Welcome to an unusually rare weekend post. I spent part of the afternoon biking around looking for new photo locations, which was inspired by two things: 1. it's gorgeous outside. 2. I have to write a lecture on Virginia Woolf which I'll give to 150 people on Monday, and I'd do just about anything to procrastinate writing it (I'm nervous about it!).

Weekend Wear

I love this skirt but still feel strange about how to wear this new denim trend without feeling like I'm back in grade school or the nineties, especially because the rest of my style usually isn't tough enough to balance out the sweetness of a chambray skirt.

How would you wear this?? Let me plagiarize please!

I love the fact that you posted this while avoiding writing a Woolf lecture, and I read it while avoiding writing a Woolf paper!

hmmmm... i think i would pair it with a sheerish grey tank (racerback, maybe?) when it's hot. for now, maybe a sweet little white short/capsleeve button up? and a cute belt (like yours). i think i would definitely play up the sweetness and then keep the shoes simple like sandals. idk... just rambling. i think it's cute and you wear it well!

good thoughts coming your way for your lecture!

I love this belt. I think you could play up the sweetness :). A little sweetness does a person good (a spoonful of sugar, etc.). I'm reading blogs procrastinating my paper on the suffrage movement. Haha.

I'd wear it with black. A black tank, black flats, and maybe a bright necklace. Good luck, don't be nervous!

I like the way you're wearing it. The outfit doesn't come across as super girly and seems to fit with your normal style. I'd probably wear it with a graphic tee and Converse. Good luck with your lecture, and I'm sure it will be amazing!

Adorable, I can't imagine this outfit being any cuter... the belt absolutely makes it and I love that you are brave enough to wear thrifted shoes.
Procastinate now- don't put it off!
Seriously, good luck on Monday. What will you wear for your presentation to 150 people? I can't wait to find out!

I know what you mean about the denim... I'm afraid to go 'back' to it. But I think that you did an excellent job of wearing it! The yellow sweater is a good color combo, and I think the way your belt and shoes match is great. :D Also, that is neat you are giving a lecture on Virginia Woolf! I love her... have you seen or read The Hours? It's one of my favorite movies... I actually got to have lunch with the author... okay now I'm just bragging! What is your lecture about? And what will you wear!?!??! lolz.

I love this look. The yellow cardigan is perfect, I want one that colour and I really love the skirt too.

This is adorable! I love that belt, too. If I lived a little close, be certain that I would come over to borrow it and accidentally never return it :)

I love how you wore this! Your belt is the perfect touch!

Good luck on your lecture tomorrow - I'm sure you'll be great!

Another great DYI! The belt is fantastic, and I love the colors of your outfit too. I think you did just fine with styling the skirt – the color palette is less basic so it makes it much more sophisticated than grade school / 90s. I do think it would also be cute with a striped top and fun scarf, for a different look.

You made that non stop adorableness yourself? Way to go! It's beautiful and you styled it so well. I guess if I was to "toughen" it up, I'd pair it with work boots or somewhat more rugged shoes, but I dig your outfit very much. Also, how great is mustard yellow on you. You really know to work these colors.
Oh, and good luck on Monday. You'll do fine. Is it an undergrad lecture or a research presentation? My first undergrad lecture (on the East Asian Financial Crisis) I was way overprepared (even though it was for 60 minutes) and I had to skip over a lot and rush. You will probably over prepare so have some strategies to make it end organically in case you run out of time

That belt! It's amazing!

I love the belt! I've given you an award over at O&A, take it if you fancy!

I love that anthro belt! I remember the first time I lectured to a large class (180 students), and how nervous I was before, but a couple of minutes in I hit my stride and the nerves were gone. As Rad said, it's easy to overprepare, but I know you will do great!

I've been craving chambray so much lately!

Good luck with your lecture! I adore Virginia Woolf, and I'm sure you'll be just splendid.

Good luck with the lecture on Monday! You'll do wonderfully.

This skirt looks great with the wide belt and navy shoes. I'd love to see it with a striped blouse as well.

Procrastination leads to inspiration. Or at least that's what I tell myself when I do it!

I was at the fabric store the other day looking through the denim for fabric to do another skirt, but I was afraid of how it would look. I can see that it looks awesome, so thanks!

I'd try it with a white v-neck and a colorful belt.

Surely you don´t need another comment on how to wear that skirt, but i am leaving one more nevertheless...change the grey shirt for a white tank top, and there you go :)

You look so cute! :D
And I have a skirt just like that! I typically wear it with either a long tunic or a button-up, then a cardigan, tights, and heels! :)
If I wanted to make it look less sweet, I'd probably wear my grungiest plaid "lumberjack" button-up and oxfords. Can't wait to see how else you style it! :)

Probably you'll want to dress it up with a top with some details. Even a button-down with a wide belt might add that bit of formality that you're looking for.

How nice is that? You're always pretty darling. I don't see any problem with your denim look, but that's me. You're always so classic ;) I am not a fashion expert so idk... anyway, you chose a nice place as background. I just miss your bike, because everytime I take a look at the pics it seems that something is missing and I can totally picture the bike :)

xoxox, and thanks for your sweet comment on my last post. I'm better now. Sometimes I just can't understand my feelings :P

I like the way your wore it. But then again, I'm not a fan of "toughening up" a look, so I really like the sweetness of it. Cute flats too!

futurelint said...

I love how you've styled it! I wouldn't worry about looking too '90s, the shape of the skirt is modern as opposed to the thick denim pencil-style skirts!

Elaine said...

Tania, I think you could totally pull off denim and denim with this skirt!! With a big chunky brown belt!

two thumbs way up for this adorable weekend outfit!

Love the mustard yellow and the wide belt.

I think this looks great--not too saccharine in any way. I'd probably wear it much the same way. Maybe sub the solid top for a striped one, but I'd do the same colors.
