To The Rodeo and Beyond

Thank you for all your sweet comments yesterday--they totally brightened my day! Since a few of you asked, the orange skirt yesterday was made of silk...or maybe polyester pretending to be silk. And yes, I totally copied this J. Crew skirt again, to great success (thanks, Elena!). I will put up a tutorial on how to do the covered elastic waist once finals week is over--but it's not hard and mostly I used Susan's pattern with a few alterations. I'm an inexperienced and generally lazy sewer, so I swear you can do it, too. Today I'm wearing the last of the three skirts I made the other weekend (see one and two).

To The Rodeo and Beyond

I'm feeling so-so about today's outfit even though I generally like the mix of chambray and flowers. I think the issue is this shirt looks great on the hanger but even though it's an XS, it is HUGE (Kendi, do you have the same issue?). If I don't wrap and tuck it in, I look like a mildly pregnant cowgirl. And surprisingly, this isn't as cute as it sounds.

I like this skirt, as well as the orange one from yesterday. I'm wearing a floral skirt that I made today too! I'm hoping to make another this weekend, and I like the covered waist idea.

Alright. You've convinced me. I'm going to buy a sewing machine when I've defended my dissertation. (If I buy it before my defense, I might not finish my revisions....)

The shirt is cute and doesn't look as bulky as you describe.

Awesome job on all the skirts! You've convinced me to try it! And I think that shirt looks cute crossed over like that!

I have a size XXL denim shirt from Savers that I wear the exact same way. You don't look prego at all!

I think it matches nice because of the blue & the red in the skirt too! I have that shirt being too big even tho its small when I shop in Old Navy. I need to buy some more floral skirts. They look pretty on like everyone!

First of all, the phrase "mildly pregnant" just made me literally laugh loud.

Second of all, would you, pretty please, come to my house and make skirts for me?

Yeah, Old Navy's sizing is insane... I love all the skirts you made! I have so much fabric laying around my house, perhaps I'll whip one up this weekend!

I do love the way you wrapped and tucked the shirt though. Even with a shirt that fits well I may have to try this.

I also love the way you wrap the shirt. This is my favorite skirt so far, because the pattern is so freaking cute! Love it. Very springy and on trend.

I laughed out loud at the last sentence, so funny. I actually like the way the wrapped shirt looks. It's so simple and different.

I love this look! The skirt and shirt pair really well together (I seriously need to make that skirt). I think you solved the problem of a too-large shirt quite well and creatively here.

I am pretty sure you´d be looking lovely being a pregnant cowgirl :)

Yes!!! Tutorial please! :) And you should try taking the shirt in. My problem is, I take too much in and it becomes too tight! :(

This skirt looks great, too! I'm so jealous you had three new, beautiful skirts from one weekend :) I need your work ethic. And the memory of how the heck to even set up a sewing machine...C'MON, 7TH/8TH GRADE HOME EC!

Pretty pretty earrings! They look great with your long hair. "Mildly pregnant cowgirl", I am still laughing at.

I just LOVE this combination! I always have that issue with ON shirts - they are always cut too big through the torso.

Um YES! I am a dummy and bought a medium so it's basically a dress on me. But my dear it looks absolutely adorable on you.
