's the funny thing about style blogs--they are a reflection of real life, which sometimes steps in and smashes your toe bones and says "Ha! Good luck looking cute while you limp around and wear the same shoes for the next two weeks."

The Good, the Bad, and the Broken

So if you were wondering what looks good with birkenstock sandals, you will find out in the next few weeks! Wish me luck for speedy healing!

Too bad about your pinky toe, but the real travesty is being forced to wear Birks for 2 weeks.
And I adore that hat on you.

Your poor toe. I had the same issue a few weeks ago when I hurt my ankle.
On the bright side though, you look great. Wonderful dress!

A few years ago someone stood on my toe and although it didn't break, it swelled up to three times the size and I pretty much only had one pair of shoes to wear too!
But I love your dress/belt/hat combo. :)

Ouch!! I broke a couple of toes a few years ago and it's the most annoyingly painful thing. The shoe situation too! I'm sure you'll look fab with your Birkenstocks.

I bought a pair of Birkies last summer (same ones you have), and couldn't figure out how to wear them. Hopefully you'll inspire me.

No pressure. lol

Youch!

How does that feel riding a bike? Are you able to push on the pedals without massive pain?

Love the hat :)

What looks good with Birkenstock sandals?
EVERYTHING!

Oddly enough I've actually been working on a post for my blog called "Birkenstock Basics". It's basically just about my undying love for my Birks. Best footwear ever.

ouchie :( I am horrible with any kind of pain so if it was me I wouldn't even be walking on it.

I love that dress though and it looks perfect with the birks.

Holy cannoli woman! You have broken a toe twice in the past year?! That's incredible! And horrible, but still incredible!

The World Cup has been pretty fun, hasn't it? Full of ups and downs. What has been your favorite part?

CarolAnn said...

Good luck, and heal quickly!!

The outfit is lovely, despite the sad face in the first pic.

Love,

Ugh, what a drag! Thank goodness you didn't take a nastier spill and end up breaking something bigger.

I think those Birks will serve you well, and love them with this dress. I have no doubt you'll be completely stylish even with a single pair of shoes to wear!

Actually, I really love Birkies and stopped wearing mine as much when we started our blog because I also had this weird feeling about wearing birkenstocks on a style bog. It just seemed like such a faux pas. But I'm over that now and am looking forward to my Birkies waiting for me at home, and I was actually wanting to buy a pair really similar to yours before leaving Germany, but alas, it wasn't in my budget right now. You look great though, I love the sandals with that dress and look forward to seeing how else you rock them. And speedy recovery for your toe!

(Where the cat or bike harmed?)

you're pouting pic is too funny! Hope your toe is feeling better and heals quickly!

I had a similar toe breaking incident due to cat avoidance! One of my old cats appeared out of nowhere and I had to jump over her quickly so I didn't step on her, I landed funny (almost whacking my head on the front door!) and broke a pinkie toe and the one next to it. So I feel your pain. :/

Cute dress, though!

Oh, no! I hope your toe heals soon! By the way, what shoe size are you? Winter started today, I'm sure I can find some summer shoes at a very reasonable price. I'd love to give you a gift you can wear with your broken toe =).

you all are so sweet, i swear your good wishes have made the swelling go down.
S: i feel so similarly! perhaps the two of us together can make birkenstocks cool again? and no cats or bicycles were harmed in the breaking of my toe.
spoozy: glad you're back! mostly i yell for whoever is winning, that way i'm never disappointed.
miki: YES, please!!! email me! xoxo

Haha, you are funny, sorry to hear about the toe though. I broke my pinky this one time, I thought it would be a good idea to punch my brother even though he's twice my size and can punch back twice as hard, I tried to run away from him and ran into a door and broke my pinky toe, haha, this was when I was like 5 by the way, I don't still do this..

And the shoes don't look too bad with this outfit anyway.

caffeinerd said...

Oh no!! Here's hoping for a quick recovery (and more Arrested Development, always). I LOVE this dress, though. Looks excellent with the Birkenstocks. I still own some Birkenstock clogs...can't bear to part with them---SO COMFORTABLE.

Broken shoes make me sad too! But I love that pretty floral dress and your wonderful hat!
