Funny Face

Yesterday, Elaine at clothed much posted the most adorable photo of her making a face, which got me thinking about style bloggers' photo outtakes. I have to scrap SO MANY outfit pictures because I am accidentally making weird faces in them. A lot of the time it is because I am chatting with Christopher, and he catches me mid-word (whoops! maybe I should learn to be quiet for two minutes). Or I am squinting or fidgeting or laughing or rumpling my clothes. Sigh.

Funny Face

But I kind of love seeing all the life in these funny pictures. And they feel more real because I am not always looking serene and composed. If you ran into me in the street, I'd more likely be making one of these squinty funny faces.

Funny Face

P.S. I just re-found this dress in my closet. For some reason, I had filed it away in my mind as "wear to Sunday brunch dress," which is weird because not only do I never go to Sunday brunch, but why should I listen to this voice that tells me this dress is only good for one thing? So I rebelled and wore it to class (with a sweater, of course). Do you have this voice in your head, too, that tells you "Oh no, you can only wear those shoes with this dress" or "These pants are only teaching pants"?

Ha!! Tomorrow I plan on NOT looking "cool" and "composed" ;).

and yes...I've had too many voices like that. It's liberating to kick'em out and do whatever you want!! I think that dress looks amazing on you! And I"m glad you didn't save it for Sunday brunch because you should wear it all summer.

90% of my outfit pictures have stupid faces in them. A lot of times the pictures I post still have stupid faces, but they were the least stupid of the lot. I'm not good at knowing what expressions look the best!

I like these animated shots of you, too :-)
It's funny how we assign our clothes roles, real or made up. Your "Sunday Brunch Dress" made me laugh because I think we have all done this!
Very cute, contemplative post.

I really do have that voice in my head. I bought this dress from Target recently that is super cute, but I feel a bit like Olive Oil, from Popeye, when I wear it. I immediately filed it under, "wear to a fun party in San Francisco." When will I ever get back there?! I am thinking about wearing it tomorrow instead because we have a visiting speaker coming to my department who does the sociology of comic books. Kind of perfect, no?

Also, that dress is totally awesome, because it has mixed patterns and pockets! SUPER win!

love it, definitely prefer more natural pictures :)

I love this post! I may have to follow your lead on the face pictures soon :-)

BTW, I totally hear ya on the "Sunday brunch" thing. Only my fantasy scenario is either "shopping on the Plaza" (which I do what - once every two years?) or "attending Shakespeare in the Park" (ummm an annual event). So what do I expect myself to do? Take 5 outfits to Shakespeare and change in the port-a-potty every half hour?

Darn that voice. It speaks to me a lot and I have to get it out of my head by trying something completely out of the ordinary.

Dress = adorable. You could wear it anywhere for any reason.

Yes, you totally own this dress. And I covet your navy cardigan and the adorable khaki colored flats.
Whose awesome old skool Chevy?

I would wear this entire outfit...so gorgeous!

I make weird faces all the time during my photo shoots.

Yeah, weird faces are the best! Love the two patterns in the dress. Really pretty!

Ha. It's so true how many pics I have to filter through because of squinting!

You're dress is perfect for summer. I can definitely see the 'Sunday brunch' side of it, but I agree, that clothes shouldn't be put in a box/category.

Heehee, I love your funny face outtakes! I really should do a post on the photos that never made it to BLD.

That dress is beyond gorgeous, by the way. Seriously, so cute!

you rebel!!! Very sweet dress. Glad you stood up to your inner bossy-pants!

You are brave, I am very picky about my outtakes they usually don't even get uploaded!
Love that dress I think it could be dressed down so many ways.

Lo, I know what you mean about the funny faces inbetween pictures! My sister LOVES to take pictures of me when I'm talking and it frustrates me because all I want to do is have a quick conversation and she just keeps snapping away! :P Oh well...makes for good memories.

As for the the dress....it's adorable! When I purchase something I can definitely see it being for one occasion, but I don't limit myself to wear it ONLY when I'm doing something. I'm on too small of a budget to be censoring my clothes according to the occasion! :P

Love the dress, gorgeous!!!

Most of my funny face outakes end up being the best photo shots that I post. Since I am normally goofy and makes faces everyday I post them to stay true to me.

I absolutely love it when you find random things in your closet. This dress is so adorable...glad it made it's way out of the brunch dress pile.

That dress is such a wonderful combination of patterns!

I'm glad you found the dress and decided to wear it! I am definitely guilty of never wearing my "fancy clothes" and "fancy shoes".

Oooh, I love the bodice detail on that dress! You're making me think I need to start skinny-belting my cardis, too.

Haha, I have sooooo many outtakes on a daily basis. I figured out how to take 10 photos at a time on my self-timer and usually 8/10 of them are me being silly!

I think the dress is perfectly suitable for class and you don't need to file it away for specific occasions!

Definitely the best outfit i have seen here in a while...the dress is just killing me.
Nevermind the funny faces, i´ve got that all the time.

I love this dress! I, too, hear the voices in my head that tell me certain outfits can only be worn on certain occasions--I love that you shut that voice up and just straight up defied it. Nicely done!

Yeah I totally have that voice, which is why I STILL have clothes with tags on them! I should follow your suit...BTW - I absolutely ADORE that dress!

Breanne said...

Wow, so glad you pulled that dress from the closet depths. I really like the contrasting yet complementary patterns!

Cute cute cute.

I have that voice too, but I'm starting to try not to listen to it as much.

Your outtake is totally cute, as is your awesome dress! I've never seen a sundress like that before and I love the mix of fabrics (as well as the fact that you have a "wear to Sunday brunch" clothing file!)

I love the car you are in front of! Since I take my own photos in a rush in the morning, I always look at the ground, specifically because otherwise all I have is silly outtakes of me half-blinking. I love the dress - cardigans are the best for making strapless dresses work for day!

Oh, that dress is amazing!!!

Great photos, love your shoes!

Oh man, I've just started rebelling against that voice in my hair....mine tells me that half of my current wardrobe should only be worn when going out. I've decided they work just as well for class (as long as I'm still covered).

Love the shoes! Love the blog!
