In a comedy of errors on Friday, I tripped over Christopher's cat and knocked into his bicycle, breaking my left pinkie toe for the second time in a year. Luckily, I am really good at being self-pitying, so I rested most of the weekend with my foot up while I watched Arrested Development, read Iris Murdoch and yelled at the World Cup.
As much as I'd like to spent the next two weeks lying around, the show must go on, and so here I am in my birkenstocks, the only comfortable shoe for a broken toe. That's the funny thing about style blogs--they are a reflection of real life, which sometimes steps in and smashes your toe bones and says "Ha! Good luck looking cute while you limp around and wear the same shoes for the next two weeks."
So if you were wondering what looks good with birkenstock sandals, you will find out in the next few weeks! Wish me luck for speedy healing!

A few years ago someone stood on my toe and although it didn't break, it swelled up to three times the size and I pretty much only had one pair of shoes to wear too!

Ouch!! I broke a couple of toes a few years ago and it's the most annoyingly painful thing. The shoe situation too! I'm sure you'll look fab with your Birkenstocks.

my pinky toe is the only thing i've broken and i've broken it at least three times. it's the worst! good luck and i'm glad you found some shoes that work.

Actually, I really love Birkies and stopped wearing mine as much when we started our blog because I also had this weird feeling about wearing birkenstocks on a style bog. It just seemed like such a faux pas. But I'm over that now and am looking forward to my Birkies waiting for me at home, and I was actually wanting to buy a pair really similar to yours before leaving Germany, but alas, it wasn't in my budget right now. You look great though, I love the sandals with that dress and look forward to seeing how else you rock them. And speedy recovery for your toe!

I had a similar toe breaking incident due to cat avoidance! One of my old cats appeared out of nowhere and I had to jump over her quickly so I didn't step on her, I landed funny (almost whacking my head on the front door!) and broke a pinkie toe and the one next to it. So I feel your pain. :/

Haha, you are funny, sorry to hear about the toe though. I broke my pinky this one time, I thought it would be a good idea to punch my brother even though he's twice my size and can punch back twice as hard, I tried to run away from him and ran into a door and broke my pinky toe, haha, this was when I was like 5 by the way, I don't still do this..
And the shoes don't look too bad with this outfit anyway.
